Yes Roseanne was wrong but I honestly don't believe she's racist. I'm Black and I have seen real racism. We all say dumb stuff sometimes. I have followed this woman's career nearly all my life and I believe I know what she stands for. The original show was my life as a child and I still love it. This is just wrong without her and to disrespect her legacy by killing her off in any way was just cold. If I were one of the cast I would have just walked away. Not all Black people are against Roseanne and many forgive her. I think they should have suspended her for a while and brought her show back. Everyone deserves another chance.

Yes because being the face of the brand and choosing to say something that endangers the jobs of hundreds of people, is really gracious. As an actor, you are the product. As part of a show, you are part of a brand. It’s irresponble, not to mention foolish to believe that saying something that will likely upset a large amount of people isn’t going to cause your network/studio issues. Do I believe Roseanne is racist? No, I do not. Was what she said racist? Yes. There is a difference, you don’t have to be fundamentally a racist person to say something racist, that will upset people. In everyday life, that’s for you and the people around you to discuss. Maybe a friend will pull you up on it, maybe they won’t care, maybe you’ll realise what you said was offensive to some, maybe you won’t. All of that is a normal part of everyday interaction. But an actor using a public platform to do so, is not - everything an actor does or says in public, becomes part of their professional life. It’s a job. Whilst on Twitter you have to be we mindful of company values as you would in any industry. If you say something that risks the product because whether rightly or wrongly, people are outraged then you become bad for business and your employee must act accordingly. This is how business works. Roseanne knows this. The guy who signed his contract at Walmart or McDonalds is made aware of what the company policy is. She knew. She chose to say those things and unfortunately, talented as the woman is, she’s made herself unemployable, at least for now. The sad thing is, as the star she chose to say things that could’ve tanked the jobs of hundreds of others.
No one who knows that Roseanne was the source of this show, it was based on her comedy, should tolerate this being on in their homes. And they should ask others to boycott the show as well. SHAME ON ANYONE WHO WATCHES THIS.
It's disgusting what they did to her character. She was too strong of a woman to go out like that. It kind of puts a stain on the original show. ABC wants nothing to do with her yet they needed to use her to move forward with the Conner story. I would rather for them to pretend as if she never existed. If the Conners could really hold their own, that's what they would've done.
Look I get it, but when the show first ended, it was a disaster. Then years and finally it comes back only for the main character(despite the controversy) dies off screen and well yea. The main problem I’m having is the laugh track, I feel this should be filmed as an actual show instead of focusing on jokes to satisfy their audience. Death happens, but this was the main character. There have been so many inconsistencies with the reboot and Conners... 1. Where's Jerry? The youngest conner child she had towards the end of the series. 2. Where's Jackie's son? And Fred, Jackie's ex husband?
It's mentioned Jerry is fishing some boat in Alaska by Roseanne (before The Conners) Season 10 of Roseanne They don't mention Andy but Jackie does have a line that address some kids call their parents by first name...suggesting Andy calls her "Jackie' and not 'Mom' but nothing is really mentioned again. I almost think this is more reconned than anything. Also some stuff happpened because Roseanne was based on her 'book'..hence why Dan is alive. Roseanne killed her off in her book but wasn't dead.
I think we are to assume that Jerry has minimal contact with the family, and Andy has none. Also that Crystal and Dan's dad are divorced and parted on bad terms.
Laurie Metcalf was the reason for me to watch the show. She was and still hilarious. She is a great actress and I think she made herself. I didn't like how Roseanne was kicked out of the show but ...SHOW MUST GO ON.

Man they really aren’t holding back... it did make sense to go that route since the last episode was about addiction and ended in her hiding drugs... but I don’t agree with the way they’re going about it. After all the show was her baby, ideas of her own family.
She said she signed away her rights so that the 200 employees who worked on the show,
get to keep their jobs.

@@partyguy101ify Roseanne most CERTAINLY owned the rights to the show. She created the whole concept of the 'Connor Family'. When they fired her, that would have been the end of the show, BUT, she did sign the show over ....the show she created....so that the cast and all other people involved in making the show could keep their jobs. Of course they had to buy her out, but she didn't want everyone else to lose their income by shutting down the show completely.

@@partyguy101ify They just changed the name of the show. She created those characters. You can't just fire a person who creates a character(s), and then profit off of their creation. If that's the case, then anyone could, for example, reboot a show like 'Seinfeld' without including Jerry, who created that show
I think this episode was great ... because there are a lot of families who have to deal with death due to substance abuse and this shows how the family copes after someone with abuse problems OD’s . I loved it

i already know this show is not gonna make it past season 1 it's a lot more funnier with roseanne she was the star i watch this when it first aired if they not going to have roseanne they should just forget about the show the ratings are a lot lower than it was with roseanne

I miss Rosanne. No good without her laugh. the cast has always being great, but she was the center. I did not like her comment and we all know she has a big mouth, but the punishment was way to hard on her. i hate modern politics.
I'm glad Roseanne is gone. It seems *everyone* is too cowardly to admit it, but she's not the same person she used to be. 😞
Rosanne changing and bringing her toxic mindset to the show brought the quality down, she only has herself to blame for getting killed off on the show. I believe once after all the negativity and hate being thrown at the cast and show settles down, people will see how good it is without her, and if they don't, they were never true fans in the first place, just fakes.

the cast has no personality strong enough to carry the show IMHO. two bit supporting actors who got old and want to hang on, like politicians. they should have stood up for the one that got them where they are.
I think the comments here are hilarious. Look, she killed Dan off at the end of the first show, too. Then look, surprise, he's back. I'm not comparing his death to what she did, I'm just saying it's tv & they do whatever they want. Those Lost people were dead the whole time. They could bring Roseanne back if they wanted to badly enough...they just don't. Dan & Jackie were always my favorites, anyway. I like Roseanne and I liked her show, but I also like the other actors that bust their asses to bring us something authentic. I accidentally missed the first half because my dvr wasn't set up yet, but I still plan on giving it a chance. If Roseanne got a different show, I'd probably watch that too. And if anyone here actually has a genuine problem with that, it's just pathetic and sad.

Man they really aren’t holding back... it did make sense to go that route since the last episode was about addiction and ended in her hiding drugs... but I don’t agree with the way they’re going about it. I can’t imagine how Roseanne feels. She made a mistake, she apologized, she’s ruined her career... they should have gone on with a little bit more respect for her. I mean she’s lost EVERYTHING. It’s like jabbing her in the gut with a knife over and over. The show probably won’t last.
So, if they didn’t kill her character, how else could they move on without her? As sad as it is, the character’s death is in a way keeping the character from changing into something else. Rosanne will now forever be her, the way we remember her and her family moves on.
