One thing about Acola that might be a flaw in his game plan is he doesn't ever really hide what he's looking for. It might be because he's never mained a character that needed to hide it (Luigi, DK, Kazuya, and most of all Steve never hide what their win conditions are), so he's not use to doing that. If he can learn to do that, I think his Aegis could beat Sparg0. Btw, this is not a dig at Acola. We all learn different things about the game based on which characters we pick, and sometimes that will mean we have aspects of the game that we are lacking. For example, I play Sheik Pac-Man and Sora, so I've never had a bad linear recovery, so when I play a character with a bad recovery, I personally really struggle.

It just felt like there were crucial moments where Acola got nervous and went back to the Steve mindset of spamming kill moves with Pyra. Still, I think he should keep going Aegis against Sparg0 in future encounters, and maybe also use her against other players when there are real stakes, instead of almost exclusively using her online or in unranked tournaments. That would help him with his nerves imo. Congrats to Sparg0 for still winning despite the hard matchup for Cloud and the improvements made by Acola. He's looking ready to take the tournament.
I totally agree, but right after WTT Acola tweeted “Do I really need Aegis?” And I am so scared that he’s gonna drop aegis when he’s so close to beating Sparg0😭
he definitely leveled up but I also think sparg0 was playing a little too confident. looks he didn't give the proper respect to mythra in neutral sometimes and he probably didn't expect acola's aegis to be that much better. looking forward to their next set for sure

I was about to comment the same thing. I haven't said a positive thing about acola since he started playing smash years ago. When he started using Steve, I've hated him ever since. This is legit the first time ever, I enjoyed watching gim play. If acola was the best player in the world with Aegis and won majors with Aegis, I would genuinely be fine with it and love it. His Aegis is far better to watch, even tho Aegis is top 3 characters, she isn't busted unlike Steve. I hope he switches it up, I think he would get a lot more love if he did. He is good enough yo make the switch, he might not get as many wins, but who knows maybe he can make the adaption and actually pull it off in time. Instead of taking the easy route with Steve.
Acola definitely had some positive moments with Aegis. He just needs to get better in certain areas. Good example is when he tried to go for FF Dair to Up Smash several times. That combo's only true between 85-102%. He also can get better with juggling using Pyra's up air in addition to maybe mixing in Mythra's Neutral B as a combo finisher at low %. Pyra also can control spacing with her f tilt and d tilt, not just Side B (I'm guilty of it too honestly). And please stay with Mythra when down/in disadvantage. You need the speed Acola can definitely put in work with Aegis, it's just a matter of polishing certain aspects!
This was a really commendable set from Acola's corner. He's actually taking the time to learn fundamentals and puts himself in the fray with characters he's less successful with and I'm sure he's doing it to collect data for the Steve MU.
Yup, I agree with Zomba’s take. Acola is a great player and his fundies are good but he just got used to playing Steve, Luigi and Kazuya. Which don’t really use constantly changing game plans. But this Ageis looks better and he’s gonna practice it more and more. Especially since the 3 he loses to most, Miya, Sparg0 and Sonix, Ageis is the best character he uses against them.
Sparg0 is my favorite player, but I'm rooting for Acola in this matchup because it's a great matchup to see and I want to see him keep playing Aegis. Game 3 in this set is only the 2nd game Acola has taken in this matchup. Overall, the score is 8 for Sparg0's Cloud, and 2 for Acola's Aegis.

I swear Acola needs to start using Aegis as a secondary like Protobanham. 75% of his losses in neutral or getting reversaled came from his caveman STEVE HAVE GOOD F SMASH STEVE MUST F SMASH play. He's too friggin greedy in throwing out moves for the sake of doing them. It's all fun and games till a certain point where everyone is thinking "dude you're doing this to yourself". But gosh darn is he effective at this playstyle to make Spargo pull out all the stops.

The insane techs and skill levels of those players eith a character like Steve would be daunting. Once again, acola is good, but he would be like realistically probably top 20 in the world if it wasn't for Steve. Which is still amazing.

I havent seen this many switches out of hitstun since week one of aegis' release...I swear acola just has a list of good options that rotates through until the set ends. Dair upsmash is strong, so I will go for it. Switch gives me s, I will switch. Minecart is strong, I will minecart. Fsmash is strong i will fsmash 8 times in a row. To be clear, acola is a great player, but sometimes it looks like he just isnt thinking at all its very strange. Like he is just throwing out the strong option and hoping it works instead of trying to beat his opponent directly. It isnt all the time, but at least a few times a set he just kind of throws shit out for 30 seconds with no clear thought.
Probably past character choices, most of his characters kinda do that. For luigi its grab, kazuya = electric, dk = grab or down tilt, steve minecart and anvil, etc. Character choice has a basis on how we learn the game as well.
Acola does NOT have the fundies to take on top 10 players without Steve. I feel like that should be obvious even to him. Gotta respect him for continuing to put the work though I guess. At least his Aegis finally won a game.

Honestly when I clicked the video I thought it was Cosmos and Spargo. The moment I realized he didnt throw in a major way I had to open back up youtube to see who it was. I honestly despise steve, so seeing him play aegis is nice, fun and refreshing. GGs to both players. Im voting for spargoat and the tweeking towers for the tourney win. (I watched without audio)

If you're going to say Aegis carried him, Spargo literally went in Aegis in certain matchups in this same tournament. Spargo even said in the interview at the end that Acola was a lot harder to beat than he expected this time around. Acola has improved a lot against Spargo since their last meeting and I think next time Acola has a genuine shot at beating Spargo next time they meet.

- Game 1 was the closest game of the tourney
- Game 2 wasn't really close I agree, but still a last stock situation
- Game 3 was for acola
- Game 4 was a last stock situation, and considering Aegis vs Cloud in the equation, it was really really close too
Almost beat was maybe an overstatement, but it was definitely really close, especially considering how stressed acola was and the fact that it's still a secondary that he mainly trains online
What I want to show you is that his fundies are insane and trying to deny it IS insane (I don't say you did deny it, just that you underestimate them).
This set was arguably the only time Sparg0 was close to losing during the entire tourney, considering how well Sparg0 was playing, I don't think acola losing means anything (I don't think you'd dare saying that Sonix and Miya aren't top 5 or at least top 10 fundies)
Acola was playing an arguably better Mythra than Shuton (on some aspects), both fundies and character wise even tho his Pyra is veeery far from Shuton's
Remember that this Aegis is still a seconday he doesn't play that often and it still showed us really really good things
About what you said later, it depends if you count online or not. If you consider it (as you honestly should since Japan's online really means something unlike EU's or NA's) he has wins over INSANE top players, if you don't, he still has really really good wins against players like Doramigi (best min min world) and other players of this caliber, but it doesn't really matters because, as I said earlier, acola mainly practices his Aegis online and it still kinda shows)
Honestly when I clicked the video I thought it was Cosmos and Spargo. The moment I realized he didnt throw in a major way I had to open back up youtube to see who it was. I honestly despise steve, so seeing him play aegis is nice, fun and refreshing. GGs to both players. Im voting for spargoat and the tweeking towers for the tourney win. (I watched without audio)

You know how messed up it is to bully a kid that nice and that talented at the game cause he plays Steve. 😂 it could have been sparg0’s worst day ever, but it’s still extremely impressive to get those games that close and not with his “carried” character.
the shit acola gets is not "giving someone a hard time". Its death threats, constant harassment, etc. all because of a character in a video game. Scariest part is they can actually get to him.@skratchrapture

If you're going to say Aegis carried him, Spargo literally went in Aegis in certain matchups in this same tournament. Spargo even said in the interview at the end that Acola was a lot harder to beat than he expected this time around. Acola has improved a lot against Spargo since their last meeting and I think next time Acola has a genuine shot at beating Spargo next time they meet.

前者は互いに対策積む意味があるけど後者はスパが対策積まれるリスクあるだけ

間合いもそうだけど、ジャスガが刺さりづらかったりトロッコに大きめのリスクついたりで間合いを無視する選択肢が弱い
クラウドは、作中最強クラスの機動力と、3段ブロックを無効化してトロッコを安定して狩れる神の空後に、着地狩りと崖狩りの強さなどなどスティーブを処理するのに必要な要素を全部持ってる。
手持ちにクッパとホムヒカがいるとして、ゲッチ相手にわざわざクッパ出す人はいませんよね。そういう事です。（ちなみにクラウドスティーブのカードはゲッチクッパ並のグロカードだと思ってる派です）

Lowkey i think of Acola picked up Wolf to get better at the core of the game hed be OD. His probkem is that he plays crack characters who do what they want without oaying as much attention.
I don't think hes a bad player (I think saying that is insane cope and really just shows you're fragile) bit Sparg0 wins mostly off the back of his fundsmentLs and not much else, like hes very good but i dknt think hed have a good Steve or Kazuya becauss they arent really fundamental kinda characters
