I love videos on NES games and commenting to boost them in the algorithm. Two of my favorite things.
Nah
Algorithm, expand DidYouKnowGaming?'s reccomendationussy
I like eggs
But you're videos gets lots of views there's no need to push the algorithm your videos are good
I love the NES!
I'm 43 and I grew up playing NES. I still love NES, epically the music the console can produce.
1980, the perfect year to be born.
The chiptunes from the NES and other consoles of the same era are so unique and awesome
24:30 That samurai theme was also used in Mario Maker 2, on a special event trigger with a samurai swinging a sword and enemies appearing on the screen
People marvel over the _StarTropics_ letter, but consider the market for video games back then: kids age 8 to 12. Plus, you got all sorts of promotional paper ads in video game boxes, and very few people kept the cardboard box instead of just the plastic sleeve for the cartridge. Meaning, that letter was probably either lost or thrown out by a parent well before it was needed.
Half the time Japanese develops say their games are too hard for western audiences, and the other half of the time they purposely pump up the difficulty for the western version.
Seriously guys, how can anyone fall asleep to your videos? So jarring 😂
Little Nemo was a blast from the past. I played a little of it not long ago to test an emulator, and it still holds up even today.
Got the actual cartridge from GameStop (back when they sold used old games) for only 5 bucks. It's great, loved the TMS movie too when I was little.
Never played the game, but I loved the video when I was a little kid. My parents just couldn't understand I'd keep picking it when we rented movies
I never had a NES, even my oldest brother only ever had a SNES. It always blew my mind that some NES games' sales rival today's most hyped games. There are definitely a lot more gamers nowadays than there were back then yet here we are
If you got a Switch, try out the NES games. A lot of great games that still hold up today. Super Mario 2 is my personal fave
The really crazy part is I remember paying $79 for an NES game in 1993. 30 years later and that sounds like a silly price for a new game
@@tpolutts3309 hell, some special edition games for for well over $100 smh
There were less gamers back then, but also less games.
@@tpolutts3309 unfortunately with the rise of $70 games, in a distant future that may be the norm
Lil Nemo blew me away as a kid. I remember playing it almost as much as Super Mario 3.
Weirdly enough, it does work to help me sleep. English is not my first language, and although I can understand the narrator perfectly, there is something about that language, the English accent or/and the calm voice that helps me sleep!
Yeah but when u fall asleep to it night after night like I do you'll start to realize that u randomly know all these facts about games u didn't know you did. It's freaky....and in your case you probably will speak English better
Sometimes when I fall asleep with TV or a video on a I dream about whats being talked about
Interesting fact: the dual screen Punch Out arcade game was voiced by Don James, one of Nintendo of America's first employees, who also was responsible for writing the English localized text for Star Tropics (among many, many other accomplishments). James is still working at NOA, though he just recently announced he will be retiring in August of 2024
I’ve been for real using these to fall asleep to. Thanks for these awesome consolidation videos!
The sound is all over the place. You should check the levels, sometimes I turn the volume up cause the narrator is whispering and all of sudden i get deaf by 8 bit music
Kid Icarus? I’ve been pronouncing it Kid Icarus.
Hmmm... nah, neither. I'm pretty sure it's actually Kid Icarus.
I've always been fascinated by the NES and practically any old systems, so this video is right up my alley.
You missed a huge Takamaru cameo. In Super Mare Maker 2, there is a sound effect you can put in a level. When the player touches it, Takamaru and several of his enemies run across the screen for a while, blocking the view on what's actually going on.
How in the world does anyone fall asleep to this? Especially at 19:03 where it becomes more bassy than normal.
Have you tried turning it down and not having it on full volume?
I genuinely enjoyed Mario 2 & Zelda 2, maybe I just have a thing for divisive sequels.
I kinda want to play that Rockboard game too even though it sounds complicated as heck 😅
STAR TROPICS is one of the hardest nes games for me as a kid. The code and that stupid music note, not to mention instant death traps and hard enemies
Amazing video as always, love listening while gaming
Hell yeah, opening up the video with a Tim Follin track!
Did you know?
Back in the day, during the development of crash bandicoot, the devs internally referred to the game differently, based on a popular side scrolling platformer. Referencing the perspective you control crash, they called this: Mario's Hip.
What he said about no fear on the sweet home section, I’m not scared of most things but that’s because fear to me is only in the things we can’t seem to understand. I think I could make a hell of a game
Loved that I get to learn so many facts for the NES. Thanks DYKG.
I needed a video that lasted me one more hour to finish my work shift, thank you
Where do you work, man. I thought this security job at a casino would be more or less like that but there's *so* much shit to do and learn. It's actually my favorite job I've had so far, I just want to do even less lol
If you work a security job and you aren't into it and wanna do less then just quit. If you can't do your job and do it well you're putting people at risk cause you simply can't be asked
Atta boy
@@WagwanHappyPappyHapPap Didn't mean to offend you. I certainly try at my job and my managers often say that I do good work. I just want to do less work, nothing wrong with that
@@brendangilbert3283 do you take card counters out back and break their fingers?
Wow... I had Sweet Home but didn't understand or beat it. I was only 10yrs old. Now, seeing this makes me want to play it again. At that time, I lived in Guam & had both NES & Famicom.... also MANY bootlegs . Like 50-in- 1 cartridges.
Irem... I finished R-Type III once,
one of my greatest life achievements.
Thanks for putting this together. Super relaxing and nostalgic.
I can't tell you how underrated Sweet Home is. Phenomenal game and extraordinarily strategic.
the first game I've ever passed (not completed) was Kirby Adventures, really an easy and fun game of the NES library
That Rockboard game would have gotten a lot of love from me and my friends.
Did you remove a channel from some of those tracks playing in the background to avoid a copyright claim?
Rockboard is such a weird idea but it also seems kind of fun.
I wish i could go back. 80' and 90's were well better.
King Crimson is amazing. Not a bad album in the bunch.
If I were not a 21st Century Schi... Hey look a turtle!
One of my friends loves the NES. The madman is trying to complete the set.
Oh god yes I needed this today.
Wait, it's been 40 years already!?!
most calming voice
Awesome video. New sub👍
Some of thr secrets behind game development are surprisingly funny
Love you guys
I played and beat sweet home years ago. It's definitely an interesting game.
I forgot all about Billy Bayou. After seeing that footage at the beginning of this video, the name washed over me!!!!
23:41 that's crazy because Switch games like never drop in price on the Eshop, but I see discounted physical Switch games all the time.
*Jazz Jackrabbit facts* please?
Dutch (HOL) release of Kirby also had the cannon icon, like the french release.
Lol I don't even remember falling asleep ... Started the video and woke up hours later .. Guess it works lol
Lol what a coincidence i slept when this video played
I'm American, but it's still weird to hear the famous British 80s personal computer called a "zee ex Spectrum" rather than the more common "zed ex"
It sounds wrong as Zee X
Wow, Sweet Home was way ahead of it’s time!
This title is everything lol thought I was the only one
Holy Diver has so many music references, you'd think the plot was from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure if you didn't know any better.
Dang, they missed the golden champ opportunity to make Pudgy Mac an amiibo. 😢
Makes me really wish my old NES still worked.
Murusame Castle looks like a fantastic game for nes. Wonder why they never ported it. Also, having played a bit of Mario Maker 2, I now understand where the Samurai sound effect originates 😅
"today, we're starting with Super Mario Bros. 2"
"don't say it. Don't say it. Don't say it. Don't say the doki doki thing. Please"
Honestly, I feel like with as long as Did You Know Gaming has been running, they probably (correctly) assume pretty much all their viewers already know that little factoid at this point XD
56:22 that’s actually a common misconception because it’s the opposite which holds true. The rental market was so huge in North America games that made their way stateside were notoriously harder than their Japanese counterparts to capitalize on this.
Is the plot of Mystical Ninja on the 64 just a giant parody of Murasama's Castle? It starts off with aliens taking over a castle and animating a giant head statue, but to the end of turning it into a theater.
Only gaming videos you fall asleep to is AVGN. Everyone knows this
I actually fell sleep while watching this
Been searching for a new sleep vid. Lets see. Goodnight! 😂😊
I’m stoked so I think this helped pass time
Bro you can’t just lead off with Tim follin music I almost started violently breakdancing on the spot
I grew up with the NES, it will always have a special place in my heart.
I remember stumbling upon catching bombs in the air in Super Mario Bros. 2 by jumping into them from below. Love that game!
Just don't mention a certain Zoltar game...
I love Nintendo but the section on Star Tropics is just more of why they are so annoying anymore.
Came up with a perfectly good way to do what was needed in the Wii version and then dropped it for all subsequent releases
Tbf the original _StarTropics_ letter is also evidence of how annoying Nintendo could be. Most who played video games back then were kids, game boxes were full of useless paper advertising and most people kept the cartridge's plastic sleeve, throwing out the cardboard box. A few kids / parents might have kept the letter. Most probably lost it or threw it away.
I'm a 20 y/o with a small NES game collection and I'm proud.
That means you Were born in 2004
42:41 as floods tend to do
Commenting. Thank you you for your well spent time. You guys are great.
Holy Diver
You're the star of the masquerade
No need to look so afraid
Man I'd love a Mysterious Murasame remake
personally i never had the nes but i still loved mario
Mario 2 wasn’t designed like that…it was made for Doki Doki panic! Haha
Not saying this is a bad video but it is no way in hell anything to fall asleep to with this host jibber jabbering at regular/loud volume
Thee first song this video aways makes me have a certain feel, only Gs would know.
Kirby adventures was and still is my $#!+. No Kirby game has topped that one in my opinion lol.
GREAT VIDEO!
“…could alludes to the sweat bands.” 😂 what a reach.
Yo, I recognize that guy doing the Punch out portion.
Edit: I had to rewind, and sure enough, I was right.
No way, I have clear memories of Contra and I'm from UK, I have no memories of probotector, looks like the the universes have collided again. This is crazy
The Nintendo Power Copier lasted until 2007!???! No way!
Perfect to listen to while doing the dishes 😂❤
could have just called it Robot Landmasters, included the weird non-canon chick or weird non-canon doctor, and had more than 3 robot masters.
I like content like this
What a sad thing Wii and 3DS online function will be stopped this summer :(
NES snes please just take me back ❤
I would love more nes if they released prototypes on the nes online
Good video
20:23 Is it just me, or does this alien boss have an eerily similar stage layout, sprite movement pattern and attack pattern as a certain viney mini-boss from another Intergalactic Bounty Hunter's game? *_Super_* sus.
If i had to choose two games to be stranded on an island with its kid icarus and zelda 1, well in addition to wine women song, and electricity
I'm not old!!! Sure, I'm 40+ but I can still beat you one on one in any video game!!!
I’m putting this on tonight :)
Maybe…
algorithm boost
Kid icurus and Metroid was doing vertical scrolling before SMB2!!!!!
The rebranding is in full effect
To complete this mission, Noah has to take up a sword and a gun, and slaughter those who have the animals he NEEDS for the earth to survive! Pretty sure that was uh, the original.
Great vid
Nintendo should make a new kurasames castle on the tears of the kingdom engine
