  • Old-growth forests could be the key to slowing climate change- but they're quickly disappearing. I went to Oregon to learn about these forests and see one up close.

Proud yet humbled, Oregonian, here… Thank you for making this film, Aidin. This topic has been a struggle many of us Oregonian’s have fought to uphold as stewards of such majestic and vital lands. A struggle as new, annual, “100yr” wildfires and local timber companies wanting and “needing” more and more… Often left feeling the harder we hold on, the more escapes our grasp, like fists of sand. Thank you! Thank you for the reminder of why we must continue to fight for such ecosystems. Thank you for sharing so more may witness. 🙏🏼

I grew up playing with my cousins in the little backyard forest that my grandparents planted decades ago with their children. It's just this indescribable feeling of connection with the earth and this peacefulness within yourself while your there, so I'm glad that a content creator, that makes content that I care about addresses this problem. Overall like always amazing Imagery and thoughts we should care about, thank you.

This is such an important message! I was recently at Lady Bird Johnson Grove at Redwood National Park, and it's incredible when you get to see these untouched old growth forests. So many of the Redwood forests have large stumps and tall skinny trees from the Gold Rush era and beyond. I'm grateful for the movement to save these forests (and others), and you're absolutely right- we HAVE to vote for people who will make those moves, or we will just end up killing ourselves off. Your film making skills are awesome- thank you for using them to share such a crucial perspective!

I haven't read anything recently about this topic, but I do know there is a struggle and zeal to protect Old Growth Forests in British Columbia from the logging industry. I strongly support this! The BC government is not doing enough to protect these irreplaceable trees... and the benefit to the environment that they provide. Your doc has really put into perspective to me how valuable these trees are to the world everywhere they are situated! I do hope we'll come to our senses and stop massive clearcutting, and implement sustainable logging in combination with protecting our forests. Great doc!

I feeel somewhat happy to live in Norway after watching this... Here you can drive for miles and miles, through mountains and forests. Some of them are truly old. There has never been enough people here to destroy the landscape and woodlands completely. I enjoy beeing able to drive just 20 minutes from my home, and experience dead silence in the middle of the woods. At night, you can actually see the stars and the northern lights, as there's no light pollution.
I've also traveled alot throughout Europe... It's not the same story down there. Some places do have forests, but the trees are so young and planted in litteral lines. Other than that, it's all farmland, cities or parks. Yoy never feel like you're in the true wilderness.
I have been lucky enough to also experience the redwood forests in the US. It litterally changed me forever. It's not just an experience - it should be mandatory to visi for everyone. Simply to understand the importance of nature.

I'm so late, but how on earth can you say "somewhat happy" about living in Norway??!! It has got to be the most beautiful country in the WORLD. I have traveled a lot, and I watch a LOT of travel videos, Norway is my exact dream location. The only downside is that your beach is freezing lol, but it looks like Caribbean beaches with GIANT mountains and forests! Can we trade places?!

Incredible work, Aidin! This is probably the most motivating and mobilizing video you've put out so far, and overall, each masterpiece you churn out presents more arguments for natural conservation and protection. I wish so badly that the Southeast would have more of these protections in place, and I hate that there is so little reconciliation between natural beauty and economic concerns. Thank you for everything!

Aiden, love the style of your videos. I've watched most of them now. It's great how you weave the story into your exploration of these forests. I think that makes your points hit harder. You're right, these spots are pretty magical. You might consider wearing a mic (Rode makes a nice clip one I use for recording my lectures), your voice sounds just a bit muffled in parts but overall sounds good.

As an Oregonian, these forests are something else, i mountain bike and snowboard often and these places are insane to go through.
We have a restaurant near a place called Seaside(cool place with a decent beach) but the thing supporting the spine of the roof of the massive restaurant was a long Douglas Fir that was just so massive but you forget it’s there often.
It also sucks seeing these forests disappear slowly, especially near Portland with big clearcuts. But they also stress that they plant 2-3 tress per tree cut so I guess that’s nice to know.
Thank you for reminding me that I need to go on a hike somewhere here in Oregon, been meaning to since spring is here.
Hi, me again after another year of living here. I just gotta say that I've been hiking like crazy, and on top of it been getting into photography because of it; it's become such a big part of my life that I've started bringing friends along who have lived here their entire life but have never hiked before to see the beautiful trails and stuff. I even took out my best friend who has never been to the northwest before on a waterfall hike, I saw it change the guys life as he had never seen anything like it because he's never left the south(dudes from Texas). Also because of you I've gotten really into photography, I try to go out and photograph a trail like once or twice a month that's near me which isn't hard given the area that I live in. I've even traveled to different area's now because of your videos, like I even traveled to Japan to take photographs of the country. Thank you for making these videos as they are really informative and inspiring to young people like me who often take the landscapes around us for granted.
