- Daily thousands of daily wage workers flock to Delhi’s labour chowks to find a means to make ends meet. According to these workers, the going rate for the day is between 500-600 rupees. But people are hardly getting work for even 10 days of the month.
Unemployment is one of the most pressing challenges of our country.According to the latest Annual Survey of Unincorporated Enterprises (ASUSE) for 2021-22 and 2022-23 released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), nearly half of Indian states and three union territories saw informal sector job losses over seven years. Demonotisation, GST, COVID shocks cost ₹11.3 lakh cr and 1.6 crore informal sector jobs for India. The number of workers employed in the informal sector in 2022-23 has dropped by 16.45 lakh or about 1.5 per cent to 10.96 crore compared to 11.13 crore in 2015-16. With the lack of employment, ration card, medical insurance or even the security of getting enough money to fill the rations, India's informal sector workers are moving back to the villages away from the city they once helped build. - Наука та технологія

There is no GDP growth. It is all inflation from RBI currency printing. RBI increased money supply by 50% since 2020, 250% since 2014, 25x from 2000, 2800x from 1960.
In 1950 Per capita income of India was 260 rupees. Gold was $35/ounce and USD/INR - 4.76. In Gold terms per capita income was 1.59 ounces.
In 2023 Per capita income of India is 2,07,029 rupees. Gold is $2400/ounce and USD/INR - 83.5. In Gold terms per capita income is 1.03 ounces.
Since Independence GDP per capita of India is down 36%. Let that sink in! An average Indian is 36% poorer in real terms after the Britishers left India! And according to Citigroup and many reports, Rupee is severely overvalued because of massive capital controls - an average Indian must pay 20% tax for foreign remittance, whereas Ambani can by $250k watched from Switzerland for his son's wedding without paying a single penny in tax.

For example if you have a private job paying you 15 lpa with very good perks at par with the government with free health care and stuff and an impressive work life balance would you have joined a government job?.

Isn't government providing free ration of 5 kg per head every month for BPL people ? If yes, why and how these people are in hunger ?
Yaah, unemployment is a think and till someone get formal employment the struggle with proverty continues. But isn't hunger a different thing ? If they're not getting benifits even in a welfare state. Then there is something really fishy going on.

In 1962 our population was around 40 crore and most of States witnessed Hunger deaths due to drought. We forgot this crisis after green revolution .The working population of India is less than 50% and we work for lesser hours copared to China and Japan average working hours at 12 hours.
In spite of having many episodes of drought and hunger deaths , we never learned that less population & less fertility rate will only help in crisis.
In order to feed the extra population we have over utilised underground water 88% of underground water be have lost from independence.
We should have introduced one child policy 40 years back or no child policy 20 years back now it's too late , nothing can help.
Everyone does not need a child . 90% of the children do not take care of their parents and that's the fact.
This is an Automation and Artificial intelligence era. We do not need humans. Millions of hunger deaths are invitable. We are again going to see severe food crisis people will turn into skeletons.. 80% of the population will suffer.
We never anticipate problems or learn from our mistakes untill everything is over.
Unemployment is just tip of ice berg, food crisis is what we have to be concerned about.
Overpopulation causes contaminated rivers, over population destroys forests, most of the government earnings have to be spent on feeding the poor nothing else no development. Overpopulation is mother of all problems and we are at least 5-6 times more than the resources and jobs.

Most of the poor have 3 children & their bank balance 5000. Poor people have more children because they get more freebies . Free food ration free schooling free hospitalization. They think these are forever but they are not.

For 1 Govt job at least 300 are competing.
For one decent private job, at least 100 are competing. If our population was around 10-20 crores, 95% of them would have jobs or settle through good running businesses even in automation and AI.

Are you taking tuitions? Are you working at a local store as a helping hand, at a local restaurant as a manager etc? Do you have any skills or talents like drawing, painting, music, sports which you can utilise to make some side income? While you are preparing for Govt. exam why can't you do in parallel to be self-reliant and make some earnings. At least to buy the exam forms with your own money. Is it so difficult?

As they stay there for so long, getting a ration card should be their priority. it will increase their food security at least with staples. My family income was not always that great and as we stay in a village, there is not much opportunity to work. We regularly received (now free earlier it was subsidized) rice, wheat, ( earlier Kerosine oil), sometimes chickpeas, and maida. The PDS system is one of the best things happened in India. The pandemic has destroyed many families and businesses.
In jammu and kashmir the departments' are facing acute deficiency, not even half of the posts are notified for recruitment. The "only 30 percent for open merit" has added insult to the injury.

Not gonna lie, but I've seen carpenters, plumbers making $150k a year in California. if u will I blame it on population density, which directly reduces the value of human labor-opposite to countries like the USA where there is more work available than people. Here, the number of people **far exceeds** the available jobs, which directly diminishes one's value.
And please don’t even bring up China-they have autocracy, for crying out loud, plus they are a heavily industrialized nation with manufacturing on a scale like no other.
All this, compounded by our typical risk-averse mindset, preference for maintaining the status quo, and cultural factors like dependence on parents for money even after 18. We also tend to undervalue crucial yet low-paying jobs like drivers and waiters, which are looked down upon in our society. For what it's worth, Nvidia owner Jensen Huang cleaned toilets early in his life, and Netflix owner Reed Hastings sold vacuum cleaners door to door. Would you find any student here, even from the lower class, trying such things to stand on their own feet?

About your second paragraph its a cultural reason. Indian middle class don't want their kids in blue collar jobs. I still remember back in 2017 i applied for a waiters job. When my dad knew he said i shamed my entire khaandan by even thinking of being a waiter.

With zero skills you cannot survive in the 21st century. Low level jobs in India will vanish. You can keep making documentaries. Nothing will happen. In fact people will start painting their own houses like in the western countries. Driving tuktuks, low skill painting , women not working - all these are out. The demand for unskilled labor is going to decrease and things are going to get worse. No skills=no jobs=no money. When people understand this, they will get out of the poverty trap.

I truly appreciate this look into the unemployment crisis. But a few questions on this report coming from a research-based organization like DTE:
What are the comparative stats, esp. at the labor-chowks? You present no data on how the situation was, say, in 2023, 2022 etc. Did painters still get work for approx 3 days out of 30? Was it a lot better? How much? Without such basic data you *cannot* make absolutist claims ki situation bahut kharab hai etc other than for views and pulling at heart-strings. Give us the complete picture. How was it in Noida in past years? In Govindpuri? Are there more workers seeking jobs? Or have jobs - of all kind - vanished? I have seen labor-chowks around the world - even in the US, where mostly immigrants sit around for jobs. Some are hired for the day, some not...
So, glad for the report and the brief statistics you quote almost in the passing but please do a more thorough job. We are moved and and are in empathy with the pain of those affected. But please put in fair amount of research effort before pushing your story out. These are people's lives you are prying into...

When social conditions are bad, birth rate increases (Somalia etc) . Birthrate falls automatically when development reaches common people. Not intuitive but true.

This is exactly why we need to do business with everyone. We aren't supplying defence equipment to Russia. You guys can afford to sanction Russia but we don't have the luxury to alienate people. We didn't sanction or stop trade with the Western block when they invaded Iraq, Afghanistan.
