- Awesome FILM camera Minolta Dynax 9 | Minolta 9
Buy the Minolta Dynax 9 now it's Incredible
Every now and then I get the itch (not the dodgy one, that's a bugger to shift...apparently) to turn back the clock and shoot film again.
Inspired by various film shooters and one lad in particular who has a series of videos on my old favorite combo a 50mm 1.7 on a Minolta Dynax 9 which I've had since the late 90s. So armed with the above gear I had a steady warm winters late afternoon stroll along the Ahuriri waterfront in the stunning New Zealand city of Napier. Grab a brew kick back chillax and help me scratch the film itch once more. Checkout Stephen Milner / @stephenmilner Paul C Smith www.youtube.co... and David Hancock • Minolta Alpha (Maxxum,...

Just checking analytics which I don't often do and found a comment held back by you tube. I hate censorship and I will never ever delete a comment no matter how critical of me or my efforts. Anyway, I can't reply to that comment so here it is and for the record I sound stupid because I'm not in all reality the brightest bulb in the room. I will try to take this advise on board cheers mate X ..........

Stop saying 'bad boy' - it makes you sound stupid.
Thanks for the mention mate. Awesome story and video. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed reconnecting with your old camera. It looks like a beast of camera. Shame about the old photos but the new ones are awesome.
Hey Stephen cheers for the feed back mate, yeah I loved using the 9 again it's an incredible camera. It's got me wanting more from now, so been dusting off the old Oly 35 SP love that baby. We have a stack of old kodak 35mm colour film at work the boss chucked a load at me, but as it's 20 years old I'm not so keen on using it yet. Thanks for having a look hope you get a few of my legendary subs over to your chan.
Thanks for the shout out bud
Welcome mate hope ya get a few views and subs from my small but legendary subscriber base xxx
Fantastic video and review. Lovely storytelling as well! Hats off!
I just got a dynax 9 and i am loving it. My grip fell off though but i managed to make a new one, and now its like it never fell off. Such build quality.
Proper piece of photographic history, sadly quite overlooked.
Hey cheers mate yeah agreed it's an awesome camera glad you got the grip fixed, definitely a camera that will just keep going solid and capable, love it. Thanks for the comments mate really appreciate it.
Well done, great story, wonderful pics. Sport work was really impressive.
Tristan Ferguson thanks mate appreciate it. 📷❤️
What a black beauty! I wish I kept my Minolta Maxum/Dynax 7.
Definitely glad I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to cameras📷😂 thanks for watching mate cheers
Really nice to see someone using the brilliant Minolta 9. I've got that and the 7 and I still use them to this day. Thank you for this, I needed it. :)
Thanks for the feed back mate. Agreed totally I think we get caught up too easily in the newest and shiniest but when it come down to it you really cant beat the look feel and experience of a good old film camera. I wish I'd kept my old Min 7000 but had to to part ex it for the 9. Thanks for taking a look mate appreciate it. Regards Paul
Minolta made some great cameras back in the day. Looking at buying the CLE sometime in the future
Ben Droege that would be a great camera to shoot I almost got one a few years ago but ended up with an oly sp35 Cheers for having a look mate I’ll checkout your work
@@paultaylorphotography9499 Really has that Leica feel for a fraction of the price. Oh nice! I need to look into that camera. Cheers Paul!
Ben Droege I love the oly but mine has a wee fault I need to repair it and use it again the Minolta looks awesome tho just subbed ya mate I’ll checkout your vids tonight 📷
Paul Taylor Photography ah that’s a shame...hopefully an easy fix. Ah cheers Paul! All the best.
Thank you very much for the very nostalgic video. I also have a Dynax 9 and it's one of the best cameras I've ever had, it made me want to go take pictures. I think that in Tmax there is no ISO 200, there is 100 or 400. And by the way, you can see well in your photos why the film is called gold. The lens was the Minolta AF 50 f1.7 new ?
agreed mate love that camera from memory mine is the 50mm 1.8 lens cracking wee optic. Definitively still one of my all time fave cameras. Glad you enjoyed mate keep using that camera.
Great video. I really like these types of Minolta videos as they inspire me to grab one of my 20 Minoltas and go exploring.
Awesome Brian so pleased you took some inspiration the Minoltas are lovely cameras hope you enjoy and share some of your results would be nice to see. I’ll check your chan mate thanks 📷❤️
Love that image at 15:14. Awesome capture. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Tony appreciate you taking a look. Cheers mate.
Damn! You got the camera 10 years before it was even made. I wish I could do things like that.
Yeah I’m a photographer not a numerical athlete I even have my kids birthdays tattooed on my arm and still forget🙄 thanks for having a look
nice work Paul, recently bought some 120 FP4 to use in my old Mamiya, not managed to get out with it yet for obvious reasons, your comments about checking the LCD made me laugh, funny how we get so used to checking the image !
Hey Steve yeah the LCD thing, crazy how it becomes normal. I'm going to dig out the Bronica one day give that a go. Hope you get out with the Mam soon mate. Thanks for having a look.
Cool video Paul! I've picked up one of these cameras! I figure it was about time I upgraded from my 800si haha. I'm just waiting on some batteries I've ordered. Plus I gotta finish off a roll I got in my Leica M3. Weather is shit around here right now so it's taking me ages to finish this roll off. Anyhow, I enjoyed watching your video. Nice pictures. :)
Hey congrats Rob that camera is incredible I don’t use it nearly enough you’re gonna be very happy with it. No such thing as shit weather mate just inappropriate clothing and twitchy camera electronics 😂📷❤️📷❤️ thanks for taking a look mate I’ll check it to your channel too
There's an element with film of making every shot count! I've not used film since the late 90's, but i was considering getting a film camera for when I shoot at gigs (if that ever happens again). Photography at music events is such a challenging environment, but if it works could really pay off.
Agreed mate for me film is a challenge you have to work harder then hope like hell you got it right then the delay awaiting the results is nerve racking then finally the satisfaction of seeing the images I just shot a roll on an old Pentax for a few reasons I screwed up some frames but I’m confident I made some work can’t wait to get them back from the lab. You should see Hancock for a sneaky concert pass mate he seems ok to stop folk gettin together then nipping off with his bit on the side 🙄
Fantastic images and video Paul!
Thanks so much mate really appreciate the feedback and the sub ❤️📷❤️
@@paultaylorphotography9499 absolutely Mate!

Great photos. I shoot on old Minolta X700’s I love saturated and grain in my images. I also have the Canon Eos 1. Just love that camera.
The x700 was one I fancied but never got it Minolta are such good cameras the paper stopped using the canon slrs just before I arrived the went for D60s I preferred the film bodies. Thanks for taking a look mate📷❤️
Nice photos
Thanks mate appreciate the deed back.
The real bad boy is that guy at 1:42
haha yeah Love Vinny.
It very much does have a custom menu setting. The actual interface isn't as advanced as the A7 but the top LCD does have a menu system. Check out David Hancok's video instruction manual and you might even learn something about the custom menu. I even learned about some features I didn't know (such as turning the auto focus beep off) that involve pressing multiple buttons. His tutorials are very good.
Will check him out I’ve seen a lot of his vids top bloke cheers
Gosh this makes me want to take my old Nikon F4s out of the cupboard. I was expecting B&W shots not colour. I always used Neopan B&W.
hmmmmm F4s.......I might need to borrow off ya....Yep I would have prefered mono but had none saying that I'm happy with the colour results. I'll defo do more. bring that nikon in tomorra mate xxxx
Super Leeds in 1991! Are you a Leeds lad?
Cas mate leeds supporter 💙💛💙💛💙
Hi - I think you might be getting your dates a bit mixed up ?
You said at the start you picked it up about '87/'88 and later you said you put it into storage about mid to late 90's after using it for 6/7 years....this camera wasn't released until 1998...
Yeah spot on mate my numbers are garbage I’m useless with dates true story I have all my kids birthdays tattooed on my arm and I swear I still forget their birthdays. Apologies for the mix up mate cheers
Супер!
Спасибо mate
I have the canon eos 1v and it's the perfect machine. However I have always wanted to try one of these.
Mate the news room where I work still has te 1v body in the cupboard it's been sat gathering dust since they got the D30 I'm tempted to take it for a a spin. The lads that used it in the day all love it. The Minolta in incredible if I were being critical to it's pretty easy in manual mode to knock the dials and change the exposure values, I'm constantly checking it between shots. I'm taking it to Wellington this weekend shoot some mono street pix. Thanks for having a look mate and taking the time to comment.
@@paultaylorphotography9499 it should not be in a cupboard. That is a waste. If you want I can take it off you...... Hahahaha Seriously clean it up and stick it on ebay, you will get 300 to 450 quid for it depending on condition and whether it has a motor drive. I got mine for 390 as new.
keiron stoneman 😆😆agreed there mate but I think the gaffa wants to keep hold of it he still has a d30 and d60 in there it’s like a wee canon museum before canon they were Nikon but they’ve all mysteriously gone awol 🙄
loved it :-)
abetterangle cheers mate appreciate it thanks for the sub favour returned I’ll checkout your stuff tonight 📷❤️
The Dynax-9 was made for sport photography, it focuses instantaneously on the subject, the problem is that if the subject is close, then it will focus only on the subject and the background will be completely blurred, like at 1:06, but the human eye doesn't see like that (thanks god).
I bought it for sports and I can’t recall ever regretting it mate such a solid camera always love the results from this beast thanks for taking a look 📷❤️
@@paultaylorphotography9499 What's the situation in New Zealand? Is it going to open the borders, or there's no such planning?
@@NorceCodine no plans yet mate think they’re awaiting an all singin n dancing vaccine they are letting kiwi expats back in but only after tests etc and only small number at a time last I heard over 500k expats are wanting to get back prob is we don’t have the houses for em mate
@@paultaylorphotography9499 Can you adjust the depth-of-field manually, or it always shoots in full AF-mode? I was really surprised that it worked after 30 years in storage, the oil on the lens-blades should have dried. By the way don't store anything in a plastic container, you lock the moisture in.
@@NorceCodine I change the dof manually for sport I shoot 2.8 for landscapes generally f11 it works in both AF and MF good point about plastic containers a few silica gel pax help
Actually I also liked some shots from the first film
Cheers mate I was surprised anything came out at all thanks for watching appreciate
It 📷❤️
