There's three other thing that does make Awkward Guests better than Cluedo - 1. It can be played single-player, 2. Some cases have the chance of there being an Accomplice to the murder and 3. You DON'T need all the clue cards to solve the murder.
I played a game of clue with my family once. My little brother randomly guessed the correct setup on the first turn he could. We haven't played since. Can't top that.
"Time Loop mystery" was all I needed to hear to instantly fall in love with the idea of Tragedy Looper! Sadly, it seems like just finding the game itself is a laborious quest, even before you can begin the difficult process of locating other people actually willing to learn how to play it. I hope I'll still get the chance to play it some day. Hadn't heard about Cryptid or First Contact, but they sound incredibly fun and interesting, while having an easy enough learning curve that you can introduce them to anyone! Thanks for the recommendations!
@@secretscarlet8249 It's sadly a common problem with out-of-print games that aren't likely to see reruns any time soon. I did manage to find it eventually through Ebay. My best advice is to keep an eye out and set up auto-alerts on online auction sites. Best of luck to you, I hope you manage to find it!
I am happy to say, this is my favorite new channel on UA-cam. I have been watching content all day. I used to watch WrestleTalk (and occasionally catch some of the videos that aren't current events), and I have a bad board game addiction, so this channel is perfect for me!
I genuinely love Adam for his wrestling knowledge, but my god if he doesn't make me love board games more than the sweaty sweaty graps. Good job and more subs to No Rolls Barred!
Hi Adam, Adam here and I love these videos. I would love to play any of these games with you and your friends, especially that Tragedy Looper. If only I lived nearby. You guys rule.
While I absolutely love Alchemists, I am not certain that it belongs on this list. It's a worker placement game *masquerading* as a deduction game. Sure, there is a puzzle to solve, but in the end it's about victory points and while solving the puzzle does help gaining those points, it is not required and you can totally win this without knowing what's going on. And if you only focus on solving the puzzle quickly, you'll almost certainly lose to an experienced player.
Picked up paranormal detectives at Christmas for £20. Best decision I ever made. Just got back from introducing it to our board game friends and can't wait for real life to show it to my mum
The best of the best is Cryptid to me. This game is amazing, deep, cunning and the mechanic is very focused. Personally speaking it is in my top 5 games ever
first: amazing trembling brolls for mysterium WELL DONE ADAM second: I now want to play first contact again, I have such lovely memory of playing that one
Would recommend a game called Inkognito, in which you are spies in Venice on secret missions. You spend the first half of the game finding out who your mission 'partner' is - & there is a strange 'randomiser' gadget that produces coloured balls! Can't fail to amuse & intrigue.
Mystery Express is like Clue with added layers of complexity and without the roll & move. If you remember Clue being fun as a kid but think it's too unsubstantial now, you might want to check it out.
I'm so happy you put Tragedy Looper on here, I was so waiting to put it as a comment saying, man you should have put Tragedy Looper on here... god damn no one will play it with me either..
@@NoRollsBarred trying to get people good enough to play the later scripts is just so hard. I ended up playing against the mastermind solo with me controlling the whole team which made it really hard for the MM. At least I got to experience it somewhat! Hope you get to play it on the channel. Would love to watch you guys play. Been following you since "What shall not be named."
Deception murder in Hong Kong is a fantastic sleuth game but it involves social deduction so maybe that’s why it’s not on the list. None of these games are familiar to me or in my collection so I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for the video awesome as always
I was watching the first nine games wondering where a certain game was. Happy to see it chosen as #1. It tells me this channel is legit, as this is the first video I've seen from it... and that's why I've subscribed.
Cluedo is good but have you tried dvd cluedo ? No roll and move in that and 10 story cases mmmm sounds like a new adventure for those who want an improved version of cluedo also if you get it wrong you don’t leave the game you put some of your cards in the middle for others to see
There's 24 seperate tablets with different word associations for different games, so unless you play 25 games in one night, every symbol can be unique for every playthrough, before everyone forgets what the first tablets words were, and it's fresh all over again
Tragedy Looper and the Midnight Circle expansion should be arriving sometime next week. Looking forward to the sheer confusion on my gaming group's faces when I try to explain it to them.
A compass is a thong that shows where north is. What you meant is a pair of compasses. Funnily enough, the game has what you referred to, also, but thats not the tool show on the screen in that moment. Lol.
I'd add Small Detectives as a better Cluedo for kids (and still works as a filler for adults). It's a tiny box, can be played on a small surface, and is still quite satisfying
I have to ask, how can you play First Contact more than once? Is there a way of scrambling the alien language for each game so your knowledge of it doesn't render a second game meaningless from the start?
Well TIL Clue is known as Cluedo outside of North America. Cause I definitely came into this video assuming Cluedo was some variation of the original Clue. Is the Clue movie called Cluedo in the UK?
Have you tried Kill Doctor Lucky by Cheapass Games? It's like Cluedo, but the players are racing around the mansion trying to do the murder instead of solve it.
I am going to pitch tragedy looper to my girlfriend as a playable version of the “bites the dust” arc in jojo’s bizarre adventure: Diamond is unbreakable
thanks for the video. background music is very annoying and distractive! Please dont use background music, silent is the best for listening. You are interesting ebough. And that piano is very distractive

Like getting Wordle on the first guess!
As a D&D player, monks can absolutely murder. And they're damn good at it.
In my experience monks are either useless or the best killers in the party

Don't even like board games this much

Yay! Adam's phone screen makes another guest appearance. Look at how cracked it is!
ADAM: hmph
These all sound soo great!! My jaw dropped at First contact, literally was left with my mouth open for its duration and into the next one even :)))
Gallows voice "Howww many monks ahhhhh thehhhhhh"
I genuinely love Adam for his wrestling knowledge, but my god if he doesn't make me love board games more than the sweaty sweaty graps. Good job and more subs to No Rolls Barred!
But Tim Curry has to be Long John Silver in Treasure Island, so you can link it, Six Degrees-style, to Cluedo, via the film
I love that idea.
Wow Tragedy Looper totally sounds like the game for me. It also sounds like the game nobody I know would ever wanna play.
I've missed you so much, Plumpie. I'm so pleased that I stumbled across your new channel. Loving it.
No Rolls Barred should make a make Fakidor game. Haha crossover and branding!
you have to work out who blew mr davis

Im definitely going to take a closer look at Awkward Guests and Mystery of the Abbey.

yes the brolls are much better now, please stop using old ones tho, otherwise i feel i will be forced to downvote the videos :P
“ and the weapon, which is also how, but never mind “ ohhh how brilliantly you snuck that in there 😂
Love your taste in games! Thanks for the suggestions :)

All of your content is great!
Sleuth, a deduction game without the chrome. When you objected to the roll & move aspect of Cluedo, Sleuth came immediately to mind.
Absolutely. I love Sleuth.
I feel your pain about Tragedy Looper. It is one of my favorite games ever (along with Alchemists) and I cannot get it to the table!
Mystery Express is like Clue with added layers of complexity and without the roll & move. If you remember Clue being fun as a kid but think it's too unsubstantial now, you might want to check it out.
I was hoping for Deception Murder in Hong Kong on this list, it's brilliant.
Deception murder in Hong Kong is a fantastic game! However, it would fall into the social deduction game genre
we really like the Search for Planet X, Shipwreck Arcana and Mr. Jack Pocket :)
awesome the nr. 1 was the game i was looking for...and saw a few others you rock.
Paranormal Detective! First board game I bought myself. Glad to see it made the list.
Surprised that Whitehall Mystery wasn't in the video.
I'm so happy you put Tragedy Looper on here, I was so waiting to put it as a comment saying, man you should have put Tragedy Looper on here... god damn no one will play it with me either..
ADAM: Everyone always has a great time in the end, but getting them through that first loop is like herding snails BUT WE PRESS ON, BRAVELY

"Fortunately not" played by Tim Curry. Thems fightin' words mate.
First Contact has features of the game Concept. I'm into it!

Awkward Guests- what a game!! It also has a decent solo mode using the app
I’m a simple Cluedo lover: I watch this video, I immediately buy “Tragedy Looper”.
Another great video from my favorite No Rolls Barred member, Adam's cracked phone. 🐂E🐂E🐂E

Tragedy Looper just sounds like Umineko: The Board Game
Okay, I collect vinyl, and now you're making me want to collect board games... fffffffffUUUUUUUUUU--
With First Contact, if you've already played it, won't you then just remember the symbols from the last time you played?

Hey, Adam? I would *absolutely* play Tragedy Looper with you. I suspect that victory is worth the headaches.
How are you guys gonna record videos once covid is over? What camera angles are you guys gonna use?

Mr Jack. the best 2 player deduction game there is!
I am going to check out Cryprid !!!
Is Awkward Guests your favorite? If not which one
With that number 7 and some jokes in previous lists, i'm starting to think Adam is really into anime...
I have to ask, how can you play First Contact more than once? Is there a way of scrambling the alien language for each game so your knowledge of it doesn't render a second game meaningless from the start?
What about Murder Deception in Hongkong?
Mysterium Park is a sequel to the original Mysterium without the weapons. I own both
I hope Adam gets to play Tragedy Looper on Boardgame Club.
Well TIL Clue is known as Cluedo outside of North America. Cause I definitely came into this video assuming Cluedo was some variation of the original Clue. Is the Clue movie called Cluedo in the UK?
Good video lumpy....
I’ll play tragedy looper with you Adam! That game sounds fucking fantastic!
The “how” could mean how the weapon was used. You don’t have to fire the gun to kill someone with it.
What's your beef with Cluedo??
Tobago, the game the designers of Cryptid apparently wish they had designed.
Have you tried Kill Doctor Lucky by Cheapass Games? It's like Cluedo, but the players are racing around the mansion trying to do the murder instead of solve it.
Search for Planet X rose to the top of this list for me
ADAM: Finally managed to snap a copy, and it would probably be my number 1 too
Adam - I will play Tragedy looper with you :)
For #7 have you ever watched RE:Zero the anime? I think you might like it.

Is that a monk thing? Let me just check the Bible.. turns out kinda!
Doesn't it get to a point where, while playing First Contact, you just learn what all the symbols mean?
ADAM: Ah, every game the aliens will be using a different grid of words & symbols. There's a whole bunch of them in the box :)
@@NoRollsBarred Ah, makes sense now! Thank you, Mr. #TheOneTrueAdam
Who? When? Why? How?
And how???
I guess how cannot be answered enough.
But how?
The original Mysterium is far better than its smaller spin-off, Mysterium Park.
When you were checking the Bible to see if murder was a “monk thing”, you obviously weren’t checking the WAR BIBLE! #SnakeOil
Anyone wanna play Tragedy Looper on tabletop sim?
Made up a game called Guess Whodunnit. You just play Guess Who but with murder.
