I'm glad you mentioned that apparently it's Hasslehoff saying the wrong line when he says "how did you know those two were coming", because that line didn't ever used to make sence to me either, because how I used to describe it to myself, was that at no point does kitt ever say that the bad guys are arriving, it's Michael that notices them arrive, and also for the entirety of that scene, kitt then still doesn't do anything of his own accord, it's Micheal telling him what to do, so kitt actually comes across as totally oblivious to the situation. I always wondered aswell if kitt hitting the car wasn't actually supposed to of happened. Because what would also back up that thought, is that seeing as the stunt guy would have a limited view behind the front seat, it wouldn't surprise me if he just entered into that skid abit to hot and misstimed it. Because if you think about it aswell, kitt didn't actually need to hit the car anyway or that it didn't achieve anything different than what not hitting would of done. Even though I used to know the episodes off by heart, and still do to some extent, Im abit ashamed to say I havnt actually watched Knight Rider for a few years, so I thought I'd rewatch clips of this episode before commenting to refresh my memory about the scene I just described above just to gather my thoughts. But whilst watching, I saw another clip from this episode that I always used to find strange aswell. And that's that early on in the episode, after the first car chase scene, when Michael and kitt then arrive at the semi parked up, we see Michael drive into the semi, then we have a scene inside the semi, and then we see Michael reverse out. And it always seemed an odd driving decision to reverse out and to back up quite a far distance, only to then proceed to drive forward in the direction he's just come from. It always used to make me think if you're gonna end up going forwards in the direction you've just come from then why back up much? But for the first time ever the answer suddenly just came to me that explains why it looks weird or why that happens, and that's because what we are seeing is the same footage of him driving forwards into the truck, but it's just being played backwards. Which of course explains why the car backs up so much, because when played forward, he would of been approaching from a far distance. So they play it backwards, and backs up quite a long distance, then put in an insert shot of him putting kitts gearshift into drive, then play it forwards, and cut away before he turns into the semi.
Well it's nice to of received a response, so thank you. Just to add an extra thought to it possibly being accidental with kitt hitting the car, and that's that across the whole series it is a common occurance for kitt to chase a car or block it off etc, (or even if it's Michael driving) but its very rare, or I'd even go as far as saying it doesn't really happen at all where it results in hard contact, or kitt just smashing into another car. But anyway, seeing as I've always had quite a few thoughts and opinions about things that happen in the episodes, and that your videos give me an outlet to share them, then if any spring to mind i may very well leave some further thoughts in your other videos of the episodes as I go along. 🙂
I just realized it after all these years watching this show especially this episode. Mario’s bus is painted in (Goliath Gray). There I just coined that phrase! I think?😁
There is a continuity error between this episode and season 3's "Lost Knight". In Lost Knight, KITT's memory module is under the front of the car rather than under the dash like in this episode.
Great Episode. I always found it odd how KITT never noticed that Bonnie's voice wasn't Bonnie. Those voice things are never 100%. Also like @crossdouble's comment here about the reaction time to the not Motherboard.... yeah no PC in existence can do it that fast. Appreciate Jack Gill's home movie clip too. And never noticed all the times the Semi was in the background. That is very cool. "And that's just for computer lovers everywhere". One of my favourite KITT lines, which shows he DOES have a heart, or anger inside him. Emotion, when he says in one Ep, that he doesn't.
Once again I'm very impressed by your sleuthing and attention to detail. Great commentary video! I attended a trade event at the Pacific Palms about 15 years ago and was surprised to learn that THAT was the place KITT had crashed the real fake doors! Wish that I had known it then, it would have made the event much more interesting!
Even though there is a shell on KITT, I wondered just how much damage was done to him when the car slammed into the Thunderbird. Quite a loud bang is clearly heard.
@@LisaSargent03 Yes Lisa but I was just wondering in Knight Racer there was a third that had driver side damage when the baddy slammed into it trying to attack Michael
Those blueprints will continue to age and fade and deteriorate. Highly recommend finding a document preservation expert familiar with the unique processes used in blueprints. And don't delay. They need to be preserved before damage ruins them. High res scans are likely going to be the way to go. But get an expert in involved. These things are far too fragile to be rolled up and secured with zip ties.
YES! Blue line prints are developed with ammonia vapor, and have limited lifetime, with VERY fast degradation with UV exposure. The paper is poor grade too, and will fail. A large sheet roll fed copier can make permanent toner based copies on acid free paper.
i remember back in the day at school , to make copies they would use this blue dye kinda stuff. the paper would be slightly wet bit the smelllllll was such a goood smelll.. :) @@jenniferwhitewolf3784

@@pdennis93actually I think there was a missing episode before Junkyard Dog. Berio found the CPU and was then hired by Acid John to build the forklift as a self driving robot
Like you Joe,a big favourite of mine, just a great episode plenty of action..both blind drive cars heavily used..so note the RHBD was used at the scene when KITT forces Berio's bus off the road, both used in the' Micheal on the hood scene,'plus the Hero car with Hasselhoff on the front, but what you left out was the huge goof right after KITT smashes Micheal into the Hut,KITT reverse and you get a clear image of Jack's hand frantically turning the stunt wheel..now I remember seeing it on a tiny TV 36 years ago and thought, someone should have spotted that and chopped the scene..nowadays it's so easy to spot..to this day I can't help but think if they had used the RHBD car the hands would have been hidden by the passenger door..but hey ho,it is what it is...again Joe smashing commentary look forward to the next episode..
@@CR7659 network censors LOL. The movie Smokey and the bandit was edited to have "sumbitch" changed to "scumbum" for some reason when it was played on network TV. This is a bit odd and ironic as there was an episide of In the Heat of the Night on CBS in 1989 where Bubba uses the word sumbitch so clearly it was allowed on network TV.
Funny thing about this show was the way an 80s show would clumsily cut to a stunt double with an obvious wig on - and they even did it to KITT with the wax shell
It could be precisely the nose you have. Maybe that's why they rarely used the real comlink. Probably due to this damage. Pretty cool footage. Those tapes on each board remind us of the S01/S02 dashboards. This episode is also one of my favorites. To me, it came at the right time. It quickly released us of "The Scent of Roses", a great and, I would say, the saddest episode of the entire series.
I totally agree with you about the way they take care of continuity and details while filming this episode. Another nice moment I loved is at the beginning when KITT and Michael are going to test the updates and they meet Farrell who after a second makes a handbrake turn. We see this turn from a camera angle but after a second, the scene goes to the insert car angle and in the middle of so many scenes where we saw the things behind Hasselhoff didn't match with the scene (as example the SPM on but from the insert car angle we see the normal hatch), this time if we look closely even from the insert car camera we see through the window the Farrell car making the handbrake turn. Neat. About the Thunderbird, honestly I am not sure if could be one of drone cars. As I remember those cars had the chrome trim around the side windows, and tires/wheels were of a smaller size. Yes, could be one of those cars, but they had to change a lot of stuff, not only a repaint. Just my two cents.
A bit of Terminator related trivia. Olympic Boulevard is the location given when the T-800 imitates the Police Officer over the radio and Pico Boulevard is where the fictional Club, Tech - Noir was located.
I love watching videos like this because it shows that the scenes where they filmed have not changed much over time more or less whether or depending on something was torn down or something was built in its place and I'm not meaning prop buildings I'm meaning actual buildings. A while back I rewatched the series and I was wondering where I've heard the crossing guard voice from before and she played The Goonies or after The Goonies depending on which way you look at it, she also played somewhere else a TV series but I can't remember. The scene where David hasselhoff is laying on the ground after jumping out a kitt which we all know never really happened I'm surprised that is the mobile Operation center in the background, you would figure it would be just some random truck with black doors going down the road. but this also makes you think were they going to shoot the scene differently from what you see in the actual show. It's 🤣they caught one of the crew members accidentally getting out of the truck in one of the scenes. I mean I wouldn't blame him either if I knew I was filming Knight Rider I would figure out some way to get into a scene whether it was accidental or on purpose 😄. the new one wasn't that bad in fact I kind of enjoyed the new Knight Rider it gave it a new spin of story what happened to the foundation if all the sudden abandoned or funds were no longer available but then restarted whith new funds and a new foundation. I just wish they would have released a pilot, season 1 or season 2 how many episodes they made DVD so those people who are collecting all episodes could get those.
Always found it funny how they made it possible to make KITT react within one second to the new programming card when Michael inserted it - even with nowadays technology not possibly XD
I didn’t get to see Killer K.I.T.T. until 2003. By that time, UK Sky Channel Bravo were showing the series everyday and it was always tricky to find episodes that I still hadn’t seen. If I missed it, it would take several weeks if not months before the episode in question would come round again. Killer K.I.T.T. is definitely in my top 18 of all time 👍
35:48 the funny thing about this blooper is that in the german version, the line is spoken correct! „Wie konnten die wissen dass wir kommen?“ means „how did those two know we were coming?“
Fun fact Harvey Jason also appeared in Airwolf in season 1 Mind of the Machine as a spy and the pilot of the helicopter that helps the other spy who steals Airwolf's blueprints.
@@williammitchell4417 yep David’s character was Dr. Robert Winchester. As for Harvey Jason’s Airwolf character he played Alexi Provov and I also found out he was also in The Lost World Jurassic Park as Ajay Sidhu too.
There was a very good view you had of the trailer and ramp... didn't see any extensions coming out from the ramp. Maybe they were manually operated to extend.... Also the roll door was good to see....
There is just 1 moot point to make. Marco Berio was part of the team developing a super car way back when? But It couldn't have been KITT? It was more then likely KARR!
I think you're spot on there and it explains more about how Berio gained control of KITT because Berio would have still had all of KARRs code for self preservation so he just loaded it onto that cartridge
too bad you didn't explain (again) why KITT was so displeased about his evil self saying the word "ain't" - also who voiced the evil version of KITT? Also Mr. Daniels?
28:40 - the question about how they filmed the shot across the street. They clearly used a dummy phone box; the real phone has square corners while the dummy for the shot with Hasslehoff’s face has rounded sides.
You overlook one thing in the last part of the episode when you're switching between the left hand blind drive car and the right hand blind drive car the right hand blind drive car does not have the driver's side T top on
Lot of great stuff in this one! Thanks! Love the behind the scene footage by Jack Gill especially. Funny how Scent of Roses and this one had good stories but the rest not so much. Did some writers leave or they just quit trying?
I think maybe the target audience for the show was like under 13 years old, so they didn't invest too much on writing. Have you watched Saved by the Bell as an adult?
You keep bringing up the cables for the right-hand drive car, well the cables and the other items to make it right-hand capable were probably from a company that converted cars for driving schools or driving instructors in some states the instructor had to have controls to take over from the student in case of an emergency or a situation a student is too inexperienced for. In some states, it is just a brake pedal, in other states a full set of controls are required (steering wheel, brake& accelerator pedal). Some garages can order a kit to do the conversion, but they were mostly intended for full-size sedans because Trans-Ams/Formulas were not used for student drivers which is likely why the cables do not look like they fit right, plus control cables can't have any sharp turns to prevent kinking and keeping the cable moving freely, just look at the control cables on a multi-speed bike to see the gentle bends.
The payphone on the building has a flat top... when they change angles, they now show a payphone with rounded corners... so it is a different payphone all together.
In the scene where Michael is at Bario's warehouse, he tells Bonnie that he's found mock up of a building and photo transmits it to Bonnie so she can identify it. That model was apparently borrowed from the Industry Sheraton. At the time this episode was filmed, that model had been on display at the hotel / resort since it opened. As the model is scanning, and you clearly see the City of Industry logo on the roof. It may still be on display, but since I haven't been there in years, I can't say for certainty. Also, in the final scene, as Michael is trying to switch KITT's memory module, the road (actually the driveway for the hotel) is not as long as the scene depicts. On a side note, the hotel / resort is down the road from Covina where other scenes from KR were filmed.
Got to love all the nuggets of knowledge. Also, L.A 36 years ago... As a French fan of 80s American TV shows, I somehow know more about this city than about my own living city here. Pop culture is a crazy thing. 😜
I like seeing the then and now off the places they filmed . I’ve mentioned this is another video commentary. You point out those Comtron trucks but have you ever noticed the blue Chevy pickup that continues to be in almost every episode . In ten wheel trouble the young girl gets a ride in that truck and you will see it in the line of vehicles when Michael is rolling on the ground in this episode. Just wondering if you know anything about that truck being it was used so often .

Wow that is so cool to see all the blue prints. This is how they designed things back in the 80's: by hand with pencil and paper. Now designs are all done on the computer which makes things more efficient, as a graphic designer/ video editor I can tell you it's less of a pain today to design stuff like that. But it's always neat to see how designers used to work back in the day. With that said I can see why the network (NBC) had to cancel Knight Rider and other action shows of that decade. It was too expensive to build out all those unique sets and custom automobiles for every episode. It made sense for NBC to have that budget for Knight Rider when it was a number 1 show in the 1st and 2nd seasons. But as soon as Knight Rider started slipping in the ratings the budget didn't match the spot in the ratings where Knight Rider was dropping to. And it seems NBC was just going in a different direction in the mid-80's and going with sitcoms over action shows, less expensive.
Yeah, sitcoms becoming popular was what put several nails in Knight Rider's coffin. Filmed nearly entirely in studio with the same few sets and a pretty much fixed cast, they cost pennies compared what a Knight Rider episode entailed - new locations each episode, a different cast for each episode aside that handful of mains, a lot of exterior filming which ofter required roads to be temporarily closed on top of the tons of car stunts. And, of course, the vast amount of props that had to be built, moved around and sometimes repurposed, while most of a sitcom's sets are built once and used forever.
@@TheSergioTurbo yeah all that is super expensive and also time consuming when you consider these episodes aired weekly. But I can see now a days a show like Knight Rider can be produced because most shows on Netflix go big budget.
they shot at Industry Hills a lot back in the day, too! as I've told you several times the past year or two, I live literally up the street from there (off Azusa, too). but, Caddyshack was also shot there, as well as Back to School. then if you go down the street just a few blocks, you might catch a glimpse of a Delorean crazily driving in the parking lot at the mall! again, this is a time that I didn't know they shot KR so close to home again. I'm beginning to think that there is a conspiracy not to cast me in anything cool!!! haha
35:32 The misspoken line gets past you even when you know it's there. This is how the mistake made it into the final cut of the episode. You have to make a purposeful effort to stop and listen to what the Hoff said while focused on the context of the scene to hear it as an error. I'm convinced beyond any doubt that no one on the set when the scene was being filmed heard it as an error. If someone had spotted it, I'm sure they would have brought the Hoff back in to record the line correctly from the script which would be used to dub over the misspoken audio. It is also possible that the crew identified the error but figured casual viewers wouldn't notice it. They could not have foreseen the episode being carefully examined almost 40 years later.
I do remember when K.I.T.T.'s CPU Access Port with CPU chip was switched by "False Bonnie Barstow" who is not her in her disguise was cleaver that turned K.I.T.T. evil that turned on Michael on the show and K.I.T.T. did crashed into the convention after Michael did switched back with the real CPU chip in K.I.T.T. from the evil CPU chip that returned K.I.T.T. back to normal and went after Marco Berrio as payback on the show with Super Pursuit Mode that came into play.

That's true!! I remember that!!!🤯🤯
Maybe when he was rebuilt, it was moved
I thought about the same thing!
Maybe there is a hole in the floor and it was always under the dash. 😂
Well it is possible that it was relocated during one of K.I.T.T.s upgrades.
I love your commentary on this episode. I really like this episode. It's really good it has amazing score and kit evil voice is amazing.
I assume thanks to the events of this episode. This is the reason why KITT got the huge eye camera that we see in Knight Rider 2000.
I always love that shot when the semi goes under the California 57 freeway, it's an awesome shot, it's in San Dimas in LA County. 👍
Even though there is a shell on KITT, I wondered just how much damage was done to him when the car slammed into the Thunderbird. Quite a loud bang is clearly heard.
Yeah and a thunderbird with driver side damage... hmmm haven't we seen that before lol
@@karr203 Yes, but what about the trans am with damage?
@@LisaSargent03 Yes Lisa but I was just wondering in Knight Racer there was a third that had driver side damage when the baddy slammed into it trying to attack Michael
31:07 - Very close, but not exactly another T-Bird. Look closely at the grille, it's the Mercury twin, the Cougar.
I always thought it was ironic that they used the name "attack mode" for Knight Rider 2008.
Loved this episode, it was one of my favourites too.I was glad when KITT got his new memory module and he returned to normal.

Almost as good as a "fourth season KARR" episode we never got. That "ain't" no lie.
Iirc they were going to bring KARR back for season 5 if there was one. That was why his CPU was blinking at the end of KvK.
You just said ain't you must be sick
@@pdennis93actually I think there was a missing episode before Junkyard Dog. Berio found the CPU and was then hired by Acid John to build the forklift as a self driving robot
I was always impressed by that shot of Hasselhoff on the hood, as it looks like he does take a pretty hard bump up there.
One of the funniest scenes in Knight Rider was the crossing guard scene. "I suggest you keep your ample derriere off my hood!"
Even evil KITT is too civilized to say "fat @$$"
@@CR7659 network censors LOL.
The movie Smokey and the bandit was edited to have "sumbitch" changed to "scumbum" for some reason when it was played on network TV. This is a bit odd and ironic as there was an episide of In the Heat of the Night on CBS in 1989 where Bubba uses the word sumbitch so clearly it was allowed on network TV.
Great commentary Joe & AJ!! Love your content!!
Funny thing about this show was the way an 80s show would clumsily cut to a stunt double with an obvious wig on - and they even did it to KITT with the wax shell
I am 43 and still love watching knight rider! I started watching in 1985 tho!
Very cool commentary I enjoyed the rare blueprints of knight rider history and marko Barrios bus reminds me of the armored bus used in soul survivor 👍
One of my favorites too! Glad to see it’s longer then 15 minutes lol
Quite possibly the best episode review to date
Loved the filming locations
Have tou took K I.T.T. back to recreate any??
A bit of Terminator related trivia. Olympic Boulevard is the location given when the T-800 imitates the Police Officer over the radio and Pico Boulevard is where the fictional Club, Tech - Noir was located.
17:35 always love these Mission:Impossible effects on other shows XD
I LOVE THAT YOU THREW IN A CLIP OF THE 2009 KNIGHT RIDER!!!!
Congratulations, you're living up to my every expectation.
Always found it funny how they made it possible to make KITT react within one second to the new programming card when Michael inserted it - even with nowadays technology not possibly XD
Dude, things were way faster in the 80s - ever saw how quick a C64 booted up?
Luckily, KITT was designed BEFORE Windows. 😌
Maybe KITTS programing was done on an IBM 5100

Good catch. With David Carradine. The Lady vs the Lady🤓
@@williammitchell4417 yep David’s character was Dr. Robert Winchester. As for Harvey Jason’s Airwolf character he played Alexi Provov and I also found out he was also in The Lost World Jurassic Park as Ajay Sidhu too.
Funny you could find the blueprints to a bus from one episode, but nothing for the Tractor and Trailer which is a much more significant set piece
Awesome video and great info. 👍 Knight Rider was massive in the UK, it was on every Saturday and it was a huge deal in our household.
Thanks as always, Joe.
too bad you didn't explain (again) why KITT was so displeased about his evil self saying the word "ain't" - also who voiced the evil version of KITT? Also Mr. Daniels?
It was. I believe the studio just used an effect on his voice.
Strange how Michael never mentioned this though.
28:40 - the question about how they filmed the shot across the street. They clearly used a dummy phone box; the real phone has square corners while the dummy for the shot with Hasslehoff’s face has rounded sides.
40:58 the guy who played Dr. Albert was the one who played the security officer in Big Iron
Noticed that too
on the Title Card there's Two GMC tractor's almost twins ;)
also at the Convention shot at 37:28, the Semi's ramp is down but not extended
Absolutely fantastic locationing and thanks for sharing the blueprints. A great episode with a great commentary!
You overlook one thing in the last part of the episode when you're switching between the left hand blind drive car and the right hand blind drive car the right hand blind drive car does not have the driver's side T top on
excellent commentary thank you awesome blueprints and footage from jack
36:00 I always wondered about that line that David was saying as well. Just never made sense. I just chalked it up to maybe a scene that got cut out.
would be nice to get framed copies of those pics in the bad guys rolling command bus, wonder where i could find those?
Thanks for all
You can see some of the framework inside the trailer for figuring out how the ramp operated. Just an FYI for restoring the trailer
That was amazing thank you for your time, I never watched the series originally but you make it interesting!!
At 41:55 those " can lights" at the end of the shelf could be camera used for some shots?? Has wires like a CCTV camera
2:10 - Stock Season 1 or 2 Semi footage, note the lack of sleeper.
Got to love all the nuggets of knowledge. Also, L.A 36 years ago... As a French fan of 80s American TV shows, I somehow know more about this city than about my own living city here. Pop culture is a crazy thing. 😜
I wonder if the restaurant being named Alice's was a reference to the song "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie.
Awesome 👍👍👍👍 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
8:22 "But Alice's Restaurant was never the name of the restaurant , that's just what we called it...." ~Arlo Guthrie,

Thank you for sharing this Episode brother you have a great day today
they shot at Industry Hills a lot back in the day, too! as I've told you several times the past year or two, I live literally up the street from there (off Azusa, too). but, Caddyshack was also shot there, as well as Back to School. then if you go down the street just a few blocks, you might catch a glimpse of a Delorean crazily driving in the parking lot at the mall!
again, this is a time that I didn't know they shot KR so close to home again. I'm beginning to think that there is a conspiracy not to cast me in anything cool!!! haha
Curious to know if that Crown mobile post office and RC's bike are still around somewhere? Wonder if they could be located?
A good zoom in on 6:15, possibly might answer questions on the real interior for the trailer
Thank you for sharing very good episode watching from South Africa
This is one my favorites as well!
HI I am currently watching Knight Rider Here in the UK, its being re shown on A Television Channel called Legend , its so cool thanks

Wouldn't KITT notice that Bonnie was an imposter? It's just like the scene in Slammin' Sammy where Mario tries to sabotage KITT. You'd think KITT would have known it was Mario under him.
