    What do you think... is it worth it running a lightning node? Let me know!

    • @chopsuey69
      @chopsuey69 3 роки тому +6

      Absolutely. If not for the money right now, it will be in the future for sure. But it's worth it for the knowledge as well ; everything you learn from it setting it up ; the supporting of the network and to make Bitcoin accessible for everyone. Revolution incoming.

      100%. The LN is getting bigger by a lot. Beeing an important Node will pay out for sure.
      Right now I dont ask nearly any fees. And only the support for the network is payment enougth.

      Right now for the reason of pure altruism only lol. With your help I'm hoping to change that because from what I understand right now, a profitable node actually will route a lot more traffic. Technically indefinitely, and that in my opinion is much better for the network as a whole.

      Never ran a node but I'm willing to learn to determine if i can push the envelope with higher pricing and run more transactions. Perhaps a lesser known coin needing more operators is a way into this niche market like ZEN on the Horizen Network. Not sure if ZEN is the same but I own almost enough coin to Node but not e involved in transactions but I'm still learning what is expected of operators and how to grow the biz. Part of my reasoning is to compete but it also depends on how much time is involved and if my assets are suitable and I can allocate resources. I also need to better understand why some are earning so low with btc so high and are more people needed or is the node market saturated.

      While it may not be immediately profitable, I can see where it could be beneficial in the long run.
      As a hobby miner, I always have a bit of liquidity ($45/week) which I could easily tie up in a lightning node

    I really like your content, but running a UA-cam channel about Lightning is probably more profitable than running a node itself for the foreseeable future. Just saying.

    So, I think I was asking the wrong question - the question should be how much does it cost to run a lightening node? Also, is $1000 in BTC enough to get started with (as I may want to have multiple nodes in the future)?

    I use to mine back in the Antminer S3 days.. Now just have a couple little solo miners and looking routing as a way to make a little money and just something to be a general geek with, i'm crippled up from two strokes and other health issues, so just trying to figure out how this side of crypto works. I have umbrel on a HP mini PC and a full node run including inbound connections.. So any idea that would point my to making lighting start to pay would be great. not expecting miracles,, just would be nice to see a bit coming in...

  • @paralellosll3849
    @paralellosll3849 9 місяців тому

    But the lightning network fees don't replace the bitcoin network fees; do they? I assume you still have to pay the miners to push that transaction into the next block. If you can do this and get around the miners fees we should be able to create fee-less system. There could be node wallets, which are wallets held (directly associated with) an active full node. Node wallet to node wallet transactions are fee free while simple wallets still attract network fees. This would incentivise everyone to run their own full node, thus further decentralising and securing the network. Then we'd have fast, free, and secure transactions.

    What happens to the fees when there are multiple hops? Will the user pay (as an example) 250 ppm * 6 if there are 6 hops each one charging 250 ppm? This becomes expensive and losses the whole point of the LN isn't it?

    • @josephl4176
      @josephl4176 2 роки тому

      its 6 different fees from 6 different nodes. so if one has 250ppm fee then the rest will be added to that initial 250ppm.

    Ppm is such an untuitive unit. Why not just use percentages?!

    • @Bitcoinftm

      Because you’d be talking about 0.0001% in the case of lightning, which is annoying and harder to say than 100ppm
