As a child of the 70's I had action men, and I didn't feel the compulsion to go out and destroy things or hurt people. I fact it made me more imaginative. As I remember, most of the time my guys were other things than soldiers. They were spies, stunt men, racing drivers. One particular guys had a badly scuffed up face from racing, as I used to drag a six wheel thing around on a piece of string and slide him around the corners. This sometimes ended in horrific rollovers, the medics would come and fix him up again and he'd be ready to go for another time. My point is just because the have camo and guns, it doesn't mean you have to play with them that way. It didn't influence me towards violence, and I just remember a fun childhood.

I must say, the stop motion work is very professional! I wonder how much influence things like this had on the toy developers at Hasbro, since it would be shortly after this that they were developing The Adventures of GI Joe. It does not seem to have had a close influence on the Palitoy group.

Heart braking, there's some incredibly rare G.I.Joe figures and outfits being destroyed in this movie.

Very well animated piece. But I think it takes a misguided leap into assuming a wider role for toys in kids lives. Action Man might have sewn an interest in the military for sure, but many who maybe went on to military careers would obviously have become peacekeepers honourably serving their countries and keeping the peace...not running around starting wars. If you had the Action Man footballer, did it destine the kid to be a footballer? Of course not. Great film...but says to me that woke isn't necessarily a recent concept. And if kids grow up to imitate their toys, we're truly screwed by the Call of Duty video generation 🤔😄
