I drove 350 miles to Hamvention, and all I got was about 500 pounds of old electronics gear and radios for free from next to the dumpsters. I bought a new voting controller, and an old set of cans, and my friends and I used the free radios from next to the dumpsters and built an emergency ham repeater system for Genesee County, MI.
Nice haul, Great on the Kenwood squelch I got a radio used and the squelch didn't work, took me some time and I found one of the terminals on the squelch potentiometer wasn't all the way through the circuit board so a touch with a hot solder iron and push with a screwdriver tip pushed it through where the other two terminals angles matched and a dab of solder to hold it in there and fixed it. good luck.
Hayden: Looks like you are still suffering Jet Lag! We know the feeling! While you were at Hamvention, we were in Hawaii. We sailed to most of the islands and spent a couple of days at each port. Then we sailed for 6 days to Victoria, BC and then to Vancouver, BC before flying home. We have been home a week and we are still suffering Jet Lag. Our 5 Time Zone difference pails in comparison to your’s. I hope you get readjusted quicker than we have!
Haha could you tell? The jet lag is not as bad coming back as it was heading over. Hope you had a great time on your holiday too! It’s one of those things, you don’t want to stall your holiday to rest up, but now I’ve learnt it’s better to rest up for a day than push ahead.
It kept sitting there calling my name everytime I walked past it for three days, I couldn’t ignore it late on Sunday it was screaming from the shipping box the guy was ready to take it home in, he had to unpack it all to get to it 😂
OMG, a Kenwood TM-D710 for $350US?!? I've been waiting for one to be on sale for less than $600 and have yet to find one. What a steal! Can't believe it lasted til the end of Hamvention at that price.
I like all your selections. I also got the deal on the FT5D But it was on line (not as cheap as you got it). I like C4FM I might hear your on one the wiresX reflectors. All the other videos you guys did at Hamvention were great. 73
Holy dooley, so much swag, stickers and new toys. Review it all. :) I'm jealous but happy for you, I think all the US folks looked after you and made sure you had a blast.👍🤠
Your Hamvention videos were the best of the event! Very envious of your sticker/hat/swag collection. Please do some videos showing your repeater improvements with the BP filters and voter unit being installed. Thanks for bringing the event to those of us unable to get there! Hopefully next year!
Nice haul, Hayden its a bonus to get those rare products from such a large hamvention, something we don't really see down here in the south pacific, looking forward to the reviews on those purchases you got. 73 from ZL2FT.
i picked up a TYT th9800 for $20 from a local hamfest.. because they couldn't power it properly.. if there are quirks i don't mind for cheaper than a baofeng ht ... 2nd hand gear FTW!!!

Looks like a great haul! And, it looks like you an amazing time!
Still on a high from it!
I used my ICOM metal tag as a luggage ID :)
Ahhhh!!! My luggage had ham radio stickers plastered on it. Fantastic to spot it on the carousel
Crikey! That is quite a haul. Jim should have stickers with the normal layout but with a big red BLEEP over the top.

Cool, I might disassemble the head. Maybe a dodgy pot like you say
The DX Engineering catalog is the cat's meow.
"Like I'm playing cards with my brothers kids" is from the movie Tombstone with Kurt Russel, Val Kilmer, and Sam Elliot... Great Movie.
Ahhhh right. I haven't seen it... I rarely watch movies these days
Videos on: signal stick, 2m BPF, FT5D, and Rig expert please

Nice collection. Ft5dr is a decent radio, even better at that price point. Glad you enjoyed the journey and experience with all the 'seppos'...lol
Love the hand signatured QSL CARD from Carlos. 💯👌
Fantastic!
BFFs 🫶
Nice find on the TM-D710A
It kept sitting there calling my name everytime I walked past it for three days, I couldn’t ignore it late on Sunday it was screaming from the shipping box the guy was ready to take it home in, he had to unpack it all to get to it 😂
Cool stuff Hayden, you obviously had an awesome time at Hamvention.👍
Awesome time, I still have a few more videos to release about HV, everyone is gonna be sick of them 😂

It was $500 until the guy was packing it up and I offered him $350 to save him bringing it home.
Nice wee haul, well done. I've never actually been to any type of ham meet of any description. 73.

Yeah we're gonna do a video or a stream on C4FM and that radio. I've never used it before so I should learn a thing or two!

Thanks Adam, will do!
Hope you can make it next year
Good laud! That's a lot of stuff you brought back.
I didn’t realize until I lugged the bag onto the scales at the airport and went… ooohhh
I have a D710A one issue is also no GPS reciever built in. You must use a external GPS mine came with one.
Yes. I have a GPS that I can use for it. Actually, I think I even have the cable I once built for one I used to own! I must go searching for that

Thanks Jason, yes there will be a video or two, or three....or more lol
Good buy on the ft5....I have a hunch they are replacing it and the 891 soon
Yes, we had the same feeling
You almost had to buy another plane ticket just for your items! Nice haul Hayden 👍
😂
Great series of videos Hayden. What size shirts do you wear? I might have one or two to send your way!
G'day Bob,
Either a medium or large - depending on the sizing (as it varies!)
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.

I am looking for a 20 meter band pass filter. Do you have any recommendations?
DX Engineering may sell some?

How about a review on the FT5?
I’m mad I didn’t pick up an FT5D when I was there!
It was a bargain!
Would love to see that Kenwood opened up. Do you have the same frequency allocations as the US, or do you have to modify those US radios?
No same allocations. I believe the only difference *may* be below 440, but it’s not like EU where it’s 146-148
@@HamRadioDX Europe is 144-146 and 430-440
@@mikemc4759 Yes that's right. Sorry that's the problem with me replying at 5:30am in the morning
a lot of good stuff !👍👍👍👍👍
Dude that Kenwood is a STEAL! Nice scores!
Thanks Carlos
Now that you have a c4fm radio, VK7RAD is awaiting your call 😝
Yes.... Should I read the manual?
@@HamRadioDX who does that? 🤔
@@ScottEvans-vk7hse You're right... it is weird to read the manual
Damn, I forgot to give you my sticker when we met!
All good mate!
good deals.
Did Chuck take the train with you from San Francisco to Chicago?
No he flew, probably business class 😂
Nice!🥰👍
No QMX?
Nope, I didn’t get the chance to meet Hans.. in fact I actually don’t know where he was setup… maybe we past him in the livestream of the inside??
That Jim has an 11 meter mouth
