Photography Pro Tip: How to Easily Remove Wrinkles from Muslin Backdrops in your Photography Studio
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- With the popularity of seamless paper backdrops in a photo studio setting, it's easy to overlook the ease and versatility of shooting using muslin backdrops in your photo studio. They're compact, easy to use, aren't as difficult to store and maintain as seamless backgrounds, but they have one glaring issue...WRINKLES. This video is a simple tip to easily remove wrinkles from your muslin backdrops, and some examples of shots I've taken for Savage Universal in front of various muslin backdrops to hopefully inspire and elevate the idea of using muslin backdrops in your photo studio.

GENIUS! The wrinkles fell out so quickly and easily! This is a great demo for photographers hesitant about trying out large cloth backgrounds and the prep time for them. Voila!
Hey thanks, and glad you guys like the tip. It really is the absolute BEST way to get fabric wrinkles out, and it's so fast!

Great video, thanks for sharing the tips!
No problem, thanks for watching and hope this helps! :)
Great job, Mike! Congrats on your new channel. Love your style and work as always, and this was pretty interesting to find out about. Now, a video about a foolproof, quick way to lay down a paper seamless without wrinkles may make me more willing to drag them out... 😹
Hey Chesh! Thanks so much man! You're always so positive and I sincerely appreciate it. Yup, seamless can sometimes be especially tedious to also roll back up without having it get all crooked too. Totally get what you mean.
Great tip. Thank you!
Good tip. Alas, I could not actually see the wrinkles first nor last. Might be the iPad or my cataracts. I will take your word for it. A closeup might have shown details I missed.
Really useful tip thanks! For the photos where the backdrop was completely smooth, did you peg out or tighten up the backdrop by clamping it onto a frame to get that tight smooth look? Thanks.
Thankyou!
The one drawback is, you have to make 100% sure the backdrop is dry before storing again. Otherwise you will have a moldy surprise waiting for you...
Not a problem here, I usually just leave it hanging until the next day anyway. :) Also, interesting that you commented on this video today, as I literally used this tip this evening for a muslin background portrait shoot.
I just got one - but it smells very musty.
Can I wash it first in a washing machine?
Son of a B#$%@(#%$@#$%&*@#$%@#%$!!! I've been steaming forever - or my wife has....wait till I surprise her with this brilliant tip! Bravo!!!!
didnt work with the neewer backdrop i got. i think its the material i wouldnt even say its a sheet type material but i wont be using it..
it doesn't work with neewer.'s backdrop. I just tried it too
does it need to be hot/warm water? If shooting on-location, it might be difficult to come across hot/warm water.
No, it doesn't need to be hot, it just helps.
MOLD MOLD MOLD….Nope not for me.
Not an issue at all. As I mentioned, you just ensure it's dry before scrunching it back up in the storage bag. Been doing this for over a decade. Works great!
