- In this video I'll be repairing and renovating an old carpenter's tool chest that's seen better days!
I'd like to thank @Flippingdrawers @Restomaniac & @MayfieldRestorations amongst others, for their help and encouragement as I try to make this channel a success. You guys are the best!

It's as beautiful as a carpenter's, now. It's a wonderful piece of work, Tim. I think you'll use it in your workshop. 😊🤗❤️❤️
Thank you very much!
Nice work 👌
Thank you so much 😀
Well done! Came out beautifully ❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful job Tim. Looks like a fancy suitcase now 😀👍
Thanks 👍It would be a bloomin' heavy suitcase, god knows how carpenters actually carried tools in them!!
They must all have had wheelbarrows!
Maybe they were carrying it to their apprentices 😁@@RhooseRestorations
Fancy "seeing" you here...lol
Absolutely smashing job. I love how it turned out. Adorable. Your attention to detail is clear. ❤
Thanks for dropping by!
Wonderfull work brother ❤👏👏👏
Thanks for watching
Great job bringing this back, it would be great to see it again in a future video with some vintage tools organised inside…👍🏻
Great idea! And I could play the part of the vintage carpenter!
@ Your restorations will keep you young buddy…
Beautiful restoration, amazing result 👏🏻. I just want to add that I think you put the handles the other way around.
Thank you and you are correct about the handles but I only noticed once I'd uploaded the video! Top marks for observation!!
Every time you put tape over the initials, I took a deep breath. I pulled the lettering & scroll work off an old cabinet with blue tape when trying to save it. Yours did great! In the future, an additional strategy... cut a piece of paper to the size of what you want to save, place the paper over the section, & and then tape over being sure to tape out from the edge of paper. That way the tape won't accidentally adhere to the letters & scroll work.
Thanks, I did do some tests before I committed to the tape!!
What a beautiful transformation!!
Thank you so much!
@RhooseRestorations thanks for the lesson. It's also nice to see some of my favourite UA-cam professors are here too!
Thanks for dropping by. 🙂 We all try to support each other!
@RhooseRestorations that's what I love about the woodworking community! Some day I'll be brave enough to start my own woodworking channel...lol!
I look forward to welcoming you aboard! 😊
@@RhooseRestorations awww thanks! I did start my own Facebook page. I'm a Jill of all trades, master of none...lol. I don't like being the center of attention so it's definitely putting me outside my comfort zone.
I'm currently in the process of building my own business repurposing and refurbishing items to keep them out of the landfill. I'm almost done my first storage shed. I've been learning from books and UA-cam professors such as yourself. Most of the stuff I get is free from roadside riches and Facebook marketplace. I have to work around weather so it's certainly a hurry up and wait process.
@@fdort3971 Good luck with your restorations and if you need any help let me know 👍
In addition to your obvious skill set, I like your music selection. I learn so much from you guys.
Glad you enjoy it!
Very nice work. And 👏👏👏 for keeping the monogram.
I see the card catalog came in handy as well.
Yes, I didn't have the heart to sell it!
Hi Tim 👋😊
It looks lovely now a piece to be proud of 😊
I love the fact you preserved the initials and kept the restore sympathetic to it's history and age 😊
Thank you so much 😀
This has turned out so nice
Thank you,I'm glad you liked it 😄
I remember my dad had joiners box like that old school not like me now l use Milwaukee packouts times have changed looking good sir 😊
With nothing in it, it weighs a ton. Old school carpenters must have been beasts to carry one full of tools! Or made the poor apprentice carry it!!😂
Great fixes, Tim!!
Thanks 👍
Fantastic job, master. Congrats.
Thank you, your support is much appreciated 👍
Nice restoration still got all its character 👍
Thanks
Great work friend, I remember my Brother In Law having something like it in the Sixties, have a nice day friend !!!. Brian West Mid's !!!.😀👍.
Thank you, I'm originally from Stoke !
Bravo master! Lots of love from Turkiye!❤
Thank you very much! Say hello to @Restomaniac from me!!
Nice workmanship. Great how it turned out.
Thanks for watching
Nicely done
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice job with the restoration. I do believe that the handles on the sides are upside down. If you tried to lift it while full the handles would collapse on the fingers. Also, when upright the handles would fall inside the depression.
Thanks, I did notice once the video was uploaded!
Look great now! Well done, mate. 🥃
Thank you! Cheers!
I love the box. It I do like the look of the dolls house in the corner as well!,! Xxx
Thanks, the dolls house is an ongoing project! If you subscribe and hit the notification bell I'll be able to keep you up to date with progress 🙂
Is this a Family Heirloom? You Really Put a lot of Love into It. Some History on it would've been Fun to hear. Would it have started out Unpainted and then painted Black? Beautiful!
It's not an heirloom I'm afraid. It came from the local flea market! I'd guess that it was black originally because of the monogram but the paint job may have been a later addition.
Nice work my friend, I think this is the first time I have seen someone use water-based lacquer. I have been thinking of testing it out, I like how yours looks in the end! Is there much odor to WB lacquer? Chest looks great in the end 👍
Thanks for dropping by! 🙂 Water-based lacquer is odourless and dries within the hour so it can speed up finishing. I like it because it doesn't give an orange tint to paler woods.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for taking the time to watch! 🙂
This old tool chest now looks fantastic! Such good work and saving the persons initials was a very nice touch. I’m curious what you did to fix the corner piece of metal that was split? Or did you even fix it?
Hi, as I thought that they were copper I tried brazing them but I didn't have much success! In the end I just kept them as tight as I could before nailing them back in place!
@ thank you
Those toolboxes were from the days when the joiner carried everything he needed and produced everything we do today. These days its a transit van for the trestles, various size circular saws, drill drivers, biscuit jointers, routers, domino loose tenons, at least a dozen different length spirit levels, laser lever, dust extraction, PPE, tool vests, tool belts, power planes, with power tools in 240 and cordless! The list is endless.
That's very true! 😄
Nice job 👍🏼 but aren’t the side handles on upside down. Subscribed 👍🏼
Hi, thanks for the sub. Yes, you are correct, I didn't notice until I'd already uploaded it!! 😄
Хотелось сказать, что хорошо, но это прекрасно. И сохранение монограммы и дерево изделия. Эту вещь хочется просто иметь дома
Thanks very much
Those cutters you used to pull up the nails, what are they called? Great restoration!
They came from Amazon Modelcraft Side Cutter www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001AE5ZTQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Nice job but you put the lift handles on upside down
Thanks, I noticed once I'd uploaded the video!
Выглядит слишком (!) новым. Ремонт хороший, но внешний вид предмета мне не нравится.
Thanks for taking the time to watch!
