    With that speed, if you switch off the autopilot, you can easily find yourself in outer space and you have to risk re-entry 😅.

    • @SweatyFatGuy
      @SweatyFatGuy 7 місяців тому +3

      What makes reentry dangerous is the over 17,000mph velocity required for orbit. If its only going 4000mph, the problem becomes not enough atmosphere for control surfaces to function and the engine to run if it goes too high.
      The X15 went high enough that controls surfaces did nothing. Cool program.
      If something is outside the atmosphere but has no velocity in relation to the earth, and it falls into the atmosphere, it will encounter increasingly more dense air as it drops, but it will not heat up like a capsule or space shuttle coming back from low orbit. It simply falls.
      All the rocks and stuff out there in space are moving, and they are not moving slowly, all the slow stuff was swallowed up in gravity wells of planets and stars long before humans ever existed. Thats why meteors burn up, they are MOOOOOOVIN....

      Speed depends on the altitude - the X-15 flew extremely high, with peaks at the treshold of space. In lower altitudes physics prevent you from flying that fast, denser air means far more friction. A jet still needs oxygen from the atmosphere and is limited in altitude, other than the X-15 which is a pure rocket aircraft which does not need any oxygen from the air

    Great video, too bad it's too early for any real pictures (Yes, that's the darkstar from the movie Top Gun). Also, the stats are a little misleading from lack of context and some reality. Like a previous comment, at 4,000 mph it'll take a bit longer to get to "anywhere in the world" in less than an hour. It assumes the plane is going full speed from the moment it takes off which it can't. I'm sorry, it can't get up to that speed until it reaches high altitude or it will risk melting. The engine is still in development and hopefully it works as advertised.

    The version that will take flight this year has actually already taken flight twice. It is a 2/3 scale version of the SR-72 and it is a single engine mockup. However it's a fully functional aircraft. The production version will have two engines and be quite a bit faster. The two engine version may not fly for another 3 years. Here's an interesting fact Did you know that both the SR-71 and the SR-72 are not black? Can you guess what color they actually are? I'll come back and give you the answer later or I will highlight the person who gets the right answer first. Have a great day.

    Nah more like 200,000 feet. 80,000 feet has been proven to already be a cake walk for the F-15 Streak eagle on February 1, 1975 at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. This was the final record set by the aircraft during a period of eight time-to-climb world records broken between January 16 and February 1, 1975. The Streak Eagle achieved the altitude in 207.8 seconds, beating the Foxbat by 36 seconds.😂😂😂 Streak Eagle", reached an altitude of 98,425 feet
