When you have a volunteer army, abuse can't be on the agenda. When the economy is in good shape and young men can find jobs, abuse cannot be on the agenda. And to be honest, abuse should never have been on the agenda. Look, I get it. I enlisted before most of you guys' parents were even born. But times were different then. Things have changed. The service has to adapt or die, just like everyone else. If you feel that fear and abuse is the proper way to motivate *volunteers* you're probably in the wrong career.
just finished bct, it was great. We talked about our feelings and braided each other's hair. When I failed to do 10 push ups and was a little upset, drill sergeant brought me some hot chocolate and a puppy to pet. CBRN defense masks now not only protect from chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear, but also toxic comments and bad words. During the combatives we just hugged and tickled each other. 10/10 would train to kill again.
When they gave everyone Black Berets as a standard uniform and changed the Ranger's color to Tan was the moment I knew the future of the Army was Fuckface all the time.
Kindler gentler Army. That was fazing in when i was in basic back in the late 80’s. At ft. Benning. GA. But it was all hells bells and cattle trucks and 50’s going off. This is why I got out I couldn’t stand how soft the army was getting and I couldn’t do anything to put some discipline into the shitbags that I just wanted to skull fuck
when i was Drill Sergeanting at Jackson, they took shark attacks away for the last few cycles I had there (2013). when the word of that "good idea" came down from above it went down almost exactly like this video.
I just went through basic training and it’s so easy to graduate, it’s kinda annoying. Many people that half assed basic training and didn’t meet “graduation requirements” still went through, when I met every requirement and busted my ass to pass the acft. We call it baby basic training.
I been watching your videos before I enlisted and just finished AIT as Covid19 really started earlier this year. All this new stuff makes no sense to me glad I joined last year.
I am an old Infantry guy. Earned my cord as an enlisted guy and as an officer after OCS. Benning is sacred to me. Sand Hill and Harmony Church were the forges the Army honed Infantry soldiers in. Every soldier needs a ass kicking, they need to feel heat, pressure and suck of being a soldier. With the Transgender sensitivity, female infantry, stress cards, no shark attack and marshmallow mentality there's no wonder we have trouble recruiting. Love you guys videos. I saw recently that nearly 75% of kids that want to join the military don't meet the fitness standards to join. What the hell... oh, and I was called "Pig Shit" nearly everyday! I still think its kind of funny I got used to it
My days in infantry basic. Privates were getting slammed, punched, kicked, cursed at, always taught to kill, no one cared about feelings, cupcakes were beating on by other recruits, and we still helped each other out as a platoon.
@@danielpickrell8311 They're stripping power because the people in charge now were beaten and kicked, which is not a valid training method. @@orion8981 I was at Harmony Church in 82. The barracks were cold and drafty, but we stayed in the field. I got my butt kicked in OSUT, Airborne and RIP. It’s a right of passage for combat soldiers.

I felt like NOTHING could touch us if we suffered that much!!!
I still remember my first day of basic training 35 years ago, in a crowded cattle truck and heavily loaded, arriving at the barracks... Senior Drill Sergeant Champaco "welcoming us"... I can't believe he'd ever say, "Please" and or "Thank-you" to a trainee. Just LMAO thinking about this.

We arrived at Fort Knox, Kentucky at zero dark thirty in March of 1977. The drill Sergeants screamed and yelled at us, calling us names that I did not know existed at that time. I must have pushed the world away at least 100 times that morning, and did not finish initial reception processing until dawn, and only then were we allowed a couple of hours of sack time before being rudely awakened to a full day of the same treatment. That is how my basic training began and continued for 13 weeks until graduation. Please tell me that U.S. Army basic training has not become a pleasure resort for candy ass pukes! If this is so, we will never win another war again.
They still scream and yell and call you names at Fort Knox, they just make sure no ones looking before they do. As for doing pushups, they're technically limited but they get around that by making you "Practice" doing 40, then you do your actual 40. TO BE FAIR, I went through the Cadet Command side of things so my training wasn't nearly as long as full Basic Training - but believe me when I say things have changed but only when someone is looking.
Yeah, no. That simply doesn't work anymore. It only works when the economy is tanked and young men have the option of joining the service or starving. The service needs to find a new way to motivate people to actually want to do these things. Fear is no longer a motivator, because this is a volunteer army.
@@Quakeboy02 The young Men I know, who are enlisting, are not doing so out of fear or starvation. They are all employed, but are looking for something else to do with their lives. I was also a volunteer in '77. I am just concerned about the apparent lack of rigorous discipline I see when viewing modern basic training videos. Letting up on these guys (and gals) will not help them keep a Russian or Chinese paratrooper's bayonet out of their bellies in a future conflict!
The sand hill shark attack was my fondest memory of basic! Well that, And the giant water roach stuck behind the plexiglass of 30th ag dfac (still see it right by the tank).
Oh they're talking about when you first get off the bus going to basic. Drill smashed my bus window with me looking out it, then one DS came on board, " welcome to fort Benning" very nicely, then got off then another one got on and started screaming at us. It was hilarious then and still hilarious now. Shark attacks are part of the culture of the military and are required for basic.
I completed BCT at Benning in 2002, 4 months later was chaptered out for anxiety disorder. The point is even though i was in that condition I still completed BCT. It was a challenge but it was manageable, lowering standards doesnt seem like a good idea
Unfortunately, this is probably accurate. However, as a zoomer who plans on grabbing an 11x contract eventually, I would still like to say that I *strongly* disagree with the army's choice to so severely soften the bootcamp experience. Boot camp is, as far as I can tell, intended to weed out individuals with low stress capacity, poor physical fitness, and those with a lack of the ability to learn, or better yet, those that lack the ability to *adapt* to new environments under stress, before any of them can waste too many goverment dollars, while also drilling basic soldiering tasks enough that privates can perform them well enough before entering AIT. Since I see boot camp in this way, it is only natural that I strongly disagree with, no, abhor these changes.
These standards are created by the 1990s and 2000s douchebags who stuck around long enough. It's hardly a representation of the force as a whole. Yes, there are problems that need correcting, but *for now* we aren't completely fucked. Give it a decade and maybe. Or maybe those of us sticking around will fix this shit since we complain so much.
@@sakaue Has BCT become softer? Infantry OSUT is what, 27 weeks now. Since 2018 it's been extended to give BCT recruits more time to train on small unit tactics and weapons proficiency. Can't speak for other MOS's, but infantry has gotten much better.
Apparently I was in the last BCT cycle for the shark attack. It really is a shame because it really sets the pace for BCT. Seeing your battle buddies getting dropped for their tiny mistakes really makes you straighten yourself out so the DS won't have to.
To be fair, the IDF doesn't do all the yelling and insults that we do and they see way more combat on average. So, it can work. Had a former IDF Soldier with combat experience in my Army basic that didn't understand why we did it that way.
@@vik12D Israeli's are motivated by survival. Our Infantry are not. If Israeli Soldiers go home; They lose their home If one of ours goes home; He's simply home. There's a thousand other Joes to take his spot and he can quit any time. Israeli's don't get that luxury and don't need that chaos and discipline instilled. As per combat experienced; That varies.
The British army doesnt do much shouting either (at least for the reserves). The general feedback from the low amount of shouting is that you have more respect for the instructors treating you as adults and are more likely to take in the info.
The "please and thank you" bit got me. The only times I recall Drill Sergeants ever saying please it was at the beginning to a challenge, as in "Please do that so I have an excuse to end your sorry existence."
In the british army, the polite way works out. Theres a documentary on the british officer academy, i forgot what its called. The mentors usually speak quite politely to their recruits. However, they may of course call them a bloody fuckface when they mess up big time.
Agreed. The British army keeps shouting for stupidity. When in school, do the teachers constantly shout and belittle the students? Or do they speak calmly and try to help? I wonder why that is...
The sad thing is, when then higher ups aren't seeing the results set by the previous standards the first people they'll blame are the NCO's that've been reigned in. I don't envy their jobs rn, I'm sure they'll adapt but this highlights the lack of coms or straight up ignorance in the chain of command for training establishments
Glad i got to experience the REAL BCT, did real training in my years in, and got a tour under my belt in 🇦🇫 , did my time and got out before the military turned into this
Next., combat training will be reworked to "Friendly-Therapy Classes" and the trainees will be taught to de-escalate the situation when they meet the enemy head-on, on the battlefield. Offering the enemy food for weapons and things like that. Its pretty much a given that the enemy will just hand over their weapons and go home, relieved they won't have to fight anyone. That's how it works according to Democrats who pretty much support this kind of thinking. Could they be wrong? Nah. (cough)

I just went through basic training and it’s so easy to graduate, it’s kinda annoying. Many people that half assed basic training and didn’t meet “graduation requirements” still went through, when I met every requirement and busted my ass to pass the acft. We call it baby basic training.

Sadly it’s changed
When went through, it was a kick in the dick most days. Getting smoked for just farting in formation. 3 hours of leg tucks and iron mikes.

I strangely feel like the standards are new because the 2000s/2010s generation are gonna be that generation where they gotta be softer on.
