500 540 (or 1080 inj35t ) vs 480x big block. $ wise whether or not a motor/esc is needed, or just a good good motor if you already have a 480x for similar $. long time brush crawler user as that is all we had, so going to enjoy this series and the appreciate the effort/research.
Reedy speed controls make great winch controllers.

A righteous Reedy ramble. Given the episode name I was half expecting a J-turn at some point, but I digress. The twins are looking great! Very interesting to see the difference the ESCs make. For me, however, now that the Fusion is here I'll never use anything else. The cost difference is negligible, especially considering it as a percentage of the total cost of the rig. Looking forward to more twin goodness.
The Fusion SE is very likely impossible to beat for the money.
Doing my Reedy research, the SC400 is from the 1/12 scale Enduro RtR while the SC500 is for on-road go fast stuff.
So the 500 isn't even intended to be a crawler ESC, while the 400 is struggling because it's supposed to be running a 380 motor.
The sc400 came on the older enduros. I know I've got 3 of them that came with a 540 reedy crawler 5 slot

If we can get a brushed setup for 45 bucks, im getting that instead of fusions for now. Hopefully when they release the Injora ESC, they dont touch anything to make it worse than the one you have for testing
I don't know what is taking Injora so long with their ESC.
A really interesting comparison would be the Fusion Pro 2300 against the Spektrum Firma 2-in-1 2300. I have both and much prefer the Fusion Pro but others have said they prefer the Firma.
Yeah, but who is gonna buy a Spektrum Firma 2-in-1? It costs $10 more than a Fusion Pro, and has less programmable parameters-- 9 to the Fusion Pro's 13. Oh yeah, it also needs the Spektrum controller box, which is $29.99, compared to the $9.99 for a Hobbywing box. And we all know that Hobbywing made the Firma 2-in-1 anyway. This is similar to the pointlessness of the Redcat Fusion RTR-- less features, more expensive.
@@CrawlerCanyon Some prefer it but I don't understand why. The Fusion Pro blows it out of the water in my opinion. I ended up with a Firma 2300 from Amazon on sale 6 months ago for less than I usually get the Fusion Pro. I thought I would try one after a few people were raving about it. As soon as I tried it I regretted my purchase. It does not have the super low speed of the Fusion pro nor does it have the incredible modulation.
@@Doug_Morgan just me speculating-- but I think the Firma is the can and guts from an SE with the rotor from a Pro-- because the Firma is 40A (like the SEs) while the Pro is 60A. And I think the SEs work as well as they do because of lower kV. So Horizon figured out how to Horizon even the Fusion.
For quantifying drag brake hold, couod you run them up the ramp, let them roll back, then mark where they stop rolling back?
I will take this idea and run with it, pretending that it was mine all along. I'm glad I thought of this!! ;)

anything 55t or more is just painful honestly, can make things work with gearing maybe, but power output is just not there. 27t-35t in general is the better output range
It bothers me it's not clear which is the red and which is the blue when they're on the workbench without the bodies. Maybe if the body mounts were hit with some leftover paint or something. I guess I could just learn which doll is which, but...
You and me both, and I'm not kidding. The controllers are worse! I feel like I grab the wrong one half the time. I'll figure something out.
