How To Go To NAMM

Have you always wanted to go to NAMM, or wondered what NAMM was like? Well, I went to NAMM 2020 and it was awesome! If you don't know NAMM stands for the National Association of Music Merchants, and its basically a giant trade show where pretty much every music manufacturer, distributor and a ton of musicians and content creators go. Think of NAMM like a giant music gear party and everyone brings their newest upcoming gear.
In this video I want to share what my experience was, how I went, how you can go, what it's like, and how you could prepare to go.
How do you go to NAMM? - You have to be in the music industry in some way. If you make music gear, hardware or software, or if you own an online or physical music store you can go. If you are in media, either a music magazine, blog, or have your own UA-cam channel you can go. If you're sponsored by a company that attends, they can also get you tickets.
What do you do at NAMM? - One of the most exciting aspects of NAMM is seeing the new gear that companies have coming out, and in many cases getting to try it out. Another awesome aspect is the many classes offered throughout the day. Next is of course the networking and social aspect, interacting with thousands of other people that also share your passion for music and gear.

Wow! Thanks a lot for this information. I really thought that I could go as an everyday consumer to purchase gear for my studio. This changes everything for me. I just make or help others create music. I'm neither of the 3 mentioned to go.

Yeah it’s mainly a place for music product creators, or music merchants, to go and sell their products to distributors. Everyone else there is either someone from the press/influencer side, a famous person in the music industry, or an expert doing a seminar.
You actually can’t typically buy anything there.

Normal people are forbidden from going to NAMM. If you wanna go to NAMM, you must be one of the following: you must be a professional musician, a manufacturer, or a media personality. If you’re not one of those people, don’t even bother knocking on the door. I found that out the hard way when I asked if anyone was allowed to go to NAMM, and the channel I asked the question to said no. So I gave up on the idea and dream of ever going to a place like this.

I mean I thought the same thing years ago. However I was able to qualify for two different categories when I went. 1. because of my UA-cam channel and my online blogs and stuff. 2. because I have a music software company thats registered as a NAMM member.
Additionally a LOT of people go because the work for a company that has extra passes, or they have friends with extra passes, or are sponsored by a company that is attending. Once you work in the industry for a bit you'll quickly realize you have dozens of contacts that could get you a pass to go.
