Original broadcast date: 2nd June 1980.
“Virtue versus vices, only causes crises. No scandal with ideals can be combined”
Neil in drag as a burlesque dancer in a high class den of iniquity. An ode to the great British tradition of sleaze in politics and to scandals like the Profumo affair with Christine Keeler. Will there ever be a time when this song will not be relevant?
One of the most memorable of the IBoR videos/songs. I was blocked on the old BBC Points of View message boards for suggesting this should be played at the end of Newsnight every time a cabinet minister resigns.
One of my most treasured possessions is the lyrics of this song handwritten by Neil himself. And when will this song ever not be topical?
I think I’m going to post this to my Facebook page every time it happens. His singing off key is hilarious and as for the dancing!
Pure comedy and will never go out of style.
