- A gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a common mesenchymal tumor of the gastrointestinal tract, making up 1 to 3 percent of all gastrointestinal malignancies. GIST tumors are caused by mutations in the Kit gene or PDGFRA gene. I had a Gist tumor and had surgery it's been 5 years.since and haven't had any reoccurrence it was located on the small intestine when they opened me up there was another tumor on the head of pancreas. hopefully I won't have it again.

Today at work we saw a case of GIST intraabdominal measuring 5.4x5cm just next to pancreatic body and infront aorta well circumscribed outlines poor vasculature endoscopy sonogram done with biopsy and aspiration from the lesion

he might need his stomach removed (gastronomy) and he'll be ok...get him to a doc get surgery.
