  • The “home” that soldiers returned to after World War I was quite different than the one they left in 1917-1918. It set the stage for the arts movements of the Roaring Twenties and for better veterans’ services in World War II.

I wish i could meet a world war 1 vet that fought for usa id thank em for their service. World war 1 changed warfare but it prepared America for world war 2 thats for damn sure. My great grandpa fought in world war 2.

My great grandfather was in 1 and my grandfather, his son, was in 2. Needless to say I am very fortunate to be here today. WW1 he was at St Mihiel and Meuse Argonne as a Captain later Major. He was awarded a Silver Star (Citation) at the time. Purple Heart. Wounded in both. Refused to quit in St. Mihiel which is why he was awarded Silver Star. All other officers in his regiment had been killed or wounded. He led his men still taking out machine gun nests they were encircled by. He was commanding his battalion in Meuse Argonne when he took shrapnel which put him out of the war. He recovered thankfully. He was one of three boys. All three were in the Army in WW1. All came home. He had two sons who would fight in WW2. One, my grandfather, was in the Navy in the Pacific on a destroyer from 42-46. His brother my great uncle was a navigator on a B17 over the Rhineland. My family is beyond blessed. All soldiers/sailor returned home. Family has fought in every war from Revolutionary to Nam'. How I am here today is nothing but a mere blessing.
