Thank you. I have a K3 (loaded) & P3 which I love. Some day I hope to have a K4. Last field day (2022) I got to work with a K4, what a joy, it is one hell of a Rig. Wes Larson - KF7BWS
For me Elecraft are one of the few that keep on pushes the boundaries of what can be, if there’s a problem they try their best to fix it. Think I need to start saving a little harder. Everyone is having such a hard time getting hold of supplies. 😏
Excellent++ video Jason - there is precious little for K4 on UA-cam or eHam, it is kind of funny. I am a CW guy and want to hear the radio puts out a nice sharp audio signal from the speaker, so far no joy...
@@gregmitchell2257 Thanks OM Greg - can you put a speaker on it and make it loud and sharp like a direct conversion receiver? Many of the SDR setups are better for subtle/quiet audio...
On the question of price I look back to the 70's. The highly desirable Collins KWM-2 transceiver sold for $3533 in 1977. Adjusted to today's dollars that's a whopping $17040. A very expensive radio in its time that still has utility, but the K-3 and K-4 have a lot more features. Personally I'm surprised that people are willing to drop $1500 for a maxed out iPhone 13, or $50k + for a pickup and they worry it might get a scratch on it.
Rather controlled envelop SSB, not constant, see W9GR article on "CESSB" in the November/December 2014 issue of QEX, dB increase in average power over fast look-ahead ALC is 2.56 dB
With all the s/w issues (bugs) and nightmare scenario upgrades to my Flex, it is not getting any better...in fact last update really hit Flex's reputation and potentially ran some long time Flex supporters away, like me, time to probably move on. The K4 will fill that gap. Do not get me wrong...Flex is an amazing rig, their customer support is 2nd to none but as a life time software developer and systems architect they have some major issues they really need to figure out.
I mean it seems nice, but for a radio that cost $4500 - $5500, it would have been aesthetically pleasing to see more put into the build of the front panel. Too much of a cheap plastic look and feel to the radio. The low quality knobs and VFO look cheap. How about quality legs to prop up the radio instead of a wire stand too.
There are many people who can afford such an expensive box. There is only one thing to consider. Does that make you a better radio amateur? And you also have to be able to operate such a device correctly, which you would doubt with some OMs. 73 gd DX DH1KJ

Hi Jason, great to meet you at Dayton, even though it was just a short time.
Hey it was fun seeing you guys at the meetup on Saturday! I look forward to collaborating on some videos soon. 73
@@HamRadio2 emailing you now....
I would purchase the K4 for the W9GR CESSB alone, very revolutionary to say the least !!
I think Elecraft radio's are the best. Sold my K3 and would love to buy a K4. Just can't give up my FTDX5000MP yet
The K4 just keeps getting better, I love the P3 to monitor the output of the K4. I wonder if they will sell the P3 system for this function.

Very nice, but when are the transceiver manufacturers going to start focusing units that cover the lower to mid-range pocketbooks? 😒
Not sure, but this is top tier equipment, not budget friendly.

Not many of those radios out there to do evals with yet
@@HamRadio2 Well - you were Johnny on the spot - good work.
I'm a CW guy and I love my K4 more than my K3

@@donr2670 Unfortunately, I'm not sure of the sound quality you are looking for.
What monitor are they using and are they using USB-A, USB-B, or USB-C or some adapters? All the monitors I see on Amazon are using USB-C.
Cool, But I will never be able to afford the K4 @ $4,500 plus $980 for the Panadapter, I do not have that kind of money!!!
Well, would you really need the panadapter with the waterfall on the radio?
No, the pan-adapter was there only for an example

I'm still waiting for a tuner I ordered at the beginning of the year.
I remember that there used to be a company called Elecraft that made affordable DIY radio kits. I wonder what ever happened to that company?
Never heard of them
Nice...................
When will someone be able to order a K4D with it being ready for shipping without a delay???
As soon as their backlog clears, I'd guess

Somehow I started this hearing 'Shut up...and sit down!" No idea....
LOL
30-40 years ago, there was a highend CB called ARF-2001, it has a feature called Sam the was basicly the same thing but not adjustable. A nice feature
And the status on the K4HD is ? .......
....mention in this video
How much 💵 is that going to cost
KX4 soon ?....
We can hope

Great Radio but just too out of reach for most.... not sustainable
Don’t kid yourself, there is a market for these high end radio’s. As with most everything else.

Not sustainable? Have you shared your expertise with Elecraft?
