Yeah, I like those, too! It's a fun soundtrack! And yeah, the roomy sound is actually touch of reverb (chamber, iirc) added in post. It's nice, though I'm fascinated to hear the greater fidelity of the 3-track sessions without it. 😁
Will there be a complete sessions Box Set from FTD in the very near future that you know off?? Or do we have to wait for yrs?? Really like this soundtrack. Always had a soft spot with me. Thanks for this review. 👍.
They need to pull Elvis voice back in the mix on this album,it sounds like the bands in the other room! My picks for best songs from this are "so close, yet so far" and "kismet"! My brother played a show with Charlie McCoy years ago and i know he enjoyed the"Elvis Country" sessions more than the ones for this album!😂
Hi Jamie and John , how are you buddies ? this is Lior from Israel, i do have this FTD , and im with you Jamie, give all the takes of this soundtrack, i love each song , it was my first LP vinyl i bought when i was around 10 or 11 years old, so best memories from this, by the way i do prefer the sound mix of the Double Feature CD , more clear, punchy, you can hear every instrument and its not dry like the original release, also love the picture sleeve ;) have a great day , Sincerely Lior
Great video guys, i hope they will release a complete session of this at some point. It does need better mastering and sound quality, if i recall there's actually two drummers in the studio on these sessions and Elvis is backed up by the finest musicians from nashville. I think previous outtings havent done the songs justice in terms of sound. Btw for the best sounding masters the bootleg Avventura in Oriente by Victrola is the go to.
Thank you so much! And I agree, this would be a great session to hear, especially with proper mixing/mastering! And yes on two drummers: D.J. and Kenneth Butteey. 😁 And very interesting.. the best masters? I'll have to check that out!
@@EAPSociety let me know your thoughts on it as i am very interested in your findings. I find that avventura has the best mix and actually does show what amazing musicians these guys were even with substandard material
The outtakes to me sound great. I know it’s fashionable to bash this movie but if you put it in context of other similar movies from the 60s this one and other Elvis movies are decent. It’s not like you can compare it with a movie like this to Cool Hand Luke but when comparing Harum Scarum and other Elvis movies from this time to other light musicals Elvis’ movies are all better than the average. I think this is actually a pretty decent easy listening album. I still think it was a good move by Elvis not trying to compete with some of what was happening musically at the time. Just my opinion but I think a Elvis did a great job these songs. A song like So Close, Yet So Far (FromParadise) is a favorite of mine. Elvis cracking up on some of the outtakes is just fun to listen to. I believe this was recorded at studio B in Nashville so I’m with Jamie, give us everything recorded. I’m sure the sound is great. It’s cool hearing Elvis do a line of the song More during the outtakes. As always great review and observations on these FTD albums
🙏 Finally my dearest Clients 😁 I LOVE this Soundtrack Album (plus all of my worldwide RCA Victor Releases, FTD and the Bootleg Vinyl/CD Releases) i must confess: I'm a 100% HARUM SCARUM aka HAREM HOLIDAY Fan! A USA only BluRay Disc Release will be available on July 31, 2024, i can't wait and i'm NOT joking! I guess i have about 6 original different Movie-Posters in my Collection. The Original German Movie Poster (titled "Verschollen im Harem" please google the Poster it's the BEST Movie Poster ever😉) is nicley framed and hanging in our Anteroom👌👍✌️!!! Thank You John and Jamie! @Jamie, why not wearing your "Johnny Tyronne" Outfit?! "Rusty Wells" fashion was a year before 😂
That's awesome, Harald! And I love the reference! And I can't wait for the bluray, either! And you're right - I should have grabbed the costume! John and I were on a bit of a roll that day (26 videos!) and I didn't want to break up the momentum since we had limited time to film (Dec 2023). But after this last batch of filming (which goes up to season 4), we'll be working ahead enough that we can space things out a bit more again. 😁
@@EAPSociety...🤔 what a "cheap" excuse Jamie! Elvis never wore the same Jumpsuit for the Afternoon and Evening Shows! OK, maybe Elvis sweated a little bit more...😂 i'm just kiddin' Jamie😉 @ since 3(!) Weeks we have +35⁰ Celsius here in Vienna, Austria plus Tropic Nights Temperatures; it's sooo damn hot🥵 (btw The Copacabana in Brazil has "frosty" +25⁰ Celsius)
@haraldtrittner4396 LOL! Harald, I love it! And I hear you on the heat - Ronda and I went to a meeting she had at an outdoor park on Sunday, and it was 93.. *before* factoring humidity! Just crazy! So definitely try to stay cool if/when you can! 😁
Would have been nice if FTD would have had a practice of just giving us a clean dry copy of the tapes on these CD's, after all they are a "collectors" label instead of all this filtering & eq'd garbage, thinking their taste in sound is suppose to be ours too. Just give us direct copies of the tape because I'm quite sure most of us have computers and the software to rip and do our own editing and eq'ing if someone really wants it to sound like these finished releases, which I doubt. So add Harum Scarum to another "miss" at getting a copy of another FTD that hasn't been tainted once again. Maybe one day before the tapes deteriorate completely or if we live long enough we might get some of the Elvis catalogue the way Elvis heard it in the studio instead of all this digitizing BS.
I second clean copies of the tapes! I will say that, even though many fans have computers, 99.99% of the software that's affordable to fans isn't nearly of the same quality as the professional ones, so many folks - even collectors - would probably like a little sweetening at least. But I'm definitely in the "just give me the raw tape" camp!
This one. Great. Video. Guys true cool ftd album great film
Thank you, Nigel!
Harem Holiday is my go to song when I go on vacation 😅 loll
'Wisdom Of The Ages' and 'Hey Little Girl' are my two keepers from the album - preferably in the more 'roomy' outtakes.
Yeah, I like those, too! It's a fun soundtrack! And yeah, the roomy sound is actually touch of reverb (chamber, iirc) added in post. It's nice, though I'm fascinated to hear the greater fidelity of the 3-track sessions without it. 😁
The outtakes sound FAR better than the masters. Listen to Kenneth Buttry’s drums on the outtakes of the title song. They sound awesome.
Hi, Tony! You're absolutely right - even if I would have mastered it differently, it still is leaps above the flat sound on the masters! 😁

Really like this soundtrack. Always had a soft spot with me. Thanks for this review. 👍.
Hi, Woody! I'd LOVE to see a sessions box for this one, but no idea if it's in the works soon or not, sadly!
One of my top 3 soundtracks.⚡️
Wow, that's neat! Which others round out the top 3 for you?

Thank you! And I 100% agree on the movie, it's a fun one - plus, you're right, it *was* recorded at Studio B!
I Like some songs with this 'east' touch, that Elvis recorded. In fact is more rock than hawaiian or mexican style musics. Cheers from Brazil!
That's very true! And I agree! 😁 Hello to you, and Brazil!

I prefer the bongo drum of Hey Little Girl movie version
Hi, Henry! I can definitely understand that! Here's hoping we have a clean track of that via the upcoming bluray!
Animal Instinct is the only memorable track for me. Good tune
Yeah, that's definitely a favorite! I do love "So Close, Yet So Far From Paradise," too, though. 😁
So close yet so far - for me is the best track on the album and a great ballad !!!!!
@hotjiveman Yeah, the dramatic build is really cool!
Terrible movie and sound track
