These four songs that were captured on film, would later go on to be some of the most rare and priceless footage of Ozzy, Randy, Rudy, and Tommy playing live!👌
good research on this famous show, which sadly is really one of the few live videos of Randy Rhoads playing live. Good call out on Lindsey Bridgewater, who did a great job on that tour nor overplaying like DOn did on the Diary tour trying to play to Randy's guitar riffs. This was an early a.m. show by all accounts except Marty's.
Randy’s tone when Mr Crowley comes in… That first chord.. Is the heaviest meanest thing I’ve ever heard.. It probably has something to do w the sound being a lil warbly or whatever but Holy Fucking Shit..
This is right before they played 2 shows on may 2 1981 with MOTÖRHEAD at the New York Palladium due to scheduling conflicts they played an 8 and 11 o’clock show on may 2!!!Motorhead kicked some serious Ass!!!!
I never actually pictured Rudy Sarzo in a recording studio, because Ozzy had to keep bringing Bob Daisley back to write songs, handle the lyrics & play the Bass on Ozzy’s studio albums.
I heard Rudy play at a trade show for some junk guitar maker (sawtooth lol). It was unlistenable. No timing, structure, or melody. It was the worst thing I've ever heard, it was really undescribably bad. I don't think he can actually play, maybe root notes but that's debatable. His claim to fame was his onstage styling.
After hours is one of the few performances where Randy's tone with his guitars and amps is pure and unadultered. In every live instance, he often used a heavy chorus effect added to his playing. It's the only thing I don't like about his sound. You can hear it a little here and there like in Mr. Crowley on that show but it's largely removed at the soundboard level. A fully remastered, cleaned up version visual and audio would be amazing to own! Every other live audio has been adultered with EQing after the fact and altering his sound significantly. The Tribute album is a prime example. Listen to the guitar on that and truly compare to After hours and they sound completely different. The After hours performance is my go-to for true Rhoads sound.
It is basically impossible to do a much better version that what we have. As the source materials are limited. It was a small TV News level equipment and tape that were used.
@@12SharpShooter What was his warm up amp? Never knew he even had one. Secondly, I have the MXR RR Distortion Plus. I also happen to have an Altec Lansing Speaker in a Marshall amp. It sounds exactly like the After hours performance. Pretty much exact. I still stand by what I said originally....After Hours is the truest live example of his base sound.
Rachel Youngblood made all the clothing the band wore when they were performing. She worked for the Arden family for year's before signing on with Sharon to support Ozzy's solo career. Unfortunately she was killed in the same plane crash that took Randy Rhode's life.
What amp was Randy's sound coming out of? If you'll notice, his Marshall's power switches are not lit. It was rumored that he had actually played through a Fender combo, & the Marshall's were just staged.
The Marshall stacks were likely just staged and the amp he was going through was behind the scenes where it could be easily accessed by a tech. With that being said, I would say that it was another Marshall that was actually being played. It certainly doesn't sound like a Fender.
I've known a couple serious drinkers who drank mouthwash for the alcohol content. It wouldn't get rid of the shaky hands and didn't smell like booze, more clandestine. Gotta be absolutely BRUTAL on your liver, but it's that or withdrawal I suppose and that ain't no picnic. One of the few withdrawals that is potentially fatal.
So I guess I’m the ONLY ONE that’s slightly annoyed every time I watch the after hours thing cause the audio and video are out of synch… But now that I see who did the synching I TOTALLY understand lol.. For real NO ONE else notices this !????? Randy’s fingers are like a half second off of what he’s actually playing and it drives me crazy…
I do agree, just have to remember two things. These guys didn't shoot concerts. And that the sound was damaging the camera's tubes. So, they had to cut around with what was undamaged.
At the same time, I’m sure nobody was thinking this had to be some great archival footage either. There’d be more opportunities, right? Nobody thought Randy would be gone within a year or two. Plus, the technology wasn’t great back then with videotape, it was better than nothing but it kind of sucked compared to what we have now with sound and resolution.

Rudy is a good storyteller and remembers everything well.
I've seen this over the years, and it is ((priceless))!? April 28 1981 (my 14th birthday) this is always a treasure
Thankfully this happened. Ozzy was very lucky to find Randy.
I have a VHS tape of the performance that I bought at a flea market back in the 80s. Pre "Sharon doctoring".

I watched after hours Tv show that night as a teenager Byron NY ! Thank god we have this footage of Randy's greatness!
@@ronyantz7349 how was the sound of the program that night?
@@EdwardBaggettEdtrader like the video on youtube ! It was along time ago watched it on an old color tv with a 6x9 speaker i believe.
@ronyantz7349 ok good, i just always wondered if there was any degradation from the OG audio of the night. Sounds like the quality is still on par.
Why did they avoid shooting RR in that video too, like during his solos? Sharon probably told them not to shoot RR. Sharon is the English Yoko Ono
She is worse. Yoko was a peaceful soul. Sharon is a money obsessed witch
Because in Sharon's mind, Ozzy is the star. She needs a reality check.

This was recorded 10 minutes from my house in Ogden! Right off Manitou Road!
That studio still there?
@@EdwardBaggettEdtrader I believe the building is still there but not sure if it is still used as a studio.

I’d say this is dubbed through his warm up amp if you’ve heard that it sounds similar to the tone in this

Always complete with Rudy on bass.
Really sad that this is the only pro shot video. Know there is more but, it will never be released.
Marty was the dubious editor who cut away from 2/3rds of Randy’s guitar solos. Shame! 🤦♂️
I gotta say I think after hours is over dubbed which explains the cut aways, they do this in order to match up the dubbed audio to the live footage.
It wasn't dubbed originally. Tapes of the original broadcast do exist and you can tell the difference.

I've known folks do the same with gasoline.
The band had no Audience besides the few folks in the room. This band when captured should have been 10,000 or so attendees.
There are shows of the Blizzard of Ozz with Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley that will never be released

@4:30 randy looks exhausted ready to fall over.
That pic is from the last gig that randy played, he was dead only 12 hours later😢
Yeah, but if you watch it, Randy’s fingers aren’t doing with the Audio is doing. They must’ve done multiple takes, terrible post production.
The OG broadcast did. The later edits by Sharon had things blocked over or edited.
The camera crew and editing sucked
@@RonPro-u1t to be fair, they were a local low budget news studio.
@ to be fair. They should have showed less of Sarzo during Randy’s solo would you agree ?
