Damn that talk about the book and "being present" is some of the best help I've ever heard, me and my brother (also an IT tech) both rides bikes to clear our head. Its spot on.
Love the talk on mental health. Multiple episodes back when you talked about how caffeine and indica were giving you anxiety attacks absolutely answered my problem. It was definitely the thing that was causing it and it's been so nice being passed it. You getting off weed and getting through the bullish withdrawal has it's been a huge inspiration too. Live your best life brother!
Totally agree about being in "the zone" when you're racing. When people would ask me what are some of my favorite things about race weekends, the first one was always that you focused on nothing else for the duration of the race other than the driving and strategy. Not work, not family, not issues in your life - nothing.
Fully agree with what Matt talks about being "in the now" as a past skydiver, motorcyclist and (not in the past couple of years) cycle racing, being fully focused on the activity is great for the mind. It makes you be alert and awake, and I find it invigorating.
Matt, I am one of many people who identify so much with what you are talking about re mental health and I am genuinely so appreciative. Many of the things you have said just in the past couple of weeks have helped me or got me thinking. I just started therapy this month and the, "you know just enough to hate yourself," hit so hard. I've always thought that I was smart enough to figure myself out, but all that got me was frustration and dissatisfaction with regard to my mental health. I don't know if therapy is the answer yet, but I'm willing to give it a shot because life is too short not to ask for help. Thanks again. Keep up the great work, and God bless.
Thank you for sharing about the value of being in the moment and the fact that some of us look for activities to make us focus on the now, it definitely made some things click for me. Also would you consider riding the Ducati supper-sport, despite the name it’s a monster frame with farings
Thank you for using your platform to breakdown the walls and create conversation about mens mental health. Just talking about it is fantastic, and even going into tips and books/resources your found helpful make it so much better.
Podcast great as always. Glad you are finding a better state of mental health. All power to you, keep up the content you're delivering, it's great and super interesting/fun.
Seiko Alpinist is roughly about a $1,000 mark now days.. and a bit more for the one that Matt brought up, as that was SARB017, a JDM example, made in Japan, which for some means better quality (arguable), but it wasn't imported into the US/NA. That said, its much more than a 1k experience and quality. Its a great looking watch that goes with anything and has better movement than most watches twice its price. Had it on my wrist for my wedding. Looked right with a suit.
With patreon, which i use; you can send in comments directly(DM) to smoking tire anytime you want to send a comment. You can also post questions to a video but it seems you need to wait till the video is released. In order to send in questions ahead, the smoking tire needs to create a post requesting question submissions prior to video day.
You can put a question on the post itself. The day before a livestream, we publish a post with a link to that video and that's where you can leave questions.
I'd say of all the podcasts I feel comfortable walking away from the screen this one is on the list. Matt normally does a pretty good job of explaining what they are looking at.
How does one get notifications for when live shows are happening? I only did a superchat once because the character limits are annoying but $3 a month to have a more exclusive discussion and get questions potentially answered seems like a deal assuming you ever get a question answered in a month.
When the Livestream is scheduled you will get an email from Patreon, notifying you about that post. You can then click the alarm bell and get notified by UA-cam.
What happened with the trees in your parents back garden that were cut down, earliest episode I remember you were talking about a gold track inlay or something turning it into a table. Sounded amazing and must have have missed the update on that. Thank you for the content thus far, you guys rule. Matt you're awesome and I trust your word as much or more than Clarkson. Zack the drag racing wagon on "big muscle" was fantastic and you helped make it hilarious, rock on.
Oooooh, ouch! Former Volvo tech here and have DD 3 different V70R's with 6MT. Stock, you're right. Just ok. However with some minor upgrades they can be very fun indeed. Look again.
Two questions about the new format @smokingtire - 1) I have YT Premium, so I already have no ads; if I were to do the lowest level patreon support, would that then put ads back in? Or would the YT Premium still be in effect there? 2) I know an RSS feed is small snippets of news articles, but I don't really know what an ad free RSS feed in terms of the smoking tire - is it just a curated list of episodes or like auto news like the drive and car bibles? I've never used RSS feeds so that one I don't really understand. Great show!
Patreon membership removes not just the UA-cam placed ads but ALSO THE ADS I READ! RSS feeds are how you subscribe to the audio version of the show. You get a show's RSS feed, and plug it into your podcast player of choice.
Only thing about the 400 Z is that it's not a "clean sheet" design. Yes the body panels are different but the chassis is still the same as the 370Z. So basically I expect it to handle like a 370 with suspension upgrades and a turbo kit. But do I expect a mind blower...not precisely.
You want to pay Zach more? I mean I don't know what all happens behind the scenes but, you had two fully built project cars (built by a shop) currently own a Lamborghini and a Ferrari, have a beach front house in Venice and have an automotive warehouse thats doing so well apparently you're opening a second location. Zach should have been paid more a long time ago.
It's none of anyone's business what Matt pays Zack. If Zack wasn't happy with what he's being paid he wouldn't be working for/with Matt. And Matt had a giant head start on everything he has because he comes from a rich family who shared their wealth with him (which he readily acknowledges).
@@mcspikesky Of course not . But if you have someone who was with you almost since the beginning, (and this is strictly my opinion) they should grow at at least almost the same rate as the founder and business. Also that money had to come from somewhere and I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was from the business. Again I don't know the specifics and won't claim too but speaking objectively, if your business generates enough income to purchase a Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. then I'm sure you can give your only other employee a raise.
@@desirelines9 It isn't anyones business. But, based off my personal experiences and the things I've seen, (both on the channel and being close to several business owners) I'm sure Zach could have been paid a lot more a long time ago. He gave an extremely poor reason as to why Zach couldn't be paid more. That being said, I'm not saying Matt does this but I've known and seen people do questionable things in order to retain as much money for themselves as possible. A woman had a million dollar business and was the sole employee. Did she have workers? Yes but they were contracted out as a way to avoid paying the cost of having employees. I've also known a guy who had a shop and bought a brand new Camaro Zl1, GMC 2500 dully and installed about 15k of custom rims on it, and did several other things. However, his employee that had been with him for several years had to dip into his savings to buy a 5k truck with 250k miles on. it. At the end of the day its your business and you can run it however you want. All I'm saying is good help is extremely hard to come by and if you have it then you should treat them accordingly especially if they've been with you for years.
@@16kingthe Yeah, unfortunately people become greedy after awhile. I've watched Matt content for about 15y and I see the shift in Matt mentality in recent years. Matt is completely wrong about Seiko vs Tissot. Tissot makes a better watch sub $1000, and their powermatic movement is better than all seiko equivalent movements. Tissot also doesn't have issues with chapter ring and bezel alignment that Seiko has. Seiko's former $300 watches are now being sold for $1000. They aren't any better. They're new $300 watches are formerly their $150 watches. Tissot/Hamilton/Mido do a better job. All this wasn't true a few years ago, but these companies have changed.

Thanks, Matt, for speaking out on men's mental health.
I'm not going to miss the super chat... "SHOULD I GET A 2020 FORD RAPTOR OR A 1992 CIVIC DX? NOT SURE"
Should I spend 60k on a Tacoma TRD, a VW Wesfalia or a Cayman R?
Should I put a cam in my Camaro or buy a E63 wagon?
Should I get a Tesla Model S Plaid.. or a 10 speed Schwinn?
I’m gonna miss the same answer every time too
Should I buy a Rolex Pepsi or a tacoma

More Matt wisdom like Minutes 28-29 plz, I like the non-car wisdom pieces. 👍🏼
The MC20 looks shockingly close to the Jaguar CX75.
lol, the exact watch(Seiko Presage) you showed is the gift I got for my groomsmen. I got myself a green one though to match my vest/tie.
I understand this is a pod/videocast, but I hope Patreon will allow for higher bitrate streaming, i.e. 1440p60 or even 4K60.
Patreon pulls the feed from UA-cam so the bitrate won't change. Switchercast is the bottle neck, as it's highest permitted res is 1080.
You did your bit for me, that's what I can do about this now.
Seriously Matt, thank you so much for speaking on the depression and anxiety Men face.

Yep! Cloudlifters.
