Former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley on The Howard Stern Show on May 3, 2005. I taped this on a stand alone DVD recorder.

Ace had the best 78 solo album by far! He seems the only one who put his heart into it.
I agree but Peter also sang his ass off on his solo album. Here's how I rank their solos in terms of overall musicianship.

Ace is a very talented guy. I love KISS. And all the original members. Ace’s guitar solo on GOT TO CHOOSE on ALIVE still brings tears to my eyes, it’s so damn good. Most people miss that. You have to listen to the whole solo. To the very end of the solo. Amazing!! Unfortunately Ace has no self control at critical times. He got overwhelmed by his unfun obligations to the band. That’s unacceptable. In life as an adult you have to take the good with the bad. That goes for you to Peter. Oh well shiet happens.
That solo gets me every time too

Ace quit after hearing what Bob Ezrin did on The Elder. That Album was pure shit. Peter Quit because he suffered a bad car accident and couldn't be present for the recording of Dynasty. He also had a bad alcohol and coke addiction. His personal relationship was suffering as was his relationship with the band. in all the years that Kiss has been a band, Gene and Paul have only ever worked on two songs together for writing credits. I wonder how much better they would have been if they actually worked on more songs together. Paul hasn't wrote many songs since the 70's. Bob Ezrin put together Destroyer, and that was the worst album they put out until The Elder. The Elder was complete crap and Ace made up his mind to leave right after hearing it.
@@thebluesrockers Totally about Bob Ezrin and the Destroyer album. Bob Ezrin was totally clueless as to what KISS was all about. Bob’s cocaine addition didn’t help. As for the Elder. I’ve never bothered with that crap.
Love Ace, he's the best out of Kiss. Then Peter. Ace is still touring. Kiss didn't tear him down. Ace will always be back in The New York Groove. He's a great guitar player. He's a legend. I love Howard too.
When you bring the most influential band member of KISS as well as the most successful post band member, then talk incessantly about his “former band”, it’s plain and simple just bad manners. Kudos to Ace for handling it like a gentleman and kudos to his manager for Oscar Miking him outta there. You’ll always be my favorite ACE. Can’t wait to see you in a Charlotte NC!

I will be seeing him in Austin this year. I have seen Ace several times live and its always a good show. Set list is really good.
He asked Ace (guy who has done countless concerts and interviews, massive rock star) if he’s nervous, as if Stern is a bigger star than Ace F-cking Frehley. That’s like asking Johnny Depp if he’s nervous to meet Conan O’Brien.
Ace was just acting really reserved...I don't think he meant it as a slight..KISS and Ace are Great, but Howard was perhaps the most recognizable human in America for a couple years at his height
I think it’s clear that Ace doesn’t want to bash Paul or Gene in the hopes that he doesn’t burn any future bridges that may form. I think Peter Criss has burnt them all. Rebuilt them and then burnt them again in order to drive that final nail in the Kiss Kasket

Ooooh buddy you know Ace was trying so hard to hold back and not go off about them. I mean he has much more recently, and good for him.
Apparently, the manager wanted Ace out of there because Gorden Gebert who wrote "Kiss & Tell" a tell-all book on Ace, was on the phone waiting to speak to Ace live on the radio.
Ace was the core of the KISS sound. After Ace left it was never the same band again.

Howard was unprepared for the interview as he himself said at the beginning that he didn't know much about Ace. Bad start. Unacceptable under any circumstances. The least he could have done is to get some type of briefing about the man, the band, the current situation, and what the guest was told he'd be in the studio for - at least, that's how I would have done it, rather that waste everyone's time.
Howard is usually very prepared. It's uncharacteristic of him to be this blind about a guest.
Ace is a huge rockstar friends.
As long as he's gonna gets checks he's gonna get questions.
Work is work. If KISS had to open for Aerosmith, and Ace gets $50K per night + merchandise, damn right he should just play and cash his checks. And if anything, the downfall of KISS was due to Paul and Gene's many mistakes, so Ace should not have felt embarrassed about opening for a former opening act. And in all honesty, Ace's career in the 80s, while not as disastrous as Peter's, wasn't anything to brag about. At least he got called back to tour, while Peter was not. So, leave your ego at the door.
Ace was paid $50-60k per concert for the reunion tour, and $50k for the Psycho Circus and Farewell tours.
Over the span of five years he made almost $20 million. I don’t want to hear about how unfairly he was treated. Not when he made that much money, got to travel the world for free, and stay in luxury hotels in every city.

Plus he designed the Kiss logo so I would imagine that is why he gets a cut of every piece of merchandise sold.
He earned his $. He got paid that $ for what he contributed. Nothing was for free. Gene and Paul are businessmen pretending to be rockstars, Ace is a rockstar who knew nothing about how to be a businessman

The guy can't be much of a KISS fan if he doesn't realize that Paul is the heart and soul of KISS, and that Ace was just in it to be a rock star and party, and tour and record only when he felt like it.
The irony is that now every time Ace does a KISS appearance people just want to talk about Remedy.

Seriously, I loved KISS in the 70's, I accepted the ARMY thing, but when the money grubby started with action figures lunch boxes condoms coffin anything to make a buck it all started to be GI Joe, Barbie and KIDS TOYS...you know? KISS became a carnival act for children instead of a Rock Band. I blame Gene for narrow mindedness a tunnel focus $$...sad, glad I walked away with great memories of the 70's.

This, and before, is when the show was awesome. The edge was cool, man. Not that boring Ellen Degeneres shit he does now. His interviews were more conversational and absurd which is what made him different from every normal interview that asks boring questions.

I prefer peter and ace, they just wanted to be rock stars and enjoy the fame and money and have fun with it... Paul and gene always took it way too serious, to them it wasn't a passion, it was a job.
