    Barbra Streisand is undeniably an incredible singer, but this has to be her greatest performance. The passion and raw emotion in her voice gives me chills. And being religious myself, I know how strong the bond of transcendence can be. No matter your faith or lack of, everyone ought to appreciate this musical masterpiece

    Lyrics:
    God, our heavenly Father
    Oh God, and my father
    Who's also in Heaven
    May the light
    Of this flickering candle
    Illuminate the night the way
    Your spirit illuminates my soul
    Papa, can you hear me?
    Papa, can you see me?
    Papa, can you find me in the night?
    Papa, are you near me?
    Papa, can you hear me?
    Papa, can you help me not be frightened?
    Looking at the skies
    I seem to see a million eyes
    Which ones are yours?
    Where are you now that yesterday
    Has waved goodbye
    And closed its doors?
    The night is so much darker
    The wind is so much colder
    The world I see is so much bigger
    Now that I'm alone
    Papa, please forgive me
    Try to understand me
    Papa, don't you know I had no choice?
    Can you hear me praying
    Anything I'm saying
    Even though the night is filled with voices?
    I remember ev'rything you thought me
    Ev'ry book I've ever read
    Can all the words in all the books
    Help me to face what lies ahead?
    The trees are so much taller
    And I feel so much smaller
    The moon is twice as lonely
    And the stars are half as bright
    Papa, how I love you
    Papa, how I need you
    Papa, how I miss you
    Kissing me goodnight

    My dad passed way almost 3 months ago. This song hits me in the heart. He had so many heart issues. He was like my guide and my enemy many times. He was emotionally abusive at times. But he loved so deeply. His father died when he was very young. So he didn’t have much of a guide. I’ll always love him eternally.

    "...and my father who's also in heaven" Written for the movie Yentl and the death of her father but also for her own father who Ms. Streisand lost at 15 months old. All of her life she was looking for a father, for HER father. I can relate. I never knew my own parents and in particular I longed desperately for a mother. It has been a life long search. This song, Barbra Streisand ... simply God's genius.

    This played at my grandfathers funeral 12 years ago. Ever since the funeral, I have been wondering what it was called since I only remembered fractions of it due to grieving instead of paying attention to the music. Finding this song after so long is amazing yet it hit me like a truck. Beautiful song, just amazing!

      I picked this song as an 8-year old for my dad's funeral, not even knowing it was from a movie. I heard it while we were searching songs for his funeral, and as soon as I heard her saying 'Papa can you hear me?' I knew I wanted that song. I understood other sentences (English is not my mother language) too, and it made me think of my dad. Saturday's my birthday, and I'll turn 28. I can't believe it's been almost 20 years. I still come back to this song now and then. It still makes me sad, and I also still miss him terribly.

    She says her inspiration for the movie Yentl came from her father, who spoke to her from beyond the grave. She claims to have received 2 messages from her father 4 years before Yentl was released. One message was "Sing proud". She knows it sounds crazy, but it was her father telling her to have the courage of her convictions. She made Yentl. And she did sing proud!

    Even though the night
    Is filled with voices
    I remember everything you taught me
    Every book I've ever read
    Can all the words in all the books
    Help me to face what lies ahead?
    The trees are so much taller
    And I feel so much smaller
    The moon is twice as lonely
    And the stars are half as bright
    Papa, how I love you
    Papa, how I need you
    Papa, how I miss you
    Kissing me goodnight

    Θεέ μου, ο ουράνιος πατέρας μας
    Ω, Θεέ μου και ο πατέρας μου
    Ο οποίος είναι επίσης στον παράδεισο
    Είθε το φώς αυτού του κεριού
    Φωτίζει τη νύχτα ο τρόπος
    Το πνεύμα σου φωτίζει την ψυχή μου
    Μπαμπά, με ακούς;
    Μπαμπά, μπορείς να με δεις;
    Μπαμπά, μπορείς να με βρεις μέσα στη νύχτα;
    Μπαμπά, είσαι κοντά μου;
    Μπαμπά, με ακούς;
    Μπαμπά, μπορείς να με βοηθήσεις, δεν φοβάσαι;
    Κοιτάζοντας τον ουρανό φαίνεται να δω ένα εκατομμύρια μάτια.
    Ποια είναι τα δικά σας;
    Πού είσαι τώρα ότι χθες
    Έχει κυμάτιζαν αντίο και έκλεισε τις πόρτες του;
    Η νύχτα είναι πιό σκοτεινή
    Ο αέρας είναι πιό κρύος
    Ο κόσμος που βλέπω είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερο
    Τώρα που είμαι μόνος
    Μπαμπά, σε παρακαλώ συγχώρεσε με
    Προσπαθήστε να με καταλάβετε
    Μπαμπά, δεν ξέρεις ότι δεν είχα άλλη επιλογή;
    Με ακούς να προσεύχομαι;
    Οτιδήποτε λέω;
    Παρόλο που η νύχτα
    Είναι γεμάτη φωνές
    Θυμάμαι όλα όσα μου έμαθες
    Κάθε βιβλίο που έχω διαβάσει ποτέ
    Μπορούν όλοι οι λέξεις σε όλα τα βιβλία
    Βοήθησέ με να αντιμετωπίσω το μέλλον;
    Τα δέντρα είναι ψηλότερα
    Και νοιώθω τόσο μικρότερη
    Το φεγγάρι είναι πιό μοναχικό
    Και τα αστέρια λιγότερο λαμπερά
    Μπαμπά, πόσο σ ' αγαπώ
    Μπαμπά, πόσο σε χρειάζομαι
    Μπαμπά, πόσο μου λείπεις
    Με φιλάς για καληνύχτα

      Zpace Mag Exactly, they're saying (or rather Deadpool did in Deadpool 2 when he's watching Yentl with his girlfriend, Vanessa) that Disney stole this song during the scene when Anna's singing "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" in Frozen.

    • @elisabethheiman2104
      @elisabethheiman2104 6 років тому +21

      Ken Harris ...Have you heard "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" The songs sounds very similar and nothing will change my (and many other people's) mind about that. I know EXACTLY what type of character Deadpool is. He's Marvel's hilarious anti-hero and my favorite character in the Marvel universe. Why does that automatically discredit anything he says? (Also, I don't know why you shorten my name as if you personally know me but okay.)

      DUDE I JUST SHOWED YOU A POST FROM 2014... . BEFORE DEADPOOL.... I thought it sounded like Frozen the SECOND it was on screen.. Before deadpool said it.. Man its not the exact same, but if you can't hear the similarities you need to get your ears checked lol.
      Even though this was the second film.. February 12, 2016 (Date of first film) People have been talking about how these songs sound the same 2 YEARS before the first deadpool.... I have a suspicion your just a fucking troll though.

      She's actually singing there.
      She tries to hold the candle at an angle so that it is in less danger of being extinguished resulting in another take.
      But when she moves her head around while singing, you can see the flame flicker when she's enunciating certain consonants that produce greater degrees of unavoidable exhalation.
      She has extraordinary breath control so you see little to no movement on the flame during her vowel sounds.
