very cool. 2.1DJ is the best vw engine, it’s in my van. I had coolant leaks so took everything off the engine, put new heads on, resprayed all the rusty engine bits, new stainless coolant pipes, new stainless exhaust, new fuel lines, now it runs great. oh and we call it a T25 here :D Good luck with this van guys!
After my 1st Vanagon (1985 Westy) caught fire (bad fuel line?) and burned totally up. Then my 2nd Vanagon (owned for 16 years and did every mechanical repair possible except the A/C (don't need A.C in San Francisco) and the heater -which still worked fine. It was stolen a month ago. Still not recovered. I am shopping for my 3rd Vanagon- found a nice Wolfsburg in WA- will fly up and drive back to S,F. Bay area.---if my insurance company quits stalling on the settlement so I could buy it. Love the guys- Love their Vanagon passion. Definitely a cult vehicle-I can't shake. ely .
As I said before, Dan is married to a good woman who has let him purchase another classic VW. Looks like Dan will be putting in a lot of time getting that back on the road. I learned a bit from watching this video, i.e., how to open beer bottles, among other things.
...no more engine rebuild, NO distributor, NO reciprocating push rod n housing pipes- swap/transplant with a Suby engine+tranny and U will b happy. These buses go for Gold. VW was short sighted to discontinue production of this vehicle. I communicated with the VW engineering division-back then- to use a 3 ltr engine with an auto tranny for the US Market, n they told me that they cater to the demand of the world Market! thus, NO more Vanagons!
You suggest swapping a Subaru engine and trans- how to you do that on an AWD bus and what would your estimate to do so be, including labor, at a $140/hr local labor rate? I think your suggestion costs more then the purchase price of the car……
@@TheBarefootForge ...my friend, U dont go to a garage to do dis job at 140$/hr!, U do it yourself, or U mucho$$ buy it. It takes a very particular person to do dis undertaking, given the vehicle choice we have now. Dis also can b a good accomplishment for a mechanic's resume. I can do this transplant, but I prefer to b on top of the car now, than under it. Remember, that the Subies, R 4/all wheel drive. I enjoy 2 older ones.
Lol. Awesome. Sweet ride. Needs some work but so does mine. Hope some of the parts shortages clear up soon....thank you for the content always a pleasant surprise. When you doing an update on the blue bomber...it runs and drives?!!!
Oh ya, it'll be my adventure rig this summer! I put 800 miles total on it last fall before tucking it away. Still a few things left to finish, and a lot of content to keep posting- so hopefully more on that story soon! Be sure to comment, the engagement motivates me! : )
Did not know that RHD synchro dokas were imported to Canada, especially the splitted middle windows are damn rare. Rust is a big problem, the best is to drive this car in summer only.
I would say hope you did not Crush it , because it is rare " Rare" means " rare you will never find another one !! Once you Crush it , it is Gone for everrr !!!!

Heck ya- it’s a peppy power plant, comparatively.
Love the T25 Crew Cab. All the best from Jersey, the other Channel Island😊
Heck ya! Have you seen the latest videos where I bought a doka, and we’ve been fixing it up for wild adventures? You’ll like those!

Sorry to hear that! I hope the insurance company makes it right and you’re able to source a good replacement!
Atleast the visco is doing its job:)
Exactly! It does syncro things!
Great find…she needs some love…the only kinda difficult metal problem is the roof….
Ya, that's a tough piece of metal to source in North America! Hopefully we're going to find a donor, we have a few leads.
I’ve heard that you could put in a Westy rear bench seat and put in Westy seats in there.
Nice work guys. Would you mind posting a link for the license plate LEDs?

It's coming along! We're hoping to have it semi reliably back on the road in a week or so.
I just found this video. What's the status of the Doka?
It’s still around, not much has changed but Dan has been hard at working solving some running issues.
you might be able to fine a 1990 1991 base model seat for the seat bottom fabric for the drivers side.
you might check the headlights as there are left and right hand drive specific lenses, the rivets are for bed slats not a full bead covering.
the blead rail around the top is truck specific.
Is that the same!?! It might be!
@@alexanderdenette5101 Ya we saw the significant jog in it. Are these available?
@@alexanderdenette5101 yep- not sure where all that bed slatting went, but its LONG gone!
ship that T3 Tristar to UK if you don't really really really want it.
coz I really really really do want it

Watched it again today. Why does it seem to have a "sub-floor" under the pick-up deck, as I was viewing the engine compartment?
The bed is raised up from the base floor found in the Type 2 T3 platform.
what is the going price these days for one of these RHD Tristars?
There aren't "going prices" for vehicles this rare, but likely $30-50K

Now that is rare
Only one like it in his neighborhood! (For now)

Super rare!
The Stussy sticker, LOL
Super cool! Where on earth would you get a south african grille? He mentioned it so casually 🤣
These things just magically come up sometimes- I think he got a crazy deal on that.
Uk modell
yep!
Horrible shape? Looks pretty good to me. Why's it called a Doka?
Doka meaning Double-cab. A Sinka is a single cab.
What happened to this? Would Dan sell it?
feel free to email me, and I'll forward it along to dan. Craig@Thebarefootforge.com
He might?
Awsome
Heck ya!

Ehh, but it’s all rusty and broken.
"......he's going for SPEED!"
Heck ya! It’s bold to take it on the road at all at this point! Lol
I want it
Perhaps it’s available. Send me an email and I’ll put you in touch with its steward.
Sell this to me 😂 I’m in the uk so rhd isn’t an issue here
Dan would probably sell this, but he's really worked hard and invested in it, it's quite pricy now.
😅 a long way back to road…
I mean, it did drive home.... : )
Really enjoyed this. You guys might find this useful, in terms of the cab area. Some inspiration! ua-cam.com/video/IaqM8zUl04o/v-deo.html
NO,NO,NO,NO....
I men, I think we should....
