I know it's difficult for me when someone interviews without researching history so I would imagine this was difficult for Al. At least he has the class to keep on the path.
I've always loved NRBQ, and Big Al is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. I met him once and he shook my hand, which disappeared within his large hand. Good guy, Mr.Al

Big Al was kind and generous and saved this girl's ass. There could have been so much more info gleaned from an interview that was 24 minutes with someone who actually knew who they were interviewing.
I saw The Q only once...1993...it ranks as one of the greatest shows I've ever seen...I remember Big Al walking thru the crowd afterwards ,leaving the club,then crossing the street to go to Subway...hilarious.
The number of interviewers who are smart enough to interview someone of Big Al's caliber, and do them justice, you can count on one finger. Maybe... I was listening to Al back in my Connecticut days when he was in the Wildweeds, and his song "No Good to Cry" marked him as someone to watch - someone truly special. She may be a little dry in personality however she is pleasant on the eyes so that helps but it's Big Al so he is pretty dry and funny too, so it's all good, lol soulful dude...so effortlessly cool

I first saw Big Al Anderson when he was guitarist and vocalist with the Wildweeds when I was a teenager at the Teen Center in Enfield, CT. I later saw him with NRBQ at the Shaboo in Wllimantic, CT. I used to live in Northampton, MA and too bad I wasn't anymore when he played there. I didn't know that he had written for so many artists. So glad that I came across this interview.
It was nice to hear the interview with Big Al. I grew up in Windsor zCt. One of my best friends was Andy Lepak. My mother and Charlotte Lepak were best friends. I ended up being a full-time square dance caller for 60 years. I remember doing the Brad Davis Show a year after the Wildweeds. Cliff

Big Al! The Wildweeds were gods to us R&R wannabees in CT back in the day, there wasn't a garage that didn't have a band in it in the 1960's. We played High School dances, Clubs, Beach parties, etc. Although we didn't have the talent of Al and the Weeds, I remember those days so fondly. There is nothing I ever experienced like coming off the stage drenched in sweat with your fingers bleeding after a 4 hour gig. Ha Ha Ha! No Good To Cry is a superb cut, still. So, Thanks Al, all the best! A great talent, a big influence though we never met.

This lady didn't prepare, she continually calls them "The quartet" cause she doesn't know who NRBQ is or remember their name. A prime example is here 4:45 when Al tells her why country artists in Nashville took him seriously soon after he got there her next question is asking him "But Nashville is a hotbed of alotta singer/songwriters so, how did you bust through some of that...?"
I met Al at his old hang out . A long time ago . Asked him what he was working on and said it was kind of country. Turned out I think it was a little bit of bad. He does not like being called Bid Al . My friend Vaughn went to the same High school . Nice guy I think he bought me a beer . Well he is not drinking lost weight it`s good for him .

Well, I saw NRBQ at cole field house university of Maryland in 1980, no empty seats people standing, dancing,laughing and having the best time. So Not just a bar band. Interviewer should have known they were the favorite band of many of the top artists
Enjoyed this video and a long time fan of Al Anderson. I saw him play in the Wildweeds in CT many years ago. I actually met him at John Tirkot Music store in West Hartford. I went upstairs to the Amp department looking for a bass amp and Tirkot had the new roll and pleated Kustom amps. The sales guy let me try one out and then Al Anderson came in and grabbed a guitar and we played together. Be nice to Ann Nyberg, she is a reporter for a Connecticut TV station interviewing lots of people and not a columnist for Rolling Stone. I thought she did a good job. Lots of people including me who like Big AL are music freaks and hypercritical of those who don't know everything about music. Still enjoyed the show

I played in concert with Big Al at "Gatlin Brothers Saloon" in Sacramento at the K St. Mall there.He was playing with Carlene Carter and i was in concert with another Artist,We knew each other from NYC and Studio work he did on an album i was working on.Another Group mate of Al's, Skip Yakaitis(RIP) was in the Wildweeds with Big Al and then joined the group i was in.Big Al will always be a great guitarist/writer and singer. Interviewing a guy from NRBQ when you know zero about NRBQ. Why? A couple helpful facts for our journalist: 1. NRBQ, while sometimes referred to as a "bar band" mostly performed their own material, including great songs by Al Anderson. Writing and performing their own great songs is indeed one of the things NRBQ is known for by anyone with even a tiny familiarity with them. The term "bar band" as applied to the 'Q basically suggests a certain informality and versatility. It does not mean they were a cover band. Why would a simple cover band be revered by musicians around the world? Do cover bands tour the world? How can someone be this ignorant? And have no shame about it? 2. NRBQ did not break up when Al Anderson left the band. They replaced him and continued. They still exist today (though Terry Adams is the only guy from the original lineup). Also, the name Al is looking for is Howie Epstein. And I think Carlene fell of the wagon after the sobriety period described by Al.

Dating back to BIG AL & The Crumbs. Does AL do that for all his line ups? Does BIG AL know anyone from Connecticut that Covers his Songs? AND furthermore has BIG AL ever kept his Promise to get other Talented Musicians out of Connecticut? I heard him say this to DJ Mike Lappitino from WPLR on the air!!!! Thanks Ann
She has no idea what a favor he's doing for her and her show. If Al had a bigger profile he'd never put himself through such a cringe worthy interview. He remains respectful to her the whole time. He must be a real good guy.
Agreed with all the other comments. The interviewer can best be described as lazy - the absolute worst. At least the producer should have given her background. It doesn't take much effort to find what a national treasure Big Al is.
I remember listening to the Weeds practice to be the Wildweeds in 65 66 at The Lepaks house in Windsor,Ct. Followed Wildweeds all over and Was only 10 11yrs old (older cousins) took me to High School dances All over Ct. Wildweeds had hit records while Andy,their drummer, was still in high school. Put out a country album in1970 that was better than any country out now,except for Vince Gill.Just sayin!
No shit! A half-hour interview (which is considered an eternity for TV interview lengths), and she asks for excerpts. If she was aware of Al's greatness she would have told him we've got plenty of time and gave him a thumbs up!
Unfortunately, she knew nothing about him. One mention of the Wildweeds, that's it? I would of done 10 minutes on that alone including a few of the Wildweeds tunes like "No Good To Cry" and "Someday Morning" and "I'm Dreaming". The great Bass playing of Bob Dudek..Most people tuning into this would know and want to hear about the Wildweeds first, then move on to NRBQ and then all the Nashville stuff..that would of been a good order. I did radio for years and interviewed many..but I always liked Ann when I was in Connecticut.. she's great on the air..but this one fell a little short..she just didn't know the subject enough..

Right at the beginning -NBRQ- ,followed by stunningly clueless attempts at trying to figure out who she was talking to.She thinks he's a guy who was in a cover band at the local bar who quit and went to Nashville to hit it big.Oh,boy.
Wow is that bimbette clueless. Even 30 seconds on Wikipedia could have helped a lot. No idea that NRBQ was NOT a local bar band playing covers for spare change. I couldn't watch the whole thing. This is why America is the way it is folks. Lack of education, focus on surface attributes and "professionalism", not one whit of care or funding given to the arts in any meaningful way. We are doomed.

She has no idea what a favor he's doing for her and her show. If Al had a bigger profile he'd never put himself through such a cringe worthy interview. He remains respectful to her the whole time. He must be a real good guy.
Agreed with all the other comments. The interviewer can best be described as lazy - the absolute worst. At least the producer should have given her background. It doesn't take much effort to find what a national treasure Big Al is.

I remember listening to the Weeds practice to be the Wildweeds in 65 66 at The Lepaks house in Windsor,Ct. Followed Wildweeds all over and Was only 10 11yrs old (older cousins) took me to High School dances All over Ct. Wildweeds had hit records while Andy,their drummer, was still in high school. Put out a country album in1970 that was better than any country out now,except for Vince Gill.Just sayin!

Then she asks for a little "rift of stuff". Oh brother....
No shit! A half-hour interview (which is considered an eternity for TV interview lengths), and she asks for excerpts. If she was aware of Al's greatness she would have told him we've got plenty of time and gave him a thumbs up!
Unfortunately, she knew nothing about him. One mention of the Wildweeds, that's it? I would of done 10 minutes on that alone including a few of the Wildweeds tunes like "No Good To Cry" and "Someday Morning" and "I'm Dreaming". The great Bass playing of Bob Dudek..Most people tuning into this would know and want to hear about the Wildweeds first, then move on to NRBQ and then all the Nashville stuff..that would of been a good order. I did radio for years and interviewed many..but I always liked Ann when I was in Connecticut.. she's great on the air..but this one fell a little short..she just didn't know the subject enough..
Painful to watch. Bordering on bad comedy/spoof interview. Where do we start? Right at the beginning -NBRQ- ,followed by stunningly clueless attempts at trying to figure out who she was talking to.She thinks he's a guy who was in a cover band at the local bar who quit and went to Nashville to hit it big.Oh,boy.

Wow is that bimbette clueless. Even 30 seconds on Wikipedia could have helped a lot. No idea that NRBQ was NOT a local bar band playing covers for spare change. I couldn't watch the whole thing.
This is why America is the way it is folks. Lack of education, focus on surface attributes and "professionalism", not one whit of care or funding given to the arts in any meaningful way. We are doomed.
Only good thing about the interviewer is them legs...Al is top notch!
