I’m blown away by the boldness of this choice. Olivia is an amazing talent, but here she’s shown great commitment to honoring songwriting and exposing a new audience to past genius.
I can't even believe I'm listening to something this devine. She sings from her soul. The orchestra is perfect. How did she even do this, choose this song, pull this off. Beautifully done.
This is the record I'd broadcast across the universe to explain what humanity is. Great, beyond words. Please, we need this on vynil, or at least Spotify
So nice I’m 38 and my mum as passed but it’s this song and others by Leonard so long maryanne that take me back to being young and innocent take me back please beautiful cover well done was excited and shocked when I heard you say your covering this only a few know this song I thought ❤
Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river You can hear the boats go by, you can spend the night beside her And you know that she's half-crazy but that's why you want to be there And she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China And just when you mean to tell her that you have no love to give her Then she gets you on her wavelength And she lets the river answer that you've always been her lover And you want to travel with her, and you want to travel blind And then you know that she will trust you For you've touched her perfect body with your mind And Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water And he spent a long time watching from his lonely wooden tower And when he knew for certain only drowning men could see him He said all men will be sailors then until the sea shall free them But he himself was broken, long before the sky would open Forsaken, almost human, he sank beneath your wisdom like a stone And you want to travel with him, and you want to travel blind And then you think maybe you'll trust him For he's touched your perfect body with his mind Now, Suzanne takes your hand and she leads you to the river She's wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counters And the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbor And she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers There are heroes in the seaweed, there are children in the morning They are leaning out for love and they will lean that way forever While Suzanne holds the mirror And you want to travel with her, and you want to travel blind And then you know that you can trust her For she's touched your perfect body with her mind
When Nina Simone deconstructed this song, some voices said that she deserved the Nobel Prize for such audacity or daring thing. Olivia's version has knocked me out and I must confess that I'm still recovering myself for such audacity too! She has demonstrated again, the great talented young singer that she is. No debates here. What I've learned more from these two so brilliant singers is that, the sacred spark that lies within each of us is not owned or controlled by anyone else. It is not confined by someone else's definition. It does not ask for permission to create and make things better. Sonic diamonds are forever!
Amazing track indeed, how l love the third generation enjoying grand parents most beloved songs, yeah, it's a very special emotion indeed, a generational legacy and a nice spiritual heritage, great performance congrats, let's dedicate it right away His Majesty King Charles, please be our partizan hero and resist, fighting back the cancer threat, the psychological strength is crucial😢😢😢😢
Beautifully done, especially, also, the orchestration. I was surprised by the change of lyrics in the second refrain, but felt it kind of works, if intended. However, the repetition of those altered lyrics doesn't work in the third refrain; the preceding verse is talking about Suzanne, a woman, and Olivia repeats a refrain talking about a man (Jesus). ... Honoring the great poet / lyricist Leonard Cohen deserves attention to such details. But maybe it was a case of nerves.

Lyrically it all goes horribly wrong at 2:51 leaving her to mumble the closing line of the verse. Such a shame. This song demands and deserves lyrical perfection.

Are you coming to see me John thomas😅

There are covers and there are covers - that was sublime.

Blow it away? I love it too, but she lets it lead her "to the river"( my pun) not showing off as most would. I share your appreciation.

Then she gets you on her wavelength

And he spent a long time watching from his lonely wooden tower

She's wearing rags and feathers from Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbor
And she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed, there are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love and they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her, and you want to travel blind
And then you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind
Just one word. Perfection

Completely disagree, she doesn’t mumble the closing line at all!
1 of my favourite Leonard Cohen songs.. Don't like this cover. Sorry I'm a traditionalist.
Try listening to Roberta Flack’s sublime rendition of this song…
@@pathenews Heard it..Can't beat the Original version. IMO
beautifull
Incredible
Astonishing ❤
