Notation notes can be found at my Patreon here www.patreon.com/posts/37437104
I should note, I've had a few comments asking why I don't play the harmonics. I do, in the second verse, as I treat them as separate parts. It's pretty obvious to me that on the record it's two different parts and I think shortening the sustain of the arpeggios just to play the harmonics doesn't sound good. So that's why I don't play it but as with everything, play it how you feel.

There is absolutely NOTHING in music today that compares with this. Today's versions of rock and roll are so completely inferior to what we had in the 1980s.

It’s sad, we will never get any new music like this ever again, back in the 80’s and 90’s so many new bands were coming on the scene I never thought I would live to see it all dry up and blow away. It’s down right depressing.

I borrowed Dad's 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass and listened to this album a lot so I put it in the tape deck. I forgot I left the tape in and Dad took the car back for work. He listened to Whitesnake on two commutes (about 3 hours each) he was old school and real fickle about listening to my 80's music. When he returned from his trip he asked me what is this Whitesnake all about? I was like? what?
I said you listened to my Whitesnake tape? He said yes at least a few dozen times
So this gets my award for best album of the 1980s if you could get a man born in 1937 to binge listen to it, it must be awesome.

Dude, you mean Lord Vibrato? :) Hell yeah, he's basically the one who made Whitesnake so huge in the 80s thanks to his stellar work on their self-titled album. And he carried that sound into the phenomenal Blue Murder debut album. "Valley of The Kings" is dope AF to this day, man. I got to see him fronting Thin Lizzy once and he kicked ass.

Back in the day, my future wife and I had a romantic moment in my old Nissan while listening to 90s rock ballads. It was pouring rain, the windows were fogged up, and we were having a blast. Fast forward to now, I played that same song on my computer, and my wife started singing along casually. Our 6-year-old son noticed and said, "Mom likes this song!" I couldn't help but laugh and told him, "If it weren't for this song, you might not even be here!" We're all cracking up!

Nice choice. Sykes is one of the greats, even when he was just ignoring melody to shred as fast as humanly possible. He and Jake E Lee are two of the most under-rated soloists out there. I still think Jake's live version Bark At The Moon is the best solo I've ever heard (maybe even better than Randy's Mr Crowley). If you still do this you should hit a Gary Moore tune. Talk about an under-rated talent.....when he died barely anyone mentioned it. Broke my heart.

I was never big on the Chorus in this song but Sykes's rhythms, arrangement & solo are brilliant & super tasteful. Even the heavier songs on 87 have a classiness to the rhythm playing. It's a British thing. Which is why I love Frampton too.

I think it’s great that you play along with the original phrases recorded on the album but you also add little extra riffs here and there that add a little different flavor to the same song and put a little of your own expression in the song. It’s one thing to be a cookie cutter and just copy the song note for note but it’s more impressive to me (a fellow guitar player over 30 years) to see someone create musical ideas of their own than watch people paint by number or copy cat other people’s ideas!! Great job!!

I listened to multiple versions of Sykes guitar solo on this song. Your tone, the way you step down off some of those chords, and then let those highs wail is spot on. You really capture the emotion of that section well. I knew you'd be the one to kill it.

Ok, how is it possible that I like this version more than the original???

Haha thanks Eduardo! I try to make it that my covers just turn up the guitars more on the original.

@@bwm5150 Oh yeah, I get that. But all the cover videos do that. The guitar tone you get is part of the magic. And the playing. I play guitar and I I know how in rock or metal the guitars can be played hard, loud, aggressive. Here, it's played in such a different way. Almost gently and as an accent to the rest of the band. It's an amazing ensemble effect. I'm enjoying going through your other songs now. (The Martika song made me grab my acoustic and play that haunting chorus.)

Very kind, thanks! I do play lightly, although I use a metal pick too, but I certainly don’t thrash the strings as much as others do.

Dear Whitesnake, You Guys Must Make A Jam Session With This Man, He Really Gave Life To The Notes You Guys Had Played and Now He Not Only Plays Those Notes Precisely and Accurately, But Every Additional Accentuation From Him Makes This Cover Version of Your Song More Alive and Seems To Have Life In It..

I saw an interview a while back where David Coverdale said he originally wrote this song for Tina Turner, and I can't help but think we got robbed a little every time I hear this song. I can absolutely hear Tina singing this.

1987 was definitely my Favourite John Sykes work, like you say that killer sustain and vibrato, just killer! Great job

Definitely hear the difference a Les Paul makes, though. Warmer, thicker sound. And Sykes does all his vibrato with his hands. I'd almost give vital parts of my anatomy to play like this.

Bruh, take this sub and like it. As a fellow guitar player, former cover artist I enjoy all this content. Making me want to re-learn all these songs and maybe pick one band and do a one night only tribute. 😎
