I think people are right to assume Luke does what is most entertaining rather than simply trying to win (bless him❤️) but I also think people in the comments may be underestimating how bad he is at gtao 😂 Ellen we know has way more hours in the game and generally seems to know her way around way better.
Luke: "Every time I play this game, my mistake is thinking I'd be able to find a vehicle." Also Luke: Gloats and drives circles around Ellen's corpse, giving her time to kill him, take his bike, AND WIN CHRISTMAS!
Luke plays it with entertainment in mind. Could be boring to watch if they are far from each other, hence him waiting around. Ellen plays it with winning in mind. She just rides off when she's in the lead, so all the fun content is with Luke's shenanigans up until they're close to each other again.
Oxboxtra can make almost any content they put out entertaining with their delightful personalities alone. Oxbox’s Christmas challenge today involved them uneventfully sailing through the ocean, and their banter still made the video fun to watch. While I appreciate the shenanigans in most other videos, Luke throwing the race dampens the larger spirit of competition here.
I need Luke to know that his interpretation of the challenge as “being on the mountain top with a bike” was genius and way funnier than a conventional race. I was really hoping for another side by side race this year and the results were great 😂
Luke's attempt at racing in GTA is basically like a contestant coming up with their own interpretation of a task on Taskmaster and still getting hoisted by their own petard.
Luke, you know that in a race you're meant to start at the beginning, then head in the most direct route possible to reach the end before your opponent? It's just that... well... *gestures around at burnt out cars, heavily armed cultists and ALL the police*
Incredible! Every year in the GTA challenge, Luke always has to take the most chaotic route 😆 If he had quietly gone on the bike when Ellen didn't have one, he would have won BUT...that is not the Westaway style. He had to put a bait and a mine like a Looney Tunes...
So first Luke waits around for Ellen to kill him instead of racing to the mountain, then he tries to find a car by going further away from the goal instead of hoping to run into one while going towards the goal, and then he thinks the road leading only to the hideout of a murder cult would be full of traffic. I'm not surprised he lost
Luke: how about we amend this challenge to something that will suit me much better Also Luke: spends half the challenge running around a different mountain attacking cultists in the vain hope they have a car he can steal Also also Luke: this is entirely due to GTA Online being a poorly designed game. Well done Ellen!
Luke: "I need to win this challenge!" Also Luke: rides the exact opposite way I mean, if you wanted to find a car then you should have gone towards the road, not further up the mountain!!
It is always Luke's puckish antics that cost him these things. Proximity mining a bike was hilarious, but it was precious minutes that could have been spent leaving Ellen in the dust. I love both of these two. I'm sad that this was so frustrating for Luke. Merry Christmas to all of you
So will they go up Chiliad by mistake this time and complete the cycle? Let's find out. *spoilers* Ellen : Rides to the top of the mountain, wins. Luke : Tries to kill her, fails. Tries to blow up her bike, little success. Decides the pattern of self-sabotage that is a thread of all of these GTAO challenges isn't a lesson he's going to learn. Loses by a week.
Why do I always find GTA the MOST entertaining of all the Christmas challenges? I would happily watch these two faff about FOR HOURS in this game! I think the ones where they’re both trying to kill each other, Deathloop is another example, are such fun. I would also adore a standard Minecraft Let’s Play from them but that’s just me.
At the end of this video I started having flashbacks to tens of Luke and Ellen clones floating face down in the mix of blood, oil, and water that was the Xmas Tide of Carnage. You can count on every GTA Online Race to run thusly: Luke has an "innovative" strategy that immediately backfires, the next 10 mins are Luke complaining he can't find a car while Ellen just does the challenge normal and wins, and then the last 2 minutes is Luke killing Ellen in frustration before they just start killing each other over and over. It's Xmas tradition at this point.
I dunno I used to be one of the believers that Luke was just bad, But this one felt like pure content pandering this time and just frustrating. He's proven a few times like with his dark souls series that he is actually a good strategist with games so it's getting a bit far fetched that he's naturally this useless
@@shzze Welll... look at Luke's character level. (he gets up to 3 by killing Ellen repeatedly.) He only plays GTA during Christmas challenges. He basically doesn't know how to play the game. It's kind of like his one attempt at Hitman. He didn't know basic mechanics and messed up bad by doing dumb stuff. If he knew how to play the game, I'd say that maybe it was intentional.
@@shzze I think it would be pretty boring if they just straight up raced each other tbh… I think it’s a pretty good mix of Ellen’s serious but sometimes kinda boring competitiveness and Luke’s entertaining but sometimes frustrating ability to get bored seconds into the challenge and just do crazy shit I don’t think the challenges are meant to be taken this seriously
@@skiddadleskidoodle4094 I agree that they aren't to be taken that seriously, but there are a lot of better ways to make the races interesting. For example requiring them to use a set amount of different vehicles. Not just the plain old "oh my, what bad decisions I make, whoopsie...".
Lmao the moment Luke asked to go up the stairs to start the race in, I knew he would focus on everything else except actually racing to the finish line 🤣
For me there is nothing more Christmassy than seeing an already doomed Luke desperately drive a sports car across a perilous ridge in one final attempt to make it to Ellen
Luke’s ability to overthink a plan and wildly overcomplicate a straightforward objective and as a result cause utter chaos that only gets in the way of his own ability to win is proof that there is more of Luke in Dob than just being the tall friend who makes good music. XD
Listening to the constant button presses reminds me how much I LOVED the turbo button on those old NES and Genesis controllers. Saved so much wear on the fingers!
If Luke would've either called his mechanic, or actually gone through the tunnel, a car would've been found much quicker. Ellen putting a proximity mine on the narrow path Luke was driving up would've been hilarious.

Luke could so have so easily won this. once he got away from Ellen after killing her, all he needed to do was book it to the end, but luke wouldn't be luke if he didn't mess around until he lost sight of the original goal.
Luke prioritize content rather than winning. Hence why waiting around. It wouldn't be that fun of a video if they're both off on their own, far from each other. Like when Ellen rides off when she got the bike, the fun content was only with Luke and his shenanigans up until they meet each other again.
Imagine expecting cars to be on the hiking/biking trail of a mountain instead of at the base of the mountain. Never grow up, Luke, we love you as you are!
This race is basically just the tortoise and the hare, with Luke obviously being the hare. He was already ahead and winning, but he just had to taunt Ellen until she killed him and stole the victory from her XD

I felt more frustration then I care to admit when I was watching Luke ride AWAY from where he needed to go trying to find a car, instead of going towards the mountain and looking for a car in the meantime
Luke telling Ellen she’s won Christmas while the footage in the video can only be described as automobile acrobatics was truly beautiful chaos. Well done Ellen on the win!
I love that Ellen was cycling past cars on her route. Luke decides to turn away from Mount Fake Chilliad to look for a car. When all he needed to do was cycle the route and steal a car en route.
Congrats on the win this year, Ellen!!!! Wonder what the Pikachu Drawing challenge this year was. Can't want to find out and see if Ellen will have beaten Luke by 3 points. JK. We all know Luke will have won the Pikachu Drawing Challenge
Luke: Why does this happen nearly every year?! Me: Maaaybe because when you get ahead you dick around until Ellen catches up, and when Ellen is ahead she just goes for the win.
Naw, I applaud Luke’s strategy here, made for a fun video. Really spiced thing up! But it did ensure all the action would be in that initial conflict segment. Maybe he should have run down the mountain in a car and gone full out looking for a chopper?
I mean, you joked that these videos are completely separate, but this really is a whole new plane of chaos you opened up here. It's fantastic, it's brilliant, please never change.
Luke's plan - instead of just riding bicycles, drive up the mountain, kill Ellen, steal her bike, and claim the victory. Luke's actions - engage in a short, repeatedly-fatal shootout with Ellen, blow up all available vehicles, run around looking for one, eventually getting himself a car, by which point Ellen had already won. Ellen, this was both a moral victory AND an actual victory. From the moment you rode off in the lead as he fiddled with his weapons, it was clear who the winner would be. Side note, would absolutely watch hours of you two just hunting each other down. Oh, and more video game stuff would be fun, too. Let Luke have his pikachu, you ARE the queen of xmas!! 👑🎄
And this proves that biking your way to the finish line is better than using all that energy to bring your opponent down. But hey, at least Luke had that "the adventure of the journey is better than the destination" down to pat. Look at all that he's accomplished before he lost that point, lol. My congratulations to Ellen for both winning the challenge and the overall series. 🎉🎉🎉
That was a sweet car kill. I do feel that since Ellen's already won and the next challenge doesn't really matter, they just need to never mind drawing a challenge out of the hat and make the last one a draw pikachu challenge. It's really tradition at this point.
This challenge is fun every year imo... despite luke clearly not bothering to try and win :D his spectacular failures to execute plans that were flawed from the beginning is endlessly more entertaining than ellen and him just cycling from place to place potentially without seeing each other more than twice at the start and finish line And in lukes defense... had he decided to walk on that road a few minutes earlier he would've caught up with ellen, missed her, yeeted himself off the mountain and lost anyway XD
Luke, you might have had a better shot if you'd started RACING rather than trying to kill Ellen right out of the gate. XD Forward momentum is a good thing! Ah well -- hopefully you can salvage your pride in the final challenge.
Luke finding the 9F could’ve been a real threat if he’d gotten it earlier on. Little did he know that is probably the best car spawn you can get from the traffic for the situation
Luke's ability to do everything but the race is incredible.
I feel like Luke is his own worst enemy whenever he does these GTA races
Luke throwing the GTA Christmas race is as much tradition as Ellen losing the Pikachu challenge at this point so I guess it’s even.
Luke choosing entertainment value (and violence) over competitiveness. Sometimes actually makes it less entertaining, but this was pretty good IMO.
Last year, I thought he was throwing the race so the challenge would go the full seven days... But this year... bless his heart.
I think people are right to assume Luke does what is most entertaining rather than simply trying to win (bless him❤️) but I also think people in the comments may be underestimating how bad he is at gtao 😂 Ellen we know has way more hours in the game and generally seems to know her way around way better.
He throws them so obviously away every year. It's not even fun to watch, you just scroll through it to see if its different from last year. It isn't.
Luke: "Every time I play this game, my mistake is thinking I'd be able to find a vehicle."
Also Luke: Gloats and drives circles around Ellen's corpse, giving her time to kill him, take his bike, AND WIN CHRISTMAS!
Also thinks he's gonna magically find a bunch of vehicles up in the mountains where they rarely rarely ever spawn there.
"Why does this happen every year?"
Because you make such spectacularly awful decisions in this game, Luke.
in his defense, GTA enables, if not outright encourages spectacularly awful decisions
Luke: Gets a huge advantage by being out of Line of Sight of Ellen on a bike.
Also Luke: stands and bloody waits for Ellen.
I'm having trouble deciding whether to laugh or slam my head in frustration
And continues to do so after taking two sniper shots in the chest and barely making it out alive
@@ChaosDeary I've come to the conclusion that Luke hates winning.

This is like an episode of Wacky Races, with Luke playing the Dick Dastardly role of "would've won if he didn't stop to antagonise the opposition".
Luke also stopped to antagonize random bystanders.
Can we get a tally of how many times Luke has complained that there aren't any cars on the bloody hiking trail.
runs into the woods instead of towards the highway, "why are there no bloody cars!"
Luke: *Practically defeats himself* "STUPID GAME!"
Luke's complete inability to learn "don't start things with the cops" is endlessly funny.
He didn't even have a wanted level when the cops showed up. They weren't after him until he gifted them a grenade round.
Luke: I gotta win this to stay in, gonna kill Ellen and get an advantage.
Also Luke: Forget this challenge I'm just gonna play GTA online.
Luke: "I gotta take drastic measures"

I mean it was drastic.
@@callumdonington2227 that looks more like desperate than drastic, now, doesn't it?
