  • Regardless of whether you have $100 or $100M in your bank account, if you don’t know how to manage your money, budget, and control expenses, you’re going to end up in debt. In this video, I share how I budget and track expenses as well as the app I use to track my net worth (=assets - liabilities) across different investing accounts.

      Hi Dr. Zhou,
      Thank you for this, it is very useful!
      Just 1 thing: I added a year total row at the very bottom (as month 13) so that I can have a pie chart of my entire year-to-date. I'm not sure if this would benefit others, but I think that it will be useful for me to see my overall yearly picture, especially for bigger things like car expenses, travel, etc. which may not be consistent month-to-month.
      Thank you again for taking the time to share this and the video!
      Best,
      Élise

      Hi thanks for this, it is very useful! I'm having a problem with downloading. When I try to download microsoft excel when I try to open the file I get a prompt that says there is a problem with the content. I try to recover the document, but can't open it. Is there another way to get a excel copy?

      @@BamBam983 Interesting - when I try to download on excel, I don't seem to get that error message. Have you tried saving it as a Google Sheets (which would allow you to edit the document instead of view only) and then downloading it from there? Let me know how it goes

    Thank you so much for this excel sheet, it is wonderful! Is there a way to get a cumulative pie chart for a full year in your excel or is it just by month?

    Thank you for the spreadsheet! Very helpful! My question is, if I want to delete a few of the cash inflow categories or even the investment section, how do I do so to reflect on the actual spreadsheet and pie chart (reflecting 100% and not just grey area for being blank). Look forward to your reply!

    This is super helpful. Is there a way to add more categories for expenses and have that be captured by the graphs etc? Thanks so much!

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt  Рік тому

      Hi Mike, that might be hard to do b/c it'll shift a lot of columns around...what I've done is change the name of some of the categories, combined similar categories, or put under miscellaneous.

    Thank you so much for this video and the spreadsheet! I was wondering how you keep track of the money you have saved from the previous month for the next month? For example, in December I had money saved for my January rent, however, since everything restarts in January putting in my rent brings me into the negative. Is there a workaround for this?

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your question - In your cash inflows, you can either change a column title to Balance Carry Forward and put the amount there at the beginning of the month. Or just write Balance Carry Forward (Dec 2021) as an item and put the amount carried forward in the miscellaneous section.

    May you clarify what needs to be done from trainee to staff to become a sole proprietor of a business? I know that this allows me to deduct business expenses, without having to incorporate. Your video also clarified that as a sole proprietor, I file my taxes differently on the T2125 form. Other than registering for a business account at the bank, do I need to necessarily register for anything on the Canadian or provincial websites? Or does that only need to happen for a business HST number?

    • @BreakingBadDebt
      @BreakingBadDebt  Рік тому

      When you graduate and become a staff physician, you are also a sole proprietor that can deduct business expenses. You only get the business number when you incorporate and the HST number is only for if you make >$30K in non clinical income (i.e. teaching/admin). There isn't really anything additional to register for as a sole proprietor, whereas all those things you mentioned is for a corporation.
