    I took l-glutamine for over a year bc I thought I had leaky gut. When my digestion got better I stopped it. It's been about a year since I took it, but I'm having a lot of the digestion problems again; mainly heartburn & bloating. I also seem to be unable to stop eating wrong foods!
    I've been having brain fog, constant pain and an inability to get off my couch or make decisions.
    I'm about to start l-glutamine again as I think I MUST need more than I get. I like most of the foods you listed, I just don't eat much bc of my digestion.
    I never realized it could have such an impact on thinking, so want to thank you for this info. I've listened to you for YEARS, but rarely see you anymore on my feed.

    L-glutamine: so many good things for the brain and body. Max upper dosage is 50-60 grams per day. We just started on 3 to 4 scoops per day. Taking for weight issues, but now discovering so many good things from this humble amino acid.

    When is the better time to take l glutamine? Before bed, on empty stomach, on morning, during a meal?

    • @NootropicsExpert
      @NootropicsExpert  3 роки тому +5

      If you are using it to boost athletic performance and speed recovery, both forms of L-glutamine are best taken right before or after a workout. Using it with small meals before or after your workout session can help support your metabolism and weight loss goals. And will assist in muscle building, recovery and maintenance.
      Other than that you can use it anytime and get the benefits described in this video..

    Hello! I suffer from idiopathic chronic constipation , not related to eating habits, lack of hydration or exercise. After seeing 2 gastroenterologist and one colorectal surgeon with very little results. I decided to see a functional doctor. One of the supplements she recommended to take is l glutamine powder. I always do research on what I take and I read that l glutamine can cause constipation. In fact that is how I found your video. I see that you say is very rare but well I am now hesitant to take it.
    What are your thoughts about someone already constipated taking this? Thanks

    • @NootropicsExpert
      @NootropicsExpert  10 місяців тому +3

      The only way to find out if this is true for you is to try the supplement. What's the worst that can happen? You'll be constipated? You are already there so that's not much of a change. But imagine if it solved your problem? Don't let your fear stop you from doing a little experimenting because it feels really, really good to feel better. :-)

    Will l glutamine cause me to have seizures? I want to supplement for gut health, but I'm scared. I currently take lamotrigine 100mg for epilepsy but in my opinion, it doesn't work and hasn't worked ever.. I have seizures around the menstrual cycle and my Dr says he's never heard of that so he don't believe me 🤦🏾‍♀️😢
    Also, I'm wondering if l carnitine causes seizures too because everytime I've used it, I've had a seizure?? - gym training - I'm trying to better my health and fitness.
    Should I be avoiding l carnitine?

    • @NootropicsExpert
      @NootropicsExpert  3 роки тому +2

      Debbie, if you are prone to seizures you should avoid using L-Glutamine and carnitine including Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALCAR). Because using either of them could result in you having seizures.
      If you want to heal a leaky gut check out some of the supplements I mention in this video: ua-cam.com/video/r38OSqyPvyM/v-deo.html. Because what applies for a leaky brain also applies for a leaky gut.

    • @NootropicsExpert
      @NootropicsExpert  3 роки тому +5

      If that isn't working and has never worked it means you don't have a problem with GABA. It is caused by a dysfunction of something else. And the only way to figure it out is try other precursors. See my newest video on anxiety for how to do it.

    So since this is not recommended when you have any form of cancer since it encourages tumour growth this is very worrying as well as confusing. Cancers are apparently occurring in our bodies all the time but normally our metabolism deals with it. Would taking L glutamine then encourage these latent tumours to develop? Also I read somewhere that when you are receiving chemo taking L glutamine can alleviate some of the awful side effects from that treatment. What you are saying suggests that you shouldn't be taking it at all when you have cancer. All this conflicting information is extremely confusing. What would you say to this ?

    • @NootropicsExpert
      @NootropicsExpert  2 роки тому +3

      Christine, it's much more complicated than that. If you want to take a deep dive into the study of glutamine metabolism and cancer cells try getting through this: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/articles/PMC5746034/
      The bottom line is supplementing with Glutamine does NOT cause cancer. if it did, all the athletes who use L-Glutamine to boost Human Growth Hormone would be all dying of cancer. And that is not the case.

    Is it true to take B12 if you’re taking glutamine long term to keep glutamate in check? Sorry if I missed it in the video

    • @NootropicsExpert
      @NootropicsExpert  3 роки тому +2

      I don't think you missed it in the video because I didn't include it. But animal studies show that Vitamin B12 increases GABA which then decreases glutamate (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9249572/).
      The cycle glutamine/glutamate/GABA must be in balance. If glutamate or glutamine or GABA gets elevated it messes with this balance and bad things can happen.
      The easiest way to keep this in balance if using L-Glutamine long-term is to also supplement with GABA. If that alone does not do it then add Vitamin B12 or a high quality B-Complex.
