Quite so - I've been using them for over 50 years Title is crap but the point of the video is to show folks who have the time, tools and inclination, one way of making one for themselves. Quite enjoyable making your own tools ... tends to make you less likely to abuse them when tired or in a hurry
Exactly! It's a simple nut splitter, just like any of the 3 or more different versions you can buy on Amazon right now and HAVE been around for 60 years that I personally have been seeing them and probably a lot longer. Not that many people have access to both a lathe AND a mill and even if they did, Without hardening that probably only mild steel hex stock he used AND the main unit, they wouldn't last long either. This thing can only handle pretty small nuts too while the Amazon or EBay cheapies at least might. I'd estimate even with the equipment, at least around 4 hours to make, and that's assuming you've got all tooling handy, including the knurling tool, another hour or so IF you've used good high carbon steel and harden then temper the parts appropriately. I value my time at more than the around $2 an hour that piece of junk works out to. I'd also rather have one that is capable of bigger than nuts for 1/4 inch thread.
The hydraulic type is the best in use. I have a hydraulic splitter made by KD Tools which has the shank part offset at an angle thus making it easier to get into tight spaces with.
New backsplash looks very cool. The new paint scheme sounds nice also. You have this. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy From Henrico County Virginia
So much fun and pride in making it yourself from scrape around the shop. Now make it about 1/3 the size to be more applicable for automotive applications to get into tight spaces.
wish I had a £1 every time I have made one of those I worked in metal finishing for many years and on the Acid/Zinc plating plant you had little or no chance of getting a spanner on a nut
Nice work. But why should one make such a tool, that you can buy for few Euros (Dollars, Rubel) ? And maybe you should use coolant for your saw to avoid breaking blades.?
It is a nut splitter which is useful when dealing with rusted or seized nuts. They are commercially available from a number of reputable brands....look up nut splitter.
@Love2F, except the satisfaction that you made something with your own hands that many people just buy and don’t have any idea what it takes to produce the item 😉 ! Plus you save a few bucks ! 😊.

Isn't it necessary to use coolant when cutting and machining steel?
Schöne Werkstatt. 👍
I own one that I bought at Sears.

Ah, the wheel re-invented….
Clickbait. If anyone was surprised by this, they weren't a professional mechanic.

I have one made by Lisle 40 years ago. Maybe 50.
You spent the afternoon making a tool you can buy for a few dollars.
That's what I thought seems this man has nothing to do, well actually he is trying to get some views to get some money from YT:-)))
Bolt splitter. Made about 100 years ago by everyone
I’ve had one for about 50 years….nice work, but nothing new..
Buy an angle grinder….jeeze what a wast of time
i have one of those in my garage?....nothing new here?
dudes got a neural link insataLLED
Herramienta casera????? este wey!!!! Jejeje
Buy real bandsaw blades and that won't happen, not METAL MASTERS
Don't really see the point in making one, they can be bought in North America for $15 or less. What's your time worth?
why all this trouble when you can buy a hydraulic nut splitter for a few dollars
I dont know about you but you cant re-invent a clamp ours have a rectangular hole for holding strips of steel :-\
I don't understand the purpose of this tool..
It is a nut splitter which is useful when dealing with rusted or seized nuts. They are commercially available from a number of reputable brands....look up nut splitter.
You can't re-invent the wheel!!

A tool like this has been designed and patented years ago. Nothing new. Just stealing others ideas for your channel.

Cobalt dust is VERY harmful, wear a mask while grinding a drill
Thank you and welcome friend😉
