Oh that was terrific to wake up to. Im 61. I’ll probably never get to the places over there I’ve wanted to. I’m Irish and Scottish with Viking in me. Always drawn to, and thrilled by, that area. If i wver do get there, ill go to that village. Finding out that the gift -shop goods are hand made by a bloke doing the blacksmithing like they used to was incredible. I would buy those things for sure. Thats was a lovely tour. Thank you

As someone who never thought they would experience many different lands, even at a young 61, please don’t rule it out. Xo

Alright, I won’t then mate. And seeing as how you have the same name as me (Suzy) i will take that as a sign that i might just get to some places. Thanks so much for your kind reply

I can't get over how fortunate "we" are to have you on this trip and for you to be sharing it with us. There has been more than one, I'm sure, but I'd call this an experience of a lifetime. Thanks, Chris!

History has tended to paint the Norse as nothing more than bloodthirsty marauders, a reputation of which they were fully aware (and maaaybe even a little proud). But what many fail to realize is just how ingenious they were. They were skilled navigators, relying on the stars for guidance. Their knowledge of the sea combined with their curious nature ultimately led them well out of their Scandinavian homelands for the decidedly exotic shores of the Mediterranean, Ireland and the British Isles, the island that would one day be home to a country called Iceland and, ultimately, to North America, specifically Greenland and Canada. Their longships were the height of maritime technology of the day. And their craftsmanship, particularly in wood and iron, was exquisite, a talent that seems to have carried over to their Icelander, Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish descendants. They were a truly remarkable people, a European culture caught in that transitional period from Antiquity to Medieval that all too often gets overlooked. Great video, man. I'm glad the Norwegians have peeled back the veil of time and given us this tiny sliver of Viking life for us to visit and enjoy.

I traced my family on my father's side back to Norsemen. The furthest back I could track was a Leroy Denorseman around 1100 (ironically) AD.

Sognefjorden will be destroyed by at least three wind power plants in the coming years. We go there next week to start photographing it down. Next summer we go to France, then we settle by Sognefjorden to photograph it all down. When done, we settle in France.
