If we think properly then America never got independence because the natives never got their land back. We Indians got our land back, so we are independent but still we are mentally colonized.

I'm from South America. The situation in North and Latin America were completely different.
In the North the natives apparently had had a period of intense wars before the French and British arrived. The occupation was mostly conflict driven too, but the natives were not enslaved, but "only" killed till extinction.
For Mexico and bellow the occupation involved enslavement and epidemics. It's estimated that around 120 Million natives died of european diseases. Possibly the biggest epidemic of "recent" history.
I'm always cautios to not be anachronic, to not use our standards and social technologies to condemn those from before. They lived in a world deprived of many of the things we know, and thought.
There are, though, things that even in their time was sheer perversity. The losses humanity and peoples had because of such events make me cry.

The story of colonization in North America has to highlight the impact of disease. Smallpox, measles and rubella killed most of the native population on the East Coast. When the English arrived they saw a post-apocalyptic culture that was dealing with an incredible trauma that destroyed their military and political systems.

As an American who is now settled in India, i remember growing up learning about native Americans in our history textbooks. And it was painted as very positive happy family lkke relationship between the colonialists who came to the US and the native Americans. We learned nothing about the genocides that have happened to the native Americans.
Then i moved to india, and moved on, forgot about what I learned. Later, I play the famous video game Assassin's creed III in which the main character is a native American boy who watches his mother and entire village burn to ashes before his very eyes, they were destroyed by the colonialists (called as templars), and how he grows up and takes revenge by becoming an assassin. That opened my eyes and blew my mind, because it was NOT AT ALL what i remember learning. And then i went into further research and finally realised how we were taught very wrong history about native Americans.

If there had been larger populations in the Americas, where there were constant struggles for resources, the same evolutionary process would have happened there as in Asia or Europe. Stronger city-states with walls would have developed there(Norths America), and then technological rivalries would have led to the invention of ever more modern tools, and then to the embarkation of ships... Unfortunately for them, the Europeans arrived before the advent of modern humanism and modern politics.

If there were hominids in the Americas 100,000 years ago they were not Homo Sapiens. I've heard that theory before, but I find that very difficult to believe considering we don't see evidence of modern humans outside of Africa until around 70-80,000 years ago, and that's just in the middle east. It's also extremely simplistic to lump all native Americans in one box as "peaceful" and "in harmony with nature" when culture varied dramatically between tribes. There were fairly advanced civilizations in central America and the Andes, but not in what would later become the United States. No one would call the Aztecs peaceful. I wish I could give back the land to Native Americans. I am not a European. But, I live in North America for last 2 decades and I feel sorry for them.
