    The Aventon Ramblas is Aventon's first e-bike with a mid-drive motor. This hardtail emtb is great for those wanting to get into mountain biking but don't want to break the bank on their first emtb.

    This is probably the best "action" video I've seen regarding ebikes. I enjoyed every minute of this exciting ride. I used to mountain bike before I got my first ebike in 2017. Currently I have an Aventon Level 2 and enjoy it a lot. The ONLY thing I wish is that ebikes didn't weigh so much. I'm a woman and had to rig my bike rack with my own handmade wooden plank to roll the bike up. It works fine but I'd love to be able to simply lift it up. Thx for the great video, Scott. I was riveted to the screen and kinda felt every bump.

    Scott, nice job on the channel - I enjoy your videos and your channel actually helped me in deciding my last e-bike purchase. Quick question - I see you have a medium sized frame for this test. How tall are you and how did you find the sizing/geo/standover height? I'm a short 5'7" with a short inseam, but from the specs on Aventon's site it looks like the M size will have enough standover for me. I want one!

    I looked through the comments and didn't see anyone else remark on your trail color designator. Typically Green trails are for beginners, Blue are intermediate, and Black are advanced. You can have double blacks as well, which are basically pro lines. This color system came over from the skiing world, which uses the same color codes to rate trail difficulties. I would say from the riding portion of your video that most of the trails were green with some blue-level jumps thrown in as options along the way. Thanks for the very in-depth look at the bike. Most channels rarely take such a deep dive. Cheers!

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  4 місяці тому

      Interesting about the recumbent trike. I can see maybe a trike in the future but I seldom see a recumbent trike. Not sure there is enough demand for Aventon to produce one of those.

    • @ericd.6368
      @ericd.6368 4 місяці тому +1

      @scotthardesty They are extremely popular with older riders who either have mobility issues or just aren't as steady as they used to be. A bike accident for an older person is often devastating. It could take you out of biking for months or even forever. I have an Aventure that I ride alone. When I ride with my wife I ride a Greenspeed Magnum recumbent trike because she has a recumbent trike. She basically rides slower than I do and will just randomly stop. It's hard to ride slow on a bike and the random stops are really annoying. She's just sitting there. I'm falling over. So buying the Magnum was cheaper than marriage counseling or a divorce.

    I haven't finished watching the entire video but the the 12:48 mark I'm noticing there are no trees to run into. I was so looking forward to Scott flying down a tree lined trail while I held my breath with anxiety. I would expect the trip would have ended ok since a video was posted, but I would still have anxiety until it was verified. I haven't even seen a drone that had the potential to run into some power lines and create chaos. Therefore, I'm not getting any anxiety on this CA trail so I'm just going to relax and enjoy the video without worrying about any potential stressful events that Scott might toss my way. BTW excellent video so far, but that's the standard I've come to expect from you now.
    edit: Oh so there was ONE tree on the trail and your head found it.. hehe Oh sorry, I was relaxing and all of sudden, a tree!, got me to sit up in my chair.

    Aventon does something very smart with this bike. They went for the hardtail instead of an overcomplicated fullsuspension, that wil be a problem for their service capabilities to maintain these bikes afterwards. This bike, for the US, is a no brainer. Nice components from the front to the back that are screaming - you will enjoy the ride. The motor looks a bit like the Shimano EP8. Maybe it's a rebranded custom version with a bit more Nm.

    • @scotthardesty

    We've been going down a similar path - I have an Aventon Aventure as well, and now I'm thinking of an actual E-MTB. The Ramblas looks like a great value choice for a hard tail, but I'm thinking I may want a full suspension bike, and I'm looking at the Giant Trance X Advanced E+ Elite 3 (which I think you have as well? On sale now and includes the extra battery pack). Since you've ridden both pretty extensively - what's your opinion? Giant worth the extra money?

    So much bike here. But Strange… had they added mounts for at least racks, and maybe fenders, it would be so much more versatile and they would likely have expanded their market for it. One mistake I see a like of eBikers make is that they use the assist to shift rather than the actual gears. But the assists torque works better at a certain RPM, just like when driving a manual transmission car. I bet you ould climb those steep climbs in Eco or Trail mode just by shifting into the easiest gear. But instead, people don't shift into an easier gear, they push the assist button to turbo and think that's enough to get them up the hill. But your RPMs are too low in a harder gear so the turbo assist isn't providing all the power you need. Again, it would be like trying to climb a hill in a car in 5th or 6th gear at 10 MPH....it isn't going to work very well.

    Scott, guess I need further explanation of the differences between the models, but I don't see what this bike does that an Aventure 2 won't do, and it costs over $600 more than my Aventure 2, before factoring in sales tax. Granted, the tires are different, and this bike is mid-drive while my Aventure 2 is rear hub. But I have a Class 3 capable bike with much faster top end. I could never go back to a bike that is limited to 20 mph. Off-roading/trail riding is not what I do, but I don't think I'd be afraid to use my ebike on those trails. And I have 5 pedal assist levels, not 3.
    Maybe you can educate me to what I'm missing. Although electrical engineering was never my forte, I lived in auto engineering for my career, so you can get technical in your explanation.

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  4 місяці тому +1

      I would never do the jumps with my Aventure 2 that I am and will be doing with this one. The front forks wouldn't be able to handle it. Basically, this bike is not a replacement for the Aventure 2. Instead, its a bike that will allow those who want to expand their limits on single track trails.

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  4 місяці тому

      @@rayrussell6258 Both. The fork is a better fork with more travel. The front end is much lighter, more gears, stronger motor, the mid drive keeps it balanced instead of all the weight on the back due to the hub motor. Taller rims make rolling over obstacles easier. There are a lot of differences when you really look at it.

      A couple more things Ray, to add to what Scott pointed out:
      - The geometry is very different from the Aventure, Ramblas has a more aggressive geo, made for descending/rolling down trails with more confidence
      - brakes are 4-piston and much more powerful
      - the bike is almost 30lbs lighter
      - the mid drive delivers power very differently, which is much more suited to off-roading than hub motors
      - 1x12 drivetrain with more suited climbing gears for 15%+ climbs
      - and much much more :)

    Your not talking about you would have held off getting your Giant if you knew this was coming out do you? Honestly mate your Trance is twice the bike this is! This is what you would call the commuter bike here in the UK i myself Use a Full Suspension 2024 cube stereo hoc 160 with fox 38 170mm upfront float X 160mm in rear 2.4 tyres 27.5in as 29ers are way to big i feel!
    I have more control with the 27.5 and science proves the smaller wheel is faster on roads always has been! Same with cars when you put bigger wheels on it, it will be slower and your speedometer will be off a couple mph! Your more likely to loose balance on road with the taller wheel alot like it alot hate it! Love hate thing!
    as you were saying about lockout i agree completely you don't want a full lockout on your Suspension for the roads! It just makes you loose even more control doing that! It's the lycra crew who do all this think they own the roads like taxi and bus drivers!

    The Aventon Ramblas is a very good value at $2700, but if you wanted to spurge just a little bit more, the Cannondale Moterra Neo 3 (a $6700 bike, on sale for $4500) is a much, much better bike for the money. Getting a full suspension e-bike with the Bosch Smart System motor; for under 5K, is an absolute deal for a higher-end e-bike. I mean I am never really in a situation where I NEED it just yet, but I have to imagine there has to be some sort of tech out there that allows an ebike battery to go from 0 to 100% in like 2 hours or less... 5 hours is fine for my commuter needs, but no one is going to say no to things charging faster.
