- Georgia Part One: Come join me as I return to attempt another thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. Not sure how far I’ll go this time, but it’s great to be back. In this video we’ll be going from Springer Mountain to Neels Gap. Love ya all!!!

Hey Big Willy Dawg, great to see you back on the trail! This is Geo. Not sure if you remember, but I hiked with you for one day during my nobo 2023 thru hike in north TN to Shady Valley US 421 where I got back to my car which was parked there. You ended up waiting for your shuttle back to the hostel.
I got to Damascus before you and then took about 2 weeks off to go back to work and never caught up to you and Pat. I followed you thru Pat’s video’s. Wasn’t aware you made videos. By the way, I finished my thru hike after you guys back in 2023.

I remember the weather was warm and sunny on that day in late March, and the trail conditions were amazing. Hiking with you was really enjoyable, and we had some great conversations that made the miles go by quite effortlessly. It would have been nice to hike more with you and Pat, but I kept getting pulled off trail by my job such that I was unable to catch up to you guys as we all headed north. Nonetheless, I’m really excited for you, as well as somewhat jealous, as you begin your next journey on the AT. I have subscribed to your channel and plan on following closely until I can get back on trail later this year.

That was fun to watch! Just as I was thinking "Oh, nice legs," your caption came across the screen asking if they were obese. I would say no! Sorry I'll miss my fellow Ohioans; I'm from the Cleveland area and I'm starting next week. Ohio hikers rock! I'm 65 and still alive, so I thought I'd better go before it's too late. I think my trail name will be Sally, b/c every day I sally forth. Only other old folks will get the joke, but that's okay.

Great to see you, BWD! WOW, you make me want to get back to the AT (went 816 miles in 2024) but then my memory tends to only have the good parts and conveniently drops those uphill climbs, haha! I do remember that it was difficult finding the trail, sometimes, coming down from Blood Mountain. You need to get that heart rate checked! Maybe you are just really hyped up being on the AT again but getting down to only 100 three hours after stopping for the day doesn’t sound right. You should get it checked while at the fabulous, “Green Dragon”.

As we get older, we get less tolerant of the cold. Try a pocket warmer that burns lighter fluid. The south side of a hill will get better sun. If you want to take advantage of it, carry a clear plastic bag that you can climb into. Sit in the sunlight, in the bag, and you will warm up. I was trying to push through life but ended up getting an angeoplasty and stint the other day. I was very close to the end. Be careful that you don't push too much. Happy trails. Good Luck, Rick

So good to have you back. That high heart rate scared me. I hope it has gone back to normal. If it has not you might want to get it checked out. My wife has something called AFIB which causes her heart rate to go high for no reason.

I tried a few of those Alpine freeze dried meals and the worst was Beef and Creamy noodles. Got the worst case of diarrhea I’ve ever had. The worst was we were above the tree line. I’d of given $100 for some Imodium!!! What a pain in the A$$. Hope you didn’t have the same??

You need to have your heart rate checkec by a doctor. Doesnt sound normal for it to stay 100 after several hours.
