Finally, I've voted for Siegfried and waited for this review for sometime now. I'm just really curious on his gameplay since I rarely encounter such ship in an average game. I think, I have only encountered her three or four times and managed to sink only one Siegfried by a long range duel.
She drives like a battleship, her 380s turn like BB guns (they are basically Bismarck guns AFAIK), and the lack of manual secondaries make dealing with DDs more difficult. She reminds me a lot of the Gneisenau. Probably her biggest advantage is her designation - people see a cruiser, give a bit more broadside, and suddenly find themselves at the receiving end of 6 very angry 380mm AP shells with a 15s reload. She absolutely murders cruisers, you can brawl BBs if you know what you're doing, and destroyers can be an issue.
@@FunandGameswithTerry if you would base it on looks and design, she is basically a tier IX Gneisenau. You were right with your gameplay video that despite its Cruiser designation in the game, she was actually a light BB or simply a Battle Cruiser and being the only cruiser on that game you could still fight like a BB. I loved the last minutes of that match where you fought toe to toe with a Friedrich and being able to withstand his salvos. I'm not a big fan of Friedy in long ranged duels because of her poor accuracy with big shell dispersion but once I get close enough to use my secondaries, the enemy ship on the recieving end would really regret in getting close to a Friedy and take some serious beating.
Siegfried is pretty sturdy for a cruiser, and has a big health pool. I wish I had focused down Roma, she was on low health and under air attack, so I figured I'd rush Freddy, but that thing ended up taking out our CV. I got a bit lucky that the Freddy turned out to dodge my "torps" - mind games :)
@@thomasdave4435 Yeah, the 380mm guns on the Siegfried are battleship guns, but they get cruiser dispersion and reloading. That means it’s more accurate than a Bismarck’s guns, and the damage you can deal is effectively the same as the Bismarck (two barrels less, but they are more accurate and fire more often, so you get roughly the same damage per minute). The armour is strong for a cruiser, but would be weak for a battleship at tier 9. It’s not a brawler like a Bismarck or FdG, but a more like a raider as Scharnhorst or gneisenau in play style which aren’t really pure battleships either. For consistency, either the Scharnhorst class should be cruisers like the Siegfried or the Siegfried should be a battleship like the Scharnhorst class - but it’s borderline.
At the beginning of the battle, that matchmaking is broken. What league were all the opposing team's ships in compared to your teammates. As soon as I saw that, I knew how the battle would turn out.
I think it helped me to play all countries and all ship types up through the tiers. I had 7 Tier 9 before I bought my first tier X. When I finally started playing tier X it was pretty fun. Of all the tiers, I. found IX the hardest . It always seems I am a bottom-feeder in a tier X heavy game. This ship looks to be like a ship to get killed in tier X heavy battle. Great review
Thanks! Tier 9 is generally considered among the hardest. The meta can change significantly after tier 8, so for a first timer, it can be a bit of a shock to rush forward and suddenly find themselves alone in front of the whole enemy team. I think that's the main reason tier 9s can be regarded as difficult. Take, for example, the Roon. Most people dislike that ship quite a bit, since she's just so considerably weaker than the Hindi at tier 10, and probably even slightly weaker than the Hipper at 8. Personally, I quite enjoy the ship, despite her shortcomings. And the Neptune is one of my favourite cruisers of all time. I have yet to play DD beyond tier 8 - probably going to be Hsienyang first.
Thank you for yet another great video Terry! I was wondering if you could help me decide on which next t9 destroyer I should pick. Got t9 Japanese and it feels a bit “meh” between the torps. I do like both the Soviet and German gunboats but I see a lot of fletchers out there so I’m a bit on the fence. Which would you choose?
I have a fully upgraded Z52 and this thing is a bully. A big and brutal bully. It simply murders DDs like Gearing with that hard-hitting AP. I once drove a stock Tashkent and suddenly a fully upgraded Z23 appeared and simply tore me apart, it was not even close. You also get sonar, which I find highly useful (although opinions on that differ), better maneuverability, better concealment, and much better torps than Khaba. They may look meh, but they reload sooooo fast and you can actually stealthtorp. And you can cap. On the other side, Khaba is the better overall gunboat, as it has strong AP and HE, unlike Z52 with its trash HE. Gearing can do everything well, it is simply not the best at anything. If you want to shoot all day, go Khaba. If you like a methodic approach, go Z52, and cut down the enemy team one by one. If you enjoy the average destroyer playstyle, go Gearing or Yueyang. I wouldn't recommend the IJN DDs, Shima is in my opinion quite one-dimensional at times, since you cannot always get into positions where you can put your torps to good use. And believe me, being permaspotted by planes or other DDs is no fun at all, especially since your gunpower is nonexistent. Harugumo has a huge damage potential (and I mean huge) against BBs, but the problem is that it is very vulnerable not only against cruisers and CVs, but also against gunboat DDs. Due to its very large size and high shell arcs, Z52 and Khaba will either outtrade you at long range or torp you at close range. Overall, Z52 is probably the best, if it has smoke and sonar up it can defeat even Khaba. You also spam torps all day, which is a lot of fun. The HE is weak but nevertheless try to use it against BBs. Since your AP is so strong, however, you can shoot it at the bow or stern of BBs, it will deal a huge amount of damage.
Saving titanium for her or musashi. But I like cruisers. And love Graf Spee. And Eugen. And German BBs. So I think I will like her. But I can't see not liking Musashi if I get her
German ships!..One of my favourites tech-tree after the Japanese one....about this ship..Well...I did not get her even if I wanted but....you know...the Shipyard is reshuffling and I am really curious about the new ships...by the way I love your videos!
Thanks :) I'm generally careful with tier 9 premiums, they're rather expensive resource-wise, and tier 9 isn't a very forgiving tier to play. Also very curious about the new set of ships.
Thanks, much appreciated! I don't have a PC to run Wows on, otherwise I'd have played it myself :) My son has "Legends" on the XBox, maybe I'll give that a spin at some point.
The Cesare is a fun ship, but I'm sure we'll get some other interesting ones with the rollover, and she does show up from time to time in events, key crates etc.
Omg I'm so late. Quick everyone pretend I was early 😂 anyhow...... ah yes the Siegfried the German tier 9 Cruiser? Battle cruiser? Light Cruiser......ahhahahhaahh😂 definitely not Heavy cruiser........nah Battleship........nope A random ship that is a little bit of everything except a CV............BINGO
That reminds me, I have to review the Ise. Now there's a "why not both" meme... But this thing feels a lot more like a BB. Certainly drives like one. Don't try to take on DDs, going ah-ha! Got you now, I'm in a cruiser! And then watch them effortlessly outrun your turret traverse and dunk a load of torps into your side.
@@FunandGameswithTerry trust me I have no intentions to hunt any destroyer in this thing. The Siegfried doesn't just play like a BB it basically is a BB. It's fucking Huge.
I made a quib on the missing third barrel of the secondaries, calling them "secret Nazi stealth barrels", since the description classifies them as triple turrets, but they are, in fact, twins. I tried playing on the sometimes outlandish "Wunderwaffen" (miracle weapons) / UFO tech claims associated with that period. The O-class were in fact commissioned as part of Plan Z, agreed upon by Hitler and Raeder, some time in late '39, so the final design specs fall well into the period of Germany being under control by the NSDAP - the older "Deutschland" class were indeed built in part of the Reichsmarine still. I wouldn't call it a "Nazi ship", since the ship itself had no political affiliation, but she was certainly built during the period of the Third Reich, commonly called "Nazi Germany" in English.
@@FunandGameswithTerry thanks for taking the time to answer, since you obviously made a joke I have no problem with this at all. I'm well aware of the history of the Kriegsmarine during the period when hitler was at the helm of Germany. As an Austrian, I simply don't like it when the term Nazi is used to describe Germans during this time. British admirals held their German counterparts in high regard, for example Admirals Tovey and Fraser praised Bismarck and Scharnhorst and their crews for putting up a courageous fight against a superior force, with Admiral Fraser telling his officers that he hoped they would act just as gallantly if things were reversed.
Jeez.. So what.. My grandfather was on scheer, his brother in law on nuermberg and his other brother on a sub which dud not make it.. They all were 'party' members as it was basically compulsory. That does not mean they agreed on the leadership but they loved the sea and wanted to see the world. In general our back then navy tried to find the fine line between following orders and keep their humanity.... The biggest enemy and ally was and is the sea... This keeps all seafaring nations together
I haven't played the Hindenburg yet, but these are Bismarck mains with a 15s reload. Shredding cruisers is what she's for. The 203s can probably not reliably pen her, either - at range, at least.
Actually, shipyard ships are reward premiums. You should be able to unlock some via resources collected from honour missions and the free pass rewards (might take a while, though, I haven't done the math)
@@FunandGameswithTerry i am not aware if currently there are any ships with honor missions that give titaniums as rewards for accomplishing the goals. Should it be even available, the quantity earned per free pass and completed honor missions is deliberately set to never be sufficient to get target shipyard ships before the next shipyard rotations. Also, free blitz pass almost never gives titaniums. The shipyard rotation is meant to pressurize players who want something from the shipyard to open gamble boxes for each respective required resources.
