      Hi
I am completely new to gardening and I watched your other video a few weeks ago about potatoes. I also ordered 4 30 litre containers from Oakland. Can anyone advise me whether I need a special soil to grow potatoes in the containers, I bought Saxon potatoes, simply because I didn’t know which ones were best, any advice would be great, thank you

i really like the fact that in your videos you get on with the subject matter and you dont spend the first 5 minutes talking about your personal life nor irrelevant random subject matter, and you keep your personal matters or history to just the odd videos. also you are very concise and to the point, you dont waffle on for half an hour saying what could be easily said in 10 minutes.

I live in the US and I have container envy! Those look so sturdy and well-built! I am resorting to felt gro-bags and plastic storage bins and maybe the odd cardboard box this year. This is "experiment year" and I am trying a little bit of everything to see what works. This is my first vegetable garden at our current house and, wow, I had forgotten how intense the setting up is!😊

Last year my new raised bed produced Winston potatoes suffering scab and slug damage. I had to throw quite a few away and the rest looked bad and could not store. So this year I followed your advice bought some Charlotte potatoes and planted them in containers. My first three tubs have produced perfect scab and slug free potatoes. We can eat them all. Many thanks.

Hi Tony, I’m retiring next year so thought I’d start learning how to grow vegetables properly as I’ll have so much free time, so pleased I found your channel. The way you explain everything in detail really has helped so much in my understanding of what’s required. I will be mainly using the same 30 litre tubs as you so the information you give is invaluable. Thanks so much.

Last year I did the grow bags use 12 litres of compostwith one potato then I hilled them in the bags as they grew. What a chore that was. I had a poor harvest as well. Too much mulch not enough soil. This year like you said I fill the bag right up I use the same size bag and use 17 litres of soil for one potato and put the seed deeper. Then covered with a leaf Mold mulch it took 30 days but they are coming up sooner than my ground planted potatoes. Thanks for the tips.

If I could find bigger containers I know I’d get a bigger crop per bag. Doing all I can to get some kind of food producing here. Those pots look identical to the 30 liter ones that I use. I love them due to the position of the handles and the type of plastic they are made of. It seems to have a rubber content, not your usual brittle plastic that cracks. They are flexible and hold up very well. Made in Italy. Used to be able to find them at my garden store but they no longer carry them and shipping is expensive. Are these indeed the same pots? Thanks for great content! Great stuff, thanks Tony! Extra tips: 1. Mark 1/3 points on cane to ease staged filling of 30L tubs. 2. Cut compost bags in half (rather that at top) to halve the weight. 3. Cut off corners of compost bag halves (for drainage) and use as extra planters. 4. Write label on white plastic insulating tape with sharpie and stick under rim of 30L tubs (out of sun and rain). 5. Put washer for scrubbing off extra chits on string around neck. 6. One edge of washer will be sharper due to pressing, so mark and use this. 7. Cut a donut shape from a bit of old chipboard with inner circle the size of tub bottoms and outer circle the size of tops, then use as template on soil, digging out middle for hole into which to drop tub, and using outer circle to help with spacing. ... Dave in Monmouthshire (40 tubs on the go)

Hi Tony, I discovered your UA-cam channel recently and I have to say, I'm learning so much from you. Thank you very much for all the valuable information you share. I am going to start growing potatoes for the first time, and I feel like I'm armed with so much knowledge thanks to you.
I was hoping you might have some advice for me. I'm chitting some potatoes that I don't know if they are determinate or indeterminate. I got them from a local farm shop and really wanted to grow them myself. I'm unsure whether to plant 2 or 4 in the 30L buckets. What would you do?

Maddie give the farm shop a call do you have the name of the seed potatoes that would help find out looking on line if the farm shop can’t help.

    Love your vids Mate
Do you have a list of what are determinate and which are indeterminate potatoes please
I have started using the tubs as you recomend but not sure which to plant 4 of and which to plant 2 of plus you mix feed in bottom of container for the 1st 2 seed potatoes so do you duplicate the same process again for the top 2
    Cheers
