This is easily the best hockey breakdown channel on UA-cam.
Meh it’s top 25

The Hockey Guy is better for in depth, for quick updates tho, Hockey Psychology is top. Two channels who do different things the best. Love hockey psy
Jonny Hawkey channels also fun.
That Tanev blocked shot was wild 😅
No the Wild weren’t playing flames he blocked someone else’s shot.
@@icecoldpolitics8890boo😂
He really used his head on that play..
Love these weekly recaps 👍🏻
Me to especially when I don’t follow every team
Same! I'm checking these out every week during my lunch break at work - please keep up the great content!
Like an 11 pm beer league game on a Monday night; love it!
😂😂 Best one line summary of the week!
I really love this format of a weekly recap and discussion about things happening around the league. It’s a great way to stay informed. Thanks!
Definitely like a urinating tree recap but with hockey. Which I enjoy
Torts is 100 percent right about players not knowing how to take hits
Yup, Hathaway got a 5 minute for playing hockey..... What a joke.
It should have been icing. That hit was completely unacceptable and he needs to be banned from hockey for life.@@MrTheNoradin
@@RealDoctorMuffinsyes it should have been icing. blame the linesman for swallowing the whistle until it was too late. the rules allow for adjustments to whether a goal should count based on a referee's whistle because everyone understands playing to the whistle; Hathaway should have been granted that same leniency because the linesman screwed the pooch on that play.
Even giving hits too
Even discounting the icing, it was a pretty clear boarding. Yes, the officials could have and should have avoided the play entirely, but it was still a bad hit. At the end of the day, I still think torts is correct, just with one small discrepancy.
0:51 I wish the bench looked like that during an 11pm beer league game!
Man that one angle of behind when Tanev ate that shot was brutal. What a warrior out there.
As someone more new to hockey, how come NHL players don’t wear those face masks that you see in college that cover up the entire face?
@@7srchoed theres a lot of different opinions on why they dont, mainly the players prefer the visor. its kinda the same with neckguards most players hate wearing them after having the choice to not use one.
Hip "resurfacing" is basically a hip replacement.
I'd be so grateful for 6 guys on the bench for those 11 pm beer league games!
Great video!!
As a Hawks fan, everything that happened with Perry, Bernard, and Kane just made for a very up and down week.
I wish the Hawks nothing but the worst. Hope Bedard gets the fuck out of that shit hole.
Great recap!
If you don't like the officiating now wait until the playoffs
I've been a hockey fan since the 90s. In my experience, the more complaining there is about officiating, the more new hockey fans there are. The fact that we're seeing a lot of complaining about officials means there are a lot of new NHL fans. And to any of you who may be reading, welcome! Just be aware, hockey is the hardest sport to play, and it's the hardest sport to officiate. Don't like that? Then watch basketball.
NHL officiating has been dogshit for ever and seems like fans of this league (and teams) won't see anything changing anytime soon.
Video request: Managing rookies. The managing of Leo Carlsson has been different compared to what you usually see with less games played and more focus on development through practice as I understand it. While Bedard and Fantilli play every game without fully grown bodies. I would like to see you break down the thought processes behind different strategies to develop prospects short and long term. I find the topic interesting as there seem to be more discussion on who to pick instead of how to make the picks you get succeed.
Recently discovered your channel and absolutely in love with it! I'm a long-time hockey fan and you do an amazing job of breaking things down simply for new fans while also offering a lot of deep insight for those of us who have been around a while to consider too
These weekly recaps are outstanding - keep up the great work!!!
Sorry, please don’t ever call that a line brawl again. That was ten guys holding each other. I miss 90’s hockey
As a fan outside of North America, these weekly wrap-ups are so helpful for keeping up with the latest headlines. Thanks for all the hard work & effort
yeah i remember the playoffs goakl of Martin Brodeur... saw 3 goalie goals live on tv myself in the early 2000s
Agreed re: the officiating - you really have to wonder what kind of strategic direction they’re getting from the league in terms of what to ca and how to call it, or if they’re just that consistently incompetent.
It seems to be a bit of everything. Being a referee myself, I do understand parts of it, what with not being able to see everything at once and things like that. But with the way some rulebooks are written ( Im assuming this to be the case for the NHL) everyone reads them differently, so the refs could very well be getting told to call similar situations different ways from higher ups based on how they decipher the rules
Hockey fans love whining about refs
Tortorella is 100% right. Idk how to spell his name, but growing up and playing hockey as the bigger kid every single person would turn last second. I was suspended 7 times in one year bc of this. Never thought it would reach actual high level play, but here we are.
Great coverage of so many wild events this week. Really smooth transitions. And great little recap on stats and standings at the end.
Prefer this to other channel who try to capitalize on media-driven short attention span and post 1-2min, effortless videos just putting in a 30s hot take before asking ppl for "discussion". Your breakdowns are still the cream of the crop, but in a busy sport like this sometimes recaps are necessary. And this weekly series is a great way to do it.
Keep it up and hope all this praise doesnt change ya! 😂
NHL officials are clearly selected based upon reverse IQ scores and poor visual acuity. I was straight blown away they gave Hathaway a major when everybody...including Luke's brother knew who to blame for the hit. ...the refs, predictably...failed to acknowledge any wrong doing. They can't see guys throwing sticks to intercept incoming passes, they don't know how icing works, they're clueless when plays are off sides, they don't know what justifies a penalty shot according to their own rules. Very low quality group of individuals.
That preds/penguins game. Karlsson was holding/pulling the stick of R.ORiley trying to pull him offsides which causes him to collide into crosby. I think it was interference/holding on Karlsson before the interference on Crosby happened....so it was a good no call IMO.
Honestly, he’s trying to stay on-sides, and he has a reason to be where he is, which is a big determination for interference. It’s on both players to not collide, not just one, especially when a player is trying to make a play by being onsides. I agree it was a good no call.
Ah line brawls. Takes me back to when hockey was actually hockey.
The only time my dad finds hockey interesting is when there is intense/interesting fights or brawls on the ice
I don’t get why boomers have this obsession with line brawls and hate the insane amount of skill in the game today
Boomers huh. We’re talking about the mid 2000s not 1970 here. There was plenty of skill to go along with the fights.
I’m a lightning fan who went to watch the game in Dallas yesterday. What an absolute let down. I took some friends who have never been to a hockey game before, told them how great vasilevsky is *usually* and by the end of the game, couldn’t help but laugh as the stars piled goal after goal seemingly effortlessly into our net. It’s obviously not all his fault but he’s absolutely not back at 100% and the coaching staff should have seen that and made a change much earlier. I can’t help but think it’s a smaller hit to the ego to be benched than to have 6 scored on you in 2 periods, and then be benched anyway.
...and then Heddy played in his 1,000th game, Vasy stood on his head, shut out the same Stars, and all is right on the Gulf Coast... or is it?
Just getting back into hockey and found your channel. Great work here with these breakdowns!
Love these recaps! ❤
Loving the weekly rundowns. Interesting to see in a whole what has happened
New subscriber. Awesome summary. And the way you described the Perry saga was the classiest I’ve seen yet managing to cover the whole story. Love it.
These recaps got you a sub. Thanks for putting in the time and have a comment for the algorithm.
Discovered your channel 2 weeks ago I love it. I don't watch much hockey anymore but I'm alway interested in what's happening.
I seem to remember hearing somewhere a long time ago someone in an interview said that players would intentionally turn their backs when going into the corner/boards with the intent to draw that penalty, regardless of the chance for injury. And while I may be an old dinosaur about this, but I am not much of a fan of these lanky speedsters everywhere that put themselves in positions to get hurt on account of their going too fast.
I disagree with the theory that hockey should be slow with no talent. I will say that right off. I hear that on a constant basis. However players turning their back when they see a hit coming is a big problem. Has been for a long time. Also playing until the whistle. Always play until the whistle, always. Stop trying to ref the game and play at the same time. You are the player, play the damn game and stop being the ref. If you are trying to be both, then you can do one of them better, so quit the team and be a ref or play hockey, not both.
I played junior 30 years ago--the way to get out of a corner in one piece was to go in faster than the other guy--who was just as afraid of you--and get out before he could touch you. Slowing down is the problem.
Been skating since I was three, hung up the boots at 21, now turning 25 in April and these vids making me refuel the love for the game again. Much appreciated keep it up
It’s saying a lot when the goalie goal was the least weird thing to happen this week.
A few years ago , coming out of the League Governors meeting , the most talked about issue with the game was the officiating. The general consensus was inconsistency. That was a few years ago...Inconsistency still reigns supreme. Now the officials are making mistakes that are altering the outcome of games, Players are being injured .
The League has to come up with some sort of grading and evaluation system to weed out the officials that aren't doing it right.
Just let it be known while Calgary fans continue to make fun of the Darnell Nurse contract they still have Huberdeau making 10.5M on pace for 51 points. Nurse is on pace for 34.
Just wanna thank you for these videos dude. Look forward to them every week 😁
Deadly video man! Been busy with Irl and work haven’t had much time to watch the games so this is unreal
Love your breakdowns and recaps greetings from Germany
Between the Ottawa/Florida brawl and the Bedard's mom memes, I haven't laughed this hard watching hockey since Craig McTavish pulled Harvey the Hound's tongue out of his mouth.
No one in my family really watches hockey besides me but when I saw that brawl and how many men had penalties I had to show my parents and they got a hoot out of it.
@Cheyennemae.A When the ref said "everyone on the ice gets a ten minute misconduct" I almost had coffee come out my nose.
@@ExpatChef71 I almost wished I had watched that game in real time and not just a clip from yt. The only time my dad finds hockey interesting is when there is an interesting fight or brawl on the ice.
@Cheyennemae.A I had to watch the recap on YT as well. Live would have been awesome 👌
100% agree with nhl becoming a no hit league. it seems every Don Cherry rock em sock em hit is followed by a penalty. And for the Blackhawks drama, they couldn't of been more cryptic with th initial statements on Perry. WTF were they thinking letting it be that wide open for speculations. They could of easily made a statement to reflect what was happening to a degree. Such a stupid ridiculous initial statement.
I feel terrible for Bedard. He's probably a generational talent and he was unlucky enough to get picked by a gong show org. Such a damn shame.
Just subbed, great content! Been looking for something like this for NHL which I find hard to follow as a Swede.
"The benches looked like an 11pm beer league game on a Monday night."
Bro, that one hit home.
But 100% accurate.
Perry's apology seemed to be honest and heartfelt. He knew he screwed up and took responsibility for it. That's not something you see a whole lot. I hope he gets the help he needs and is back on the ice soon.
What did he actually do tho? Like specifically what was the incident
Love the channel, not one mention of Minnesota’s firings of head and ass coach though.
Great show! Thanks!
I think this is what hockey should be. No one got severely hurt and paralyzed. Until then hockey should be exactly this. Rough stuff, skill rivalry, and unpleasant hits. This is awesome. Hockey had become so soft lately that all we had was dumping pucks, skating fast thru the whole team to score. But this this is what I remember hockey to be.
When i was young and learning hockey we were taught how to properly take a hit. We were told what to do if we turn our backs or are coming in hot to avoid any major damage and use our padding to take the brunt of the hit and save ourselves. Torts is 100% correct. I feel like the newer generation hasnt learned how to properly take a hit or handle themselves appropriately when coming in hot on the boards.
The amount of times ive seen players drop their heads into the boards/players, not using their shoulders, or not using their arms/hands to protect their head/face when getting slammed into the boards at all OR because they wanna hold their stick is insane to me. I was taught the puck is not worth your life, so use what ya got to help yourself. That was drilled into my head in AAA. You may lose but at least your alive to play again.
Great recap, new sub 👊🏾
best part of the week, love these things. i only watch the red wings so it's nice to catch up with what's going on around the league with these
I’m glad I found a hockey channel like this. Been wanting to watch one like this for a few years now. The most unexpected thing for me is how good the Flyers are playing considering how bad they were supposed to be
Robby Fabbri.
Lower body Injury weeks ago, fans put a dagger in his career, saying it was over speculating it was his knee once again.
Returns 7 goals in 11 games (9 points), seems to freeze opponents around in and around the net with his shot selection.
Unsung hero in Detroit's current fortunes.
I love these recaps. I just learned about the triangle and 1-2-2. Hockey is the best sport to study
Phenomenal and fun recap!
Great channel dude! So just bro-mmenting here lol, I have Kuch on my fantasy team and also decided in the beginning of the season to ride the goalie no one though to pick, Johansson. The Lightnings offense, been watching them a lot, is there but they lose focus or something on some games. Its almost like they're so talented they're forgetting the discipline. The problem wasn't at the goal, tho lotta love for Vas, the Lightning need some retooling and adjust their strategy to shift for different playstyles better. When you see the Ducks, love the Ducks but bad news bears team too often, spank the team that spanks TB...you know theres a more chesslike strategem missing in their tool kit. My 2 bits 😎
My problem with the shootout shabang is that they never even announced that they were reviewing the goal.
I always look forward to your videos
nothing wrong with that hughes hit
You crush these breakdowns!!!
60 seconds in the video: i subscribed. After the video: im in fking love with this channel! Such a good job with the breakdown!😊
I like the Kane signing simply for the value that someone like him can bring to the young guys in Detroit just by existing in the locker room.
Provided he's willing to teach and the Red Wings are willing to learn of course.
This is definitely one of the seasons in NHL history.
I follow a lot of hockey channels and this one is by far the best. Keep it ip
I usually only follow the playoffs, so I guess I chose the right season to watch from the beginning! 😂
Cool weekly recap. I like it.
Great recap!
I have an 11:10pm beer league game tomorrow which is a Monday 😂😂😂
88's gonna be just fine. However, the pain I feel growing up hating Detroit yet considering low key buying a Wings hat to support him & the cat hits deep.
Absolutely love this channel
I definitely wouldn't describe Kaner's season last year with the sort of disdain that you did here... Something like 55 points in 75 games, dipping to like 15:00 TOI in NYR, and being a setup man for the Blackhawks as opposed to their primary goalscorer... For a guy that's 34 & undersized, that sounds like an impressive season to me, not to mention 6 Pts in the 7 Game series with the Rangers in April.
Penguins backup had a goalie goal in the minors last week too
Chris Tanev is a beast of a man
You should do these weekly and date your shows. Good content.
As a preds fan we got away with blatant interceptions multiple times against the penguins not just on that goal.
NFL- No Fun League
NHL- No Hitting League
Taking Kane after a hip surgery is just stupid. Thanks for the recap.
Checking has been removed from youth hockey. Not until Bantam! Of COURSE these kids don't know how to deal with hits!
the blackhawks have such a massive pr (maturity? ethicality?) issue, its been plaguing them for a while now...
great video thanks
Yeah awesome video. Nice job
these recaps are great especially since im a new fan to the sport
Not a Cap fan or anything, but as a HOCKEY fan, I want to see him break the holy grail of NHL records (i.e. most goals in a career).
I'm worried Ovi might crumble just before the finish line, robbing all of us of that special moment. The team around him isn't helping the situation.
What's more important:
1 - Him staying until the end with the Caps but no record?
OR
2 - Him moving elsewhere but breaking THE record?
Obviously 1+ record, but eh. what about it Caps and hockey fans in general? IMHO I can't see him wear another jersey; so the GM should do everything to feed goals to Ovi.
The Tanev brothers are built different
M. Tkachuk was crying in the box! How did you miss that part
Dude this season is pure chaos and I love it!
And so unpredictable
Torts is right, this is a problem as the NHL drafts younger and younger players who haven’t learnt the ‘art’ of hitting.
Gotta say, I kind of agree with Torts as weird as that is. I grew up playing travel hockey in a small town and there were harder hits in those games than 80% of NHL regular season games now.
These weekly breakdowns are absolute gold for me
Dallas going from that painful game against the flames to an 8-1 win over the Bolts was not something I had on my bingo card.
i think the calder race will narrow down too bedard vs. carlsson very soon
Jack Hughes was acting like an idiot. Hathaway did the right thing and what Tortarella said about the NHL going soft is 100% right.
Luke Hughes has been blown up twice shying away from contact
Most unexpected this late in the season? Kane getting picked up.
that nashville OT goal had a football element to it: protecting the QB with tackles :)
Bedards just gotta keep his head up and ignore all these sad rumours. He's doing fantastic for his rookie year and hes gunna take this league by storm for suuuuure
Torts benching Farabee is just him checking how Farabee will respond. If he takes it the right way, he's back on the ice and starts doing what his coach wants him to do.
If he doesn't.. He's in the doghouse for good.
He’s right. They’ve put the onus on the hitter to the point that players don’t know how to take a hit. I don’t really know how to change that as the onus has to be on the hitter. But players put themselves in situations to either get a guy to hold up and not hit them or draw a penalty.
Players are definitely not protecting themselves from hits like they used to
“and the benches looked like an 11pm beer league on a Monday night” - 🎩
Dallas Stars mentioned.
I definitely think at times players don't protect themselves from hits. It's something we have to work on and the balance is still being worked on. The NHL has to get safer and it can't really find the right balance until it swings wildly from side-to-side on this specific issue. The officiating of course does this no favors.
