The construction is completely different, so I don't think so. But it's a fairly simple concept so I wouldn't be surprised if it was developed twice independently. I bet if we look hard enough we can fnd more cultures where houses followed a comparable scheme. The only known Viking presence in America was all the way up in Newfoundland. If the Vikings had contact with any Iroquious, it was probably superficial through trade.
How does the wattle and daub smell? Cause if it's made with dung I imagine it wouldn't be that nice but if they used it for as long as they did, I imagine it couldn't have been that bad!

I was asking the question because I was trying to do research in to Viking settlers in the UK and how they would live. my comment was not hateful, nasty or derogatory in any way only an observation made to go with the question I was asking of the highly educated people specialising in this kind of building because since they built it I thought they might know the answer as I assume they have researched Viking houses before they built one. Hi Victoria, it depends if it was a city house or a farm house. The size of family houses, 5 x 12 meters was very normal, but it varied a lot. The always shared thing was the fireplace in the middle of the house; it was there people had the daily life cooking, eating, sleeping and telling stories in the evening time. In wintertime the inner temperature was around 12 degrees, it was an art form to control the heat without creating too much smoke in the process. Over the beds / benches alongside the walls there were broad wooden “shelfs” which helped to rise the temperature where people were sitting / sleeping. Normally the houses were one big room but sometimes there were one max. two rooms located at the gable ends. If it was a farm or a collection of farms, small houses was located around the family house for production of various things, here wool were made into fabric, wood work was made, and the blacksmith was working in the house farthest away. Hoped that helped a bit. Forget about that probably 12 year old Swedish guy embarrassing himself.

It looks like there are openings at the roof peaks (ex. 1:55) for the smoke to exit.

Toq The Wise Dried dung doesnt really smell all that much...
Once it's dried out, there's no smell at all and if it's properly maintained, it'll last for hundreds of years and more.
