The thing with marriage proposals is that you should have a conversation beforehand, make the mutual decision together, and then you can have a surprise proposal as a romantic gesture, then there's no awkward moment if they want to say no, because it's already been a yes

@@Broxalax I mean if you're in a long term relationship, you should have already had plenty of conversations about the future, thoughts on marriage, kids, buying a home, the proposal is just a romantic gesture, but you need to know where each other are at beforehand and make the decision mutually, doesn't mean the proposal won't still be romantic.
If a future significant other proposes to me in public then I know they don't really know me because that is THE WORST way to do it

Why do people try to propose in public places wtf. So awkward for everyone and I HATE when the women is uncomfortable and walks off people are like "oh shes brutal!" Like NOOO
I’ve heard it’s because they think the other person is less likely to reject them if they’re in a public setting. If you’re in front of a bunch of people who are expecting you to say yes, then not doing that is awkward and embarrassing. Maybe it’s a subconscious decision. Also, probably because that tradition of making a big deal of proposals and doing them in front of a bunch of people is quite common and it’s shown in tv and films. Maybe they think that’s how they’re supposed to do it that way. Some women panic and run, which must take a lot of willpower to go against what is expected.
Putting someone that is situation is just wrong - proposals shouldn’t be a surprise in that way. It’s better if they’re done privately or at least not done as a public spectacle. The guys in these videos just make me uncomfortable for the women involved.
The bit between 6:49 - 7:53 was the most uncomfortable thing i've seen in a long time, honestly how do you not read the signals after the first or second time?! Very rapey.

it always sets the proposee up, either they feel forced to say yes when they dont want to or say no and have everyone say “how could they do that to the proposer!!!!”

I always thought that I'd just say 'yes' in public and then say 'no' later, but if there is anyone you know with you or nearby you've then got to tell them and everyone else that you aren't engaged now

They actually hired one of the famous ones for the crowds in a playoff weekend in the Hockey here in the UK and they actually had to cancel them because of the backlash that came from it.

Context for last clip: it's from the show love or host on twitch where contestants compete for the guests love but the guest eliminates a contestant each round but before the show the contestants picked love or host if they picked love it means they were genuinely interested in the guest but if the contestant picked host then they only were interested in the guest for clout as Austin (the host) then raids the channel (sends all his viewers to their livestream) of the guest if they win by picking someone who chose love but they lose if they pick someone who chose host and then the contestant gets raided instead. In the clip someone is getting eliminated but shoots their shot anyway

To be fair I definitely would be the guy that says oh mate or laughs because of the sheer cringe in that moment.
Proposing publicly is putting so much pressure on the person you're proposing to. Just don't do it. It makes them feel like a horrible human being even if they have absolutely valid reasons and it's not like they can just go "hang on, we need to talk". Instead, it's like "Holy shit, I am so overwhelmed, run, run!!"
