    The Cults Limeworks and mine are situated in an angle of two public roads to the S of Cults Farm. The works consist of a series of concrete and brick buildings, kilns and stone crushing equipment extending over an area some 250m by 100m. Two gas-fired shaft kilns (dating from 1929) are now used as hoppers for crushed limestone and have not burned lime since 1968. The kilns can be seen in working condition on photographs taken in the late 1920s and 1960s. The works produced a variety of powdered limestone products, the bulk of which goes to be mixed with bitumen.

    I think with abandoned places for me it's just the fascination of history and the creations by man that are left behind.

    Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it. I decided to try some light play just for a change to the norm to see how it worked out. Personally I quite liked it.

    Nice footage, it is not easy filming in total darkness. What worked great for me filming these places was a flash diffuser (white cap) mounted with ducktape onto a maglite. That gave a nice evenly lit room. Thanks for uploading, i love your video's. Great job on the light.

    Nice to see our brothers in Scotland are also into exploring abandoned mines! This was a really nice video. I liked your filming techniques. In fact, I'm going to try to incorporate some of those techniques into my next abandoned mine video. What kind of flashlight are you using? It seemed very bright and powerful. Also, what video editing software do you use? Excellent video overall!

      Exploring Abandoned Mines and Unusual Places I found your channel and absolutely love it. I also got that "Mines are Dangerous" video in my recommendations and wow it quite upset me min! Absolutely abhorrent that they're wanting to close all this history off to the people and I also am concerned for any wildlife that would be affected by any sealing off or whatever. You're an inspiration and I will continue to enjoy your videos. Cheers. X.

    Yeah there is still quite a bit of old equipment down there, but there has been some rock falls recently so it is dangerous.

    The torches are LED, that sounds like it wasn't the best experience. Thankfully in Scotland there aren't too many earthquakes, or at least ones that aren't high up the Richter scale.

  • @AbandonedScotland

    Yeah some people were complaining of similar before, no idea what's going on. Other UA-cam channels were affected as well though.

    This one caught my attention because I'm a former cave explorer-and mines are very cavelike! We have some old gold mines here in Maryland (believe it or not!) that I would love to try entering and hopefully find good fortune! But most are closed off due to dangerous conditions and cave-ins (I hate that term-for obvious reasons)! Again a great presentation-I hope when I post vids of abandoned places I can do at least half as good as you do!

    I went to where it was on Google maps and all I could find was a drainpipe coming out of a concrete cover and when I threw stuff down it, it sounded like there was a deep hole underneath. Where exactly is the entrance?

    • @glochidiatus
      @glochidiatus 7 років тому

      Shaun Dobbie that's not the entrance, only two of the original eight are left, others have been recently blocked off. They are both not far from the big lime kiln, on other side of road from the kiln. Unless you know what you're doing I'd strongly advise you to stick to the routes marked with string, otherwise it can be tricky getting out again!

    • @ShaunDobbie
      @ShaunDobbie 7 років тому

      I have been in now through the entrance that has the huge bricks covering it. It was flooded further down and we could go no further.

    Thanks again for another amazing video. Just a question on this video. Did you find, the further you went into the mine, that there was a point where you couldn't go any further? Were parts of the mine properly intact or was it through damage/age/man-made degradation?

    Hey guys, I was up there just yesterday. Me and a friend went the exact same route as you but stopped at the half height shaft where the rock has 'Rescue checked, 21/3/95' on it. Did you find any other caves when you were out there? besides that one and the other entrance that leads into that one ?
