i remember savin rock , but it was 1965 when i started hanging around the amusement park . i remember the rides the bump cars wild mouse etc. i remember the big fire also ... what sucks is unless you have some toys , prizes . old tickets theres nothing to show it ever existed not even a old post or even a concrete slab ... even donovan field or as i knew it the west haven speedway is all covered over ... i miss jimmys hotdogs the best ... just great memories , thank you ...a west havener now in california !
Its too bad that there are no videos of the rock in the early 60's. While not a whole bunch has changed, many of the rides going out over the water were destroyed in the 38 hurricane. At 2:46 that racecar ride was upgraded to much nicer cars when I was a kid. My cell phone sounds nothing like the phone on this video !! Thanks for sharing.
Bring back The Merry-Go-Round from the big house once owed by My Uncle Tony Giuliano aka "Mr. Savin Rock" !!! Uncle Tony would say , My nephew did you get promoted ?? I'd say Yes Uncle Tony -& show my report card ! He hugged me & and Always messed up my hair saying Good Boy Uncle Tony's Proud of you !! That meant the World to me !!! He would give My Dad a piece of paper say here Pat the kid goes on my rides as many times as he wants !! Great memories of My Uncle Tony I will take with me when I go beyond the Sun !!! God Bless u Uncle Tony !!! Nephew Bill
Great memories. I'd love it if someone did an aerial view overlay of then and now. That way we'd be able to pinpoint the locations of everything. It could either be in the form of drawings or photos, or in combination. Someone else has a UA-cam view montage showing place by place which is nice, however nothing but an overhead version can show everything in the perspective needed.
@@joewoodchuck3824 I am a senior at UNH in west haven and started going to savin rock to just walk and go to the beach. Never realized it had history until I found about it online. Its amazing how this area was like this in the past. Wish I couldve been apart of this time or at least the 60s, 70s, 80s hhaaha
This was filmed at the actual Savin Rock amusement park that doesn't exist anymore. And that's not a cell phone unless this had a time machine, it's a rotary phone if you know what that is! lol
does anyone remember the big fire at savin rock ? i think it was the big gazeebo that was on fire that spread ... i think it was very late 60s or very very early 70s , can anyone help with this ?? thanks
i think that was the end of savin rock then progress took over , captain thomas blvd condos and a shopping center ,,, they should have tried to preserve the rock but i guess it wasnt in west havens future to have a amusement park along the beach ... oh well sucks but reality .... bummer !
Used to go to Jimmies orPhyllis’s every Friday night for fried clams and hot dogs with my mom and dad.

@@chrisa7355 That was great. Thanks for the link. I have an incurable case of nostalgia which modern medicine has yet to conquer.

Did you video this at the Savin Rock Museum? Thanks for sharing it. People need to learn to shut off the ringers on their cell phones! LOL.
