As a former Waitress you do not charge extra for fast service! As a waitress you should always serve all your guest with fast service. That is totally unacceptable!

I am a former waitress at an all you can eat seafood restaurant. We always upheld our end off the deal. All you can eat with fast service! That's how I made the big bucks by delivering in a speedy manner. Now the kitchen staff was a different matter! We waitresses were fighting over reorders in the kitchen to please the customer. They could have just made more. Simple logic. I worked at Chesapeake Bay Seafood House. It eventually went broke lol.

As a Mexican national, I'm embarrassed that this happened to you here. It's as if she tried to get an extra tip from you in this very sketchy manner. I hate to say it, but it happens more than you think; a lot of vendors down here see a foreigner and think: "This gringo is not going to even do the math on how much I'm charging, because, even if I charge double, for them it's cents on the dollar".
And this is the reason I have never had a vacation south of the border. I refuse to visit a place where it is a common practice for them to try to cheat people who are visitors to their country. I'll just stay away and let them cheat someone else.
When I go to Mexico I always say to myself and my friends . “How much am I gonna get ripped off this time?” And I know as a gringo I always will . If they had that in writing they would have been justified in all they did but all I saw was bad customer service towards a patron that could possibly bring them a lot more business. Joel, didn't you get cut off in Mexico too? Years ago in Mexico, a group of 5 (3 from UK and 2 from Germany) ordered food and the waiters kept bringing out extras on top of the food we'd ordered. Long story short, we got charged for these extras we didn't order. If you rip tourists off, we remember and it tarnishes the reputation of the country.

I’m not sure his goal is to simply stretch him stomach without some style of victory. Watching your videos makes me think you clearly love food. You say everytime how good the food is (I find it hard to believe, maybe you are just being nice) I took your word for Hoggys in Columbus Ohio and it was absolutely delicious. I even told them that you brought me there!!!
I'm happy to announce at sizzler I tried all you could eat fish n chips and I didn't get thrown out. I ate 16 orders of 2pc fish lol I'm not a competitive eater I just love cod.
All-you-can-eat buffets are not meant for competition eaters that are making UA-cam videos while attempting to stuff themselves to the absolute max like wild hogs. Restaurants need to make money, otherwise, they'll eventually go out of business & have to close. Could you imagine if you owned a restaurant & a whole table of competition eaters sat down to stuff themselves like savage animals??? Or, if competition eaters showed up on a weekly basis to gorge on dozens of pounds of food? You would soon have to put an end to your own buffet. Some of these power eaters can take down over 15 lbs of food in one sitting, & that's all money out of your pocket. I love watching people like Joel, Randy Santel, Katina, Molly, etc, but you have to draw a line in the sand in certain situations, & this would definitely be one of them. To their credit, they actually never stopped him from eating, even though he was probably eating some sort of cheap mixture of beef & soy, & quite possibly also some dog, cat, & rodents all ground up into the mix.
I've visited Playa Del Carmen many times over the last 15 years(with the exception of 2020 & 2021). Catering to the young gringos is why it's so popular! I was trying to figure out where this small restaurant was located. The best I can guess is that's on or near 10th Ave in Centro. In December 2021 the MXN was trading at about 20 to the US$. Joel, the bottom line is that the waitress & management padded the bill because they saw you as an 'easy mark'! Nothing personal, just a way some restaurants & bars work all over the world! The reason why the hamburger tasted differently than North America is that many Mexican packing houses add a bit spicy pork to the beef patties! Oh, by the way Joel Mexico is in North America. The best experience to enjoy a true Mexican style hamburger is the food carts selling Tortas in many variations.

Best Burgers anywhere in Mexico is at Juanito’s in Manzanillo, Colima They’re only $2/ea so bring at least a Hundo ($100)...your palate will change after that experience. Also wash it back with some Limonada for a cool refreshing drank
Yeah, that’s not cool to charge for “fast service.” There are restaurants in The Bahamas that charge a 15% gratuity, but they at least put it in the menu so you’re not surprised when your bill comes. If I were you, I would never go back there. And you rock! Keep up the great work!
I have been working as a bartender/server most of my life. We make our by tips so if you're not giving fast friendly service your not making money! You don't a guest for that, it's implied in the hospitality industry. And I'm pretty sure most know that!

They didn’t physically complain on video but there was some complaint going on when the waitress brought out the bill deciding to charge Joel more than what was agreed on for the “all you can eat” deal. That was BS on the restaurant part and waitress.
Looks like a tourist trap. This is common in Playa del Carmen/Quintana Roo (at least it was like that both times I vacationed there). I took a few 5-10 minute taxi rides away from the resorts and found amazing local food with better prices and fresh margaritas. Worth the effort.

Is the conversion rate strange? When I put into google 553 mexican pesos, it shows around 27 bucks. His receipt shows 42? Receipt says 12/2021 so they rates couldn't have changed that much in so little time?
@@yogizorch But the Russian oil sanctions only started like a month ago. That's when the gasoline prices skyrocketed. The receipt shows this was December of last year in 2021.
I have never heard of extra charge for fast service. However you are in Mexico and businesses down there counts on you not focusing on your bill. They know you are Americano (foreigner).
Once again I find myself putting my life on hold watching you eat a mess of burgers. Charging Burgers for fast service makes no sense. She could have requested a "tip".
Even charging him twice for the buffet would have made more sense (only barely) and would have been cheaper than tacking on what she added, more than doubling the bill.
Joel, How much did you end up paying? Because the bill shows $42 (553 pesos) , but that’s way off on the conversion which is about 19 pesos to 1 dollar. It should have been about $29 dollars before they removed the extra charges.

Years ago in Mexico, a group of 5 (3 from UK and 2 from Germany) ordered food and the waiters kept bringing out extras on top of the food we'd ordered. Long story short, we got charged for these extras we didn't order.
If you rip tourists off, we remember and it tarnishes the reputation of the country.
The country? Lol, grow up, it could very well just be the restaurant and that restaurants staff or owners acting shitty and not the whole country.

I'm happy to announce at sizzler I tried all you could eat fish n chips and I didn't get thrown out. I ate 16 orders of 2pc fish lol I'm not a competitive eater I just love cod.
All-you-can-eat buffets are not meant for competition eaters that are making UA-cam videos while attempting to stuff themselves to the absolute max like wild hogs. Restaurants need to make money, otherwise, they'll eventually go out of business & have to close. Could you imagine if you owned a restaurant & a whole table of competition eaters sat down to stuff themselves like savage animals??? Or, if competition eaters showed up on a weekly basis to gorge on dozens of pounds of food? You would soon have to put an end to your own buffet. Some of these power eaters can take down over 15 lbs of food in one sitting, & that's all money out of your pocket. I love watching people like Joel, Randy Santel, Katina, Molly, etc, but you have to draw a line in the sand in certain situations, & this would definitely be one of them. To their credit, they actually never stopped him from eating, even though he was probably eating some sort of cheap mixture of beef & soy, & quite possibly also some dog, cat, & rodents all ground up into the mix.
I've visited Playa Del Carmen many times over the last 15 years(with the exception of 2020 & 2021). Catering to the young gringos is why it's so popular! I was trying to figure out where this small restaurant was located. The best I can guess is that's on or near 10th Ave in Centro. In December 2021 the MXN was trading at about 20 to the US$.
Joel, the bottom line is that the waitress & management padded the bill because they saw you as an 'easy mark'! Nothing personal, just a way some restaurants &

The reason why the hamburger tasted differently than North America is that many Mexican packing houses add a bit spicy pork to the beef patties! Oh, by the way Joel Mexico is in North America.
The best experience to enjoy a true Mexican style hamburger is the food carts selling Tortas in many variations.

Yeah, that’s not cool to charge for “fast service.” There are restaurants in The Bahamas that charge a 15% gratuity, but they at least put it in the menu so you’re not surprised when your bill comes. If I were you, I would never go back there. And you rock! Keep up the great work!

I have been working as a bartender/server most of my life. We make our by tips so if you're not giving fast friendly service your not making money! You don't a guest for that, it's implied in the hospitality industry. And I'm pretty sure most know that!

Looks like a tourist trap. This is common in Playa del Carmen/Quintana Roo (at least it was like that both times I vacationed there). I took a few 5-10 minute taxi rides away from the resorts and found amazing local food with better prices and fresh margaritas. Worth the effort.

Is the conversion rate strange? When I put into google 553 mexican pesos, it shows around 27 bucks. His receipt shows 42? Receipt says 12/2021 so they rates couldn't have changed that much in so little time?
This is why you should almost always pay in pesos when in Mexico.

Joel, How much did you end up paying? Because the bill shows $42 (553 pesos) , but that’s way off on the conversion which is about 19 pesos to 1 dollar. It should have been about $29 dollars before they removed the extra charges.
