That old but not dead club sounded so cute! :D So sad you didn't like Good Omens, it's definitely my type of humour. I am really excited to read House in the Cerulean Sea soon!

It was really cute. And I loved how some of the other residence were pretty obviously jealous of their group lol I was so sad I didn't love Good Omens! I hope you enjoy the House in the Cerulean Sea! It's a nice, sweat story.

I love your wrap ups, I always get some good recommendations from your videos. Also would you make a video of tier ranking every TJ Klune books?

Thank you!! I definitely will be making a TJ Klune reading guide hopefully soon. I want to at least read the first books in his series and his standalones that are available still. I have maybe 4 or 5 books to read before I can make a preliminary guide.

I just love the way you do your Videos. It is so nice to have somebody do it the way you do your Book Reviews.
I wrote some of these Books down. I miss seeing the dogs in your Video especially Nook.
Take Care & Happy Reading ❤️🔰❤️

Thank you!! Nook makes many appearances in the video that will go up on Sunday! He was craving all the attention, so you'll probably enjoy that lol
      Happy Reading!!

Yes to the Shusterman video! I've only read one book by him and really liked it.
It would be great to watch your top middle grade series or something! I read last year The wizards of once by Cressida Cowell and loved it! I read very little MG, so maybe you dont enjoy it so much, but it was charming and kind of roguish for me lol. (Nevermind, I saw on GR you've already read it!).
And, I'm curious, why don't you make your top of the year videos??
    Have a nice day!
    E.

I should stop trying to be a completionist and just do one soon. I can always update later lol
I did read The Wizards of Once! I actually read it this year lol It will be in my first wrap up of 2021, I think. I could definitely start to gather some of my favorite MG books to recommend. That’s a good idea.
I don’t think I’ve ever done the top or worst book videos of the year videos since I started however many years ago that was. December and early January have a lot of family occasions so my videos usually slow down during that time every year. My nephew’s birthday, my brother’s birthday, the holidays, New Years, my birthday followed by two of my brothers-in-law’s birthdays the following two days lol it’s a lot. Then I feel like it’s too late 😅

was so excited to see a new video from you! Did you already take the bar exam? Or are you studying for it?

    • @ConnorOBrien
      @ConnorOBrien  3 роки тому +6

I took the February bar exam! It’s part of the reason why my videos have been less frequent. I was originally going to take the exam in July of last year, but after it was cancelled twice and rescheduled twice, I delayed taking it until Feb. I passed 😁⚖️

Really want to read a Deadly Education. I feel like I got mixed review about it, so I’m not sure if I want to get into it but it sounds so great though 😱

I obviously did end up enjoying it. I thought the world and the setting was so interesting, and seeing El (Galadriel) start to make more connections was really interesting.
There were some important discussions surrounding the book when it was released that you may want to look into and form an opinion on. One was that almost all the students keep their hair short and/or really strung out (finely brushed out) because a type of monster lays eggs in hair and the babies kill the person. The author singled out dreadlocks as particularly dangerous which was quite jarring. It was insensitive to the history that dreads have been viewed as dirty which is not the case. The author apologized for adding it in during editing, and I believe it has been removed from future printings.
The other main one I saw was that El refers to her classmates by the language they speak. Ie: a mandarin speaker. El’s magic specialty is based on languages and spells in those languages, and it made sense to me that she would view everyone by their value to a potential alliance because she’s trying to find a team during the novel.
There are multiple reviews and blog posts dedicated to it if you want to look them up! I don’t think any of the ones I’ve seen discussing these issues spoil anything.

I'm going to try and start TJ Klune with his oldest book and work through his books. Everyone says he is fantastic and knowing that you like almost all his books, it makes me think I will too.

    • @ConnorOBrien

Good luck lol I actually recommend picking up what sounds the most interesting because he does tend to repeat characters in his books. Like, Sam (Verania), Nick (Extraordinaries), Paul (Tell Me It's Real), and this character in Burn which is not in print anymore are all veeeery similar.
His first book was Bear, Otter, and the Kid though, which I did ended up enjoying.
There is a movie called Shelter which came out before the book that people have said is very similar to his book. There are definitely similarities, but I think there are quite a few differences too. I watched it after the book, and although I can see the similarities, I appreciated the differences.

David bought me Anxious People a few months back for my birthday, and I’m curious about what I’ll end up thinking of it. It seems like one of his works that’s received less universally positive reviews.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on Anxious People too! It's some people's favorite by him, and some, like me, thought it didn't quite hold up to his other works.

I just read Anxious People last month, and it didn't feel like other Backman novels at all. I definitely felt very detached from the story.
