- Can we hit 500 likes for episode 1 of this new Football Manager 2019 series with a new format?
For a long time people have asked me to do a live FM19 lets play on UA-cam so here it is. Expect lots of rambling, tactical chat and terrible pronunciations as we take over Lyon in Ligue 1.
Each of these episodes will be more of a podcast kind of deal, answering viewer questions and comments whilst hopefully giving you an insight into decisions and actions I take in FM that I wouldn't normally show in videos.
I wouldn't consider this a tutorial series by any means, some episodes will be super focused on a single thing like today whilst others will involve us mashing the space bar and playing 3 or 4 matches.
Hopefully you enjoy and pick up a thing or two regardless!

Still the best FM series to this day. No editing just casual FM playthrough with good commentary. Going to rewatch this whole series for like the fourth time since it came out 6 years ago ❤

Second time watching this series. It's just so charming and I always get a sense of fulfillment with the progress as if it's my own save.
Really enjoy when youtubers go through the tactics phase, think this is a fantastic video idea and a very good first episode Jack! Fantastic team chosen as well, although I think I voted for AC Milan, Lyon seems to be a fantastic choice either way and the thumbnails are top quality.

Lyon really are a team that are ready built to dominate with the right tactic, and by dominate I mean for a good 5 to 10 years in France. Their squad is so full of top young talent and they have a decent transfer budget. I had Aouar on loan at Fiorentina, ridiculous player. Looking forward to see if you step away from the 4-2-3-1 that the team is set up for naturally. :)
This series sounds like a FANTASTIC idea...i like to see your thought process on more topics. Also, I must highly recommend signing Ryan Gravenberch (you mention signing him in a different save, so you know who he is), he's a steal in the first season and develops incredibly well even without starting in the first team right away as he's so young. The only negative is his tackling but his playmaking ability and the player he becomes makes up for it completely.
Hey Jack - I'm currently on my 6th season with Lyon and have been enjoying them immensely. After my first season - I decided to sell the "Fab Four" of Cornet, Dembele, Depay, and Fekir for almost £200m. Some players that I found for cheap who turned out to be good/great players for my side - I either sold these players for profit in the future or they're still on my team playing:
Yann-Aurel Bisseck: £5m; strong center back option - has 20 jumping reach currently at 23yo. Squad player for me right now.
Pelayo Morilla: £1.3m; decent rotation option in midfield.
Lovro Majer: £7.5m; technically great, five player traits; hasn't been as useful to me as I've played through. Will likely get a solid profit from him.
Ferran Torres: £2.8m; solid squad player on the right wing, sold him for £50m to Barcelona after 5 seasons.
The BEST option I could give you though is Gonzalo Maroni. I don't see anyone really talking about this guy. I signed him for £10m only two seasons ago (2021/22) - he's now valued at £72m and is a key player in my side.
With Lyon, try and get some success quick if you can. Top European clubs start swarming your best prospects quite early on - due to the stature of Lyon being lower than most "top" clubs, not a lot of players will want to stay.
Anime Gouiri is a fantastic striker when he is developed fully, Aouar is a similar story. Dubois is also a solid rotation option who I found performs really well in my system (7.25+ avg rating every season in the league) - he has played better each year actually.

Sign Antonio Marin he only costs 2.5 million and is already a tank at 18 years old. He can also be developed and if you play him as a left inside forward and use the right custom tactics on him he is magical.

I have to agree, he used to be a legend for me while I was a coach at Lyon, he should use Amine Gouiri as well, won like 5 golden balls and scored around 40-50 goals every season

Check out your youth team. You have some insane youngster like Maxence Caqueret. Gouiri becomes a monster aswell. And dont forget fekir s contract ends in 2020
Lyon are my go to club every year, such good young players every game. Haven’t played this years as haven’t got enough time but if you do it right in a couple of years you can turn this young squad into a bunch of world beaters! Unless the last game has changed loads that is. Really good idea on the series though jack. Be good to see everything that people overlook that they may see the importance!
Always trying to finish above PSG can work out to be good fun as they’re backed by constant money but you’ve got a great Academy at Lyon it’s kind of the battle of money verses youth.

I've just started a game with OL as well because I'd really like to follow your series and compare my team and yours. In the first transfer window I've signed De Ligt and Antonio Marin and I sold Rafael and Yanga-Mbiwa. Let's see how it goes and thank you for your series.
I just finished 2 seasons with Lyon on my journeyman save. Was probably the most fun club for me to manage in FM19. Played a possesion based 4-2-3-1 as well, won the Europa League in my first season and Ligue 1 in the second, then got an offer from Liverpool.

I'm in my first year with OL and am currently top of the league without any game lost. And also advanced through knockout stages of CL in a group with Man U, Real Madrid & Inter. I have signed Jordan Veretout, Antonio Marin, Ayrton Lucas, Sebastian Szymanski and Mangala on loan. This team is Boss.

I like the way Genesio plays a 4-2-1-3, Fekir as the '1'; he has also utilised a back three this season: a 3-4-2-1 with Fekir as one of the '2' ...
Jack you need an extra playmaker here. I would consider dropping Dembele, putting your IFs on the attack duty while training Fekir to play F9. As for playmakers it depends on what you want them to do: I would use a Roaming Playmaker or an AP on attack who can pass but also get in the hole and be an extra option in attack. I would look at Roma's Pellegrini because his release clause is relatively affordable
This looks like it’ll be a great series. I wanna start FM (2020) when I go to uni later this year and definitely need the tutorial side of it . Could you explain the downloadable content a bit more?

You should sign a center back, Wallace (Lazio) would be a quality purchase
Can you tell how i can use the packs for face players, stadiums etc... this things is in the Football Manager 2019 or is like updates???

In your 7 at the back tactic, I would have aour on carrilero instead of box to box, I think that would best suit his skill set

players do actually play worse in positions with lesser experience (not full circle)
I'm not denying that simply saying not to overvalue the role familiarity and position familiarity importance
Seems all you really need is a good CB
Also Tousart is one of my favorite players this year, I even got him to score 20 goals in a season(probably 75% of them were long shots)
I like Lyon but man you need to challenge yourself. Leverkusen? Larne? Now Lyon?
I’d sell the players as soon as they start moaning about leaving to go to a bigger club as well. (It will happen)
