    Nice work, looking forward to more Jewellery tips with the Nomad since RIo Grande are now stocking them. I use mine for machining Wax models for lost wax casting. I have also machined Signet ring intaglios and more recently the Georgia state profile in 1.7mm Sterling Silver as stud earrings gift for my wife.

      For anyone that wants to download it, do a google image search for "Eagle SVG". We pulled this one off Wikipedia!

    I'm new to the world of CNC and find all the available options overwhelming. I've been looking for solutions to machine small designs onto round blanks of silver, brass, and gold fill around 13mm x 13mm. Would the setup in the video work for that size? If so, what kind of longevity can I expect from the end mills you've used? Particularly the 501 PCB engraver, and the 502 PCB engraver. Thanks for the awesome content!

    Would be interesting to see more working with silver as the pendent (would be good to see how you polished it too) appears to be commercial quality...

      Haven't done acrylic but have experiments quite a bit with softer brass. Faster feed rates and lower depth of cut seem to get cleanest finish. Single flute better too. Big but shallow chips. Acrylic might be the same.

    My job just got an xcarve and we were wanting to do sterling silver. Do you have to use wax to secure your piece or can you use clamps? Also do you have a link to the 1/32 bit you used for this project?

    That last part about the relationship between the finishing and the hardness of the material was interesting.
    I've been trying to engrave on acrylic but the edges are not clean, I guess it's because of this

    How long did it take to cut and engrave this piece?

    I have a Bantam PCB Mill that I've been trying to use for engraving CA110 copper (disks from a local jewelry shop. 1/2 hard i'm pretty sure) and I keep breaking end mills it seems no matter how much i slow down the mill. do you have any experience with that kind of copper? if so, any advice?

    • @Steinmetal4
      @Steinmetal4 3 роки тому +3

      Don't slow your feed rate too much but instead lower your multiple pass step down. With these tiny end mills you want teeny tiny step downs... like less than half the diameter of the tool.

    Is pure silver(999) much harder? Is the engraving line much cleaner?

    Can you use the Carbide3D Nomad 883 to engrave a QR code to a PVC business card ?

    • @carbide3d
      @carbide3d  2 роки тому

      Our Nomad 3 (the next generation machine from the 883) can be used to engrave or cut. a QR onto a variety of materials. The contrast needed for a QR will be material dependent. Our machine can certainly handle the detail required. shop.carbide3d.com/products/nomad-3?variant=32912906321981 Our Shapeoko Series of machines are also capable of the detail required.

    Hi, what sofware are you using for CAD? and also the CNC machine?

    • @carbide3d
      @carbide3d  4 роки тому

      I typically use either Fusion 360 or Carbide Create for CAD. To control the CNC machine we have Carbide Motion. (-W)

    So how did you get the finished piece 4:34 so polished without killing the detail?

    • @carbide3d
      @carbide3d  5 років тому +1

      Polishing cloth. Removes very little material, so you're not going to erase the engraving.
