    Wow this is way beyond the quality of other indie devlogs on youtube. This looks like a studio game. Everything from the character design, the art, the effects. It's a crime that this has so few views when the quality of the work is so so high. I think it might be an idea to focus a bit more on the quality of the videos so that this gets more exposure and hits big when it launches. Honestly shocked that you have so few views for how good this looks.

    Nice art but some feedback is I am not sure how I feel about the pipes the lava balls come from as it doesn't really make sense and maybe it coming from a crack or even a cracked pipe but either way maybe instead of the same ball it could be more like a drip OR a small stream of lava. For the boss fight (and other mobs) there isn't a faked shadow under which I think might help gauge the landing zone /size when he teleports down. Lastly its not really clear that (or why) the crab enemies are invulnerable and maybe instead when they are hit they go into their shell which makes them actually invulnerable and only come out after "x" seconds without being hit, when in this mode they might block other enemies pathing and just block your ability to shoot at enemies behind.

    1:27 can you make it so the bounce height/speed of the orbs from the spiders is slightly randomized so they all don't bounce in unison?

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  7 місяців тому +2

      Yes I could, but when you line them up after a kill and do a jump dash to collect all of them it feels pretty good to me, there's an upgrade also where the orbs fly towards the player within a certain range

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  7 місяців тому +3

      Either I sculpt it in zbrush and bake in Substance, and finish in 3D coat, or I just handpaint it from scratch...Depends on the asset, there's also tiling textures I paint and map it objects.

    Men You are so talented well done and Good Job , excited for this game , I like the art style and the animations and the design and the gameplay , the level it self is well done and i love it , the boss is legendary and his entry is awesome , i think that boss needs more fire and magma in his attacks , and i think that fight against the boss needs to be more fast paced and have more close ranges attacks , Anyway this is just an opinion and i really really likes your game i hope to see more from it

    Hmm the imps could be made of a lava and then harden into obsidian or black crust and fall down from the sky damaging the player. I just think the main issue is their color doesnt quite fit the level theme. Either way, super cool stuff so far and an inspiration to work on a game outside of the AAA work life!

  • @KevWills

    Don't kill me for saying this. But the spider with the armour shell. I don't see why they would be invulnerable, but the knights that lob lava balls who are also in armour are just regular damageable? I think the easy solution is to make the armoured spiders take a lot of hits to destroy. Otherwise they need some sort of custom look for being invulnerable to your regular attack.
    I was going to suggest maybe turning the lobbing lava knights into cooled lava golems, throwing hot lava, but then I thought, making it so all armour means invulnerable really paints you into a corner design wise, like your boss has armour. Anyways, might be as simple as making the spiders have a special blue metal shell (or any colour), and blue metal can't be broken with regular attacks, but other armour can.
    Your game looks great btw.

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  7 місяців тому +2

      yeah, I get that logic, its also something I thought myself about the big knights, maybe what I could do is have it be really strong armor, so damageable, but it'll take too long to destroy them. Yah lava golems work too, and I can turn the knights to something else for later parts of the game. For now I'll keep them as the knights, until I'm done with the level design

    Pink piggy monsters, I think you should increase the body/wings by 15% maybe a bit more...and make the head smaller. Also think these could be super fun if used where they fly in, in a almost connected line to create a shape...so like they fly in and are an a large circle around the player and you have to shot them to make a gap. (Could also do some fun stuff with armor versions of that). Kinda like the ghosts in Mario ghost houses. ua-cam.com/video/Vxg5eOPmzHI/v-deo.html

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  7 місяців тому +1

      ohhh interesting idea, although since I use projectiles to kill the enemies they wouldn't really pose much of a challenge unless they're invincible - I do like the idea though...
      What if there's like sorta "spikey balls" going in circles and they're being conjured by some mage or priest that you'd have to get through the "obstacles" to destroy him

  • @MrHussain99x
    @MrHussain99x 7 місяців тому +2

    Game looks great! Btw for your character rotation, do you rotate the player object 180° , or you handle the rotation in the animation itself? And did this require duplicating animations for each side? I currently just rotate mine 180 but I like how you can still see the front side of your character it looks a lot smoother that mine

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  7 місяців тому +3

      So my goal originally was to have the character always facing the front, like a flipped sprite even though he's a 3D character, so In the animation, after I'm done animating left anims...I mirror the anim for the right and export and in the anim blendspace I just have parameters for facing each direction.

    Amazing job good man, best wishes to you. A quick question:
    Are the particles (like fire trail behind crawling enemies, splatter, fire inside of flying ones) done separately in the engine, or are a part of the animation done in modeling software?

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  5 місяців тому +1

      The effect uses a sprite sheet generated outside of the engine. But the animation is done in the engine. Look up "flip book" for unreal materials. UA-cam has a bunch of resources for that

  • @TheWoollyMantis

    This game looks amazing man! I see you already answered the Game Engine question below. Are you using Blueprints for this or hard coding everything with C++? Also, are there addons you're using to help take a bit of the load off of your shoulders?

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  7 місяців тому +2

      I started with C++ for some things, but ended up with mostly blueprints, most things are running at the desired frame-rate and I keep optimized making sure I turn tick off of every new blueprint, try to reuse code where I can.
      No addons that I can think of, I used 1 asset pack for block mesh? But I modified it quite a bit that I basically only just use the shader that came with it for the grid lol

    amazing work! without getting into it to much but what made you decide on unreal vs unity? aspiring solo dev here and doing my research on both which includes making a small mini game in both to decide as well thanks for any help! keep up the great work game looks like it will be awesome!

    • @officialgrimwaregamesllc
      @officialgrimwaregamesllc  5 місяців тому +2

      Hey thanks for the question. Yeah Unreal vs Unity. I've been using Unreal for 10 years now. To me starting out as a 3D artist (which is what I went to school for) making things look good in Unreal and building environments for my portfolio in Unreal gave me a bit of experience. But with blueprints and some C++ knowledge, the way the engine works just makes sense to me. There's so much professional tutorials for Unreal, the community is very supportive in the forums. It had a lot of great stuff right out of the box, like the way the shader system worked and I didn't have to write HLSL code. (which I think Unity copied the shader system from Unreal)
      The best Unity games I've played are Cuphead, Ori and the blind forest (Will of whisps), and Hollow Knight. So its not that the engine is bad, its very powerful. C# is a powerful and great language for beginners. But I feel like you need to do a lot of customization to make it so. Vs Unreal which things are great right out of the box.
      Also with the recent Unity shenanigans they were trying to pull with all the monetization, I don't see myself using Unity any time soon.
      Best of luck on your game dev journey!
